Notes: After working out some of the kinks from the first edition, this year's Medianoche Reserve has been fine-tuned to showcase the perfect marriage of barrel-aging, adjuncts, and most importantly...quality. The result is one of our finest barrel-aged expressions to date.

Medianoche Reserve is a blend of Imperial Stouts aged in 8-9 year Bourbon barrels for 21 months, then aged with toasted coconut flakes, raw coconut chips, Ugandan vanilla beans, Belizean roasted cacao nibs from Cultura Craft Chocolate, and Ghanan roasted cacao nibs and husks from Nuance Chocolate, each selected to complement the natural flavors imparted by the barrels.

My 600th rating! Cheers to 6000 more!

Pours a super thick, viscous black with a very small, dark brown head that dissipates quickly. Good alcohol legs when swirled. A small amount of coconut floaties are present.

The aroma explodes out of the glass with huge German chocolate cake notes! Rich dark chocolate, bitter baker's chocolate, sweet coconut, and a touch of vanilla and sweet bourbon as well. Hints of almonds and tobacco. So incredibly well rounded and balanced!

The flavor is similar, but even more of a chocolate bomb! Crazy rich dark chocolate notes, followed by bitter baker's chocolate that balances the sweetness. Fudge milk chocolate with light hints of coconut near the back end. The finish is long, as your mouth is coated with layers of chocolate. As it warms very light hints vanilla and bourbon heat add to the finish.

The mouth feel is viscous, smooth and creamy, and super palate coating, with a quite dry finish. There's just a touch of bourbon heat.

What a delectable barrel aged adjunct stout! There is such a lack of balance in so many stouts these days, and this is the complete opposite! It is amazingly balanced between sweet, bitter, and dry! A masterpiece of a beer!

500 mL bottle. Pours inky black. Very viscous. Smells of coconut, booze, bourbon, vanilla, and chocolate. Tastes of coconut, bourbon, lots of fudgy chocolate, booze. Heavy, sweet, delicious. This does coconut very well. Wonderful.

500ml bottle. I’m struck by the viscosity, both in A&M. Medium cacao and chocolate fudge. Slight barrel but mostly sweet chocolate and sugar, a depth charge of vanilla. The coconut is milder than Starry Noche, adds more sweetness than toasted flavor. Full bodied, low carb.
