This beer is straight-up black. It pours like roof tar, coating the glass, leaving a dark brown head of varied consistency. It’s dense. I’m surprised the surface tension of this liquid allowed it to penetrate wood grain. Maybe that’s why it had to spend time in 3 different barrels. It tastes like the brandy barrel was the most willing to let this beer in, as it dominates both the nose and the flavor. I have a heightened sensitivity to brandy/apple brandy aged beers (one of my many awesome skills), and it just blitzed this entire beer. The coffee used is pretty much lost, and only shows up as the beer warms as a rich, bitter dark chocolate finish. Good beer, but could have been epic if the brandy was left out.
