Appearance- The beer was a murky red color with white bubbles.

Smell - The sour notes were downright pungent but you really get cherries.

Taste - There was a very tart and vinegary cherry presence. The cherry seems to become richer within the taste. As it wears on, it almost seems like cherry pie filling. The tartness is rich and refreshing.

Mouthfeel - One might not expect this style to be so thick. Yet it coats the tongue nicely.

Overall - This is a fantastic beer.

Consumption took place at La Fine Mousse in Paris, France. Very solid Kriek from Cantillon - red like the blood from a reindeer. Great balance of tart cherries and funk with perfect carbonation. Definitely recommend.

Vibrant ruby red with a soft pink blanket.

Fresh cherries all over the nose, with peppercorn and a little funky drainage pipe full of rotting leaves.

Taste is cinnamon and tons of fresh cherries. I even get a little rounding pie crust that cuts the tart and sweet elements. Whoa--Jester King really hit a very similar profile to this...I guess they should be very flattered by that since Cantillon is a huge inspiration for them.

This has a warming, almost thick feel--warming as in comforting and soothing, not hot like booze. It smooths the sourness keeping this in a safely tart territory.

Huge sour fan -- belle vue and mort subite sweetened Krieks were my gateway drugs.

This year alone I have been lucky enough to get my mitts on some Cascade Kriek 2015 and Boon oud Kriek and they were flat out amazing. Also, my local beer church, indie ale house, does some world class sours that helps lessen the sting of stupid LCBO stocking like six bottles of anything good across the whole of Ontario.

But I digress-- onto this bad boy. I have dreamed of trying this for eons -- So when the opportunity arose I did back flips.

Wasn't disappointed.

Pretty much perfect -- EXCEPT -- a bit over carbonated and it must be said -- the boon oud Kriek, with its stone fruit taste component, might be a hair better.

Tart, just enough Brett funk, a big ol blast of lacto acidity (which I lurve). And a balanced cherry attack. Fantastic.
