Raw sour power. Beautiful wine colour. Leaving it open as recommended for 30 minutes is a good idea, but how patient can you be? Musty barnyard and cherry aroma. A bit of carbonation. There's orange,cheese aftertaste. Astringent bone dry. Be forewarned about the tartness.

Thanks to jmgrub for sharing this one at mrbubbler's "end of the world" tasting.

2011 vintage.

Pours a murky light red with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour, tart, and funky with malt, sour cherry, and earthy aromas. Taste is much the same with a nice acidic sourness on the finish. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a very crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is quite tasty and easy to drink.

i have no idea if the ratings will reflect this or not, but while i was drinking this, i kept thinking its as good as the lou pepe edition. does it need twice the fruit or another year? i dont think so at all. this is a candy apple red pour, maybe a touch pinker, but really blood stained red, clear though, and with about a half inch of just tainted pink white head. it smells like candied cherries, not really fresh fruit, but not due to artificial sugar or anything, it think its more a product of the lambic base, which is tart as hell, a lot like the classic gueuze really, farmy and funked to high heaven, with a subtle barrel profile. good acidity on the palate, not overdone in the slightest, with the cherry getting more and more intense as the beer warms. wishing for nothing, i find this supremely delicious, and while it may not be as complex or as natural cherry flavored as the lou pepe version, i find it cleaner, equally tasty, and a little more blonde sour basey than its big brother. carbonation is on point, uncommon is real lambic, and frankly just freaking awesome. i find myself drinking it way too fast, but thats just the sign of killer beer. not the best ive had from cantillon, but on par in terms of quality with any of them.

A: The beer is clear red in color and poured with a finger high pink head that slowly died down but never completely faded away.
S: There is a light to moderate amount of sour aromas in the nose.
T: The beer is very acidic and sour and has notes of cherries in the flavors. There is a very strong sour aftertaste.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a low amount of carbonation.
O: Although the beer is very sour, it doesn’t have a funky element in the smell or taste that makes some beers in this style difficult to drink.

Intese but clean sourness with tart cherry flavor resting behind sharp lactic and light must character.

Impressive and inviting, the pour brings about a bright pink (lavender) color with medium cloudiness. A froathy, airy head carries a modest pink hue. Retaining well, the beer's sourness keeps it from lacing as well as it could.

Clean sourness makes the mouth water and the jaws pucker. Under-rippened berries, crabapples, lemons, cider, and mild vinegars come to mind. Cherry aromas are noticable but weave into the other fruity-tart character well.

Sour-tart flavor also lead the way. Cherry flavor makes more of an impact in the overall fruity nature of the beer than it did in the aroma. Still, the lemony-berry-apple notes are well on display. Mild must, raw oak, white vinegar/grape, and light saltiness carry the beer from bright initial taste into the clean lactic finish.

Crisp, tart, and mildly astringent, the cherry flavor leads to a refreshing and palate cleansing evaporation in the finish. Warning: this beer might even remove noticable amounts of enamle from your teeth. Light heartburn might ensue because of the acidity.

A very good cherry flavored lambic with true fruity character and cleanly controlled beer character throghout. This beer makes every sip more and more inviting- highly drinkable aside from sour intensity.

750ml bottle at Beer Bistro in DT TO - my girlfriend wanted to try another cherry Belgian ale...I wanted to have a bit of a laugh, apparently. It is indeed weird to pop the cap of a beer, and hear nothing in the way of a hiss - of course, here, that is due to the cork waiting for me underneath.

This beer pours a cloudy, muddled pinkish amber colour, with two fat fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and eventually soapy and fizzy pale pink head, which leaves a few instances of sea plume lace around the glass as it quickly settles.

It smells of acrid cherry essence, fairly funky yeast - kind of barnyard-like - grainy pale malt, further tart lemon and apple fruit esters, and a bit of dirty, earthy hoppiness. The taste is very, very, very (did I say 'very'?) tart cherry acid, morphing into raw lemon juice territory, some remnant of cherry flesh fruitiness, a bewildered pale wheaty graininess, funky, somewhat yeasty wet cheese, and rather faint, indistinct drying hops.

The mouthfeel, well, to quote a beloved Simpsonian Springfield denizen - "it tastes like burning" - the bubbles do seem to be searing my tongue, but in reality, it's the fruit acids on, well acid, all atop a weirdly sturdy, yet oily medium weight body. It finishes with some lingering deconstructed fruit echoing amidst the tartness and strangely supportive yeasty funk.

A masochistic headfirst dive into beer appreciation, that's for sure. I told my girl not to expect the typical fruit beer sugar bomb - heh, I'm lucky she didn't bomb me over the head with it. I got to finish her share, at least, given that I more or less liked it, as a sort of palate cleanser, or degreaser, solvent, you get the idea. All kidding aside, this is a generally well-wrought kriek lambic, the sourness not for the timid.

75 cl green glass bottle with branded pry-off cap over an internally-housed branded cork purchased at Cantillon earlier today and served into stemware in my hotel room in Brussels. Reviewed live. 5% ABV confirmed. Bottled 24 March 2014. Expectations are quite high given the brewery. "Kriek 100% Lambic Bio." Reviewed as a kriek.

Served chilled and allowed to come to room temperature over the course of consumption. Side-poured.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: Pours a one finger wide head of pink colour. Nice thickness and creaminess. Retention is above average - about 3 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.

BODY: Hazy grapefruit red. Murky yet translucent. Nontransparent. Appears clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

Appears aptly carbonated. Looks good for a kriek overall; I'm craving the first sip. The head and colour could be better but this is solid.

AROMA: The cherry notes aren't as full, evocative, and present as I expected having had Lou Pepe Kriek earlier today, but they're nice, with some interesting tartness and befitting fruity sweetness. The sourness in the aroma is more restrained and tame than I'd like, but it's nice for what it is - seemingly a 5/10 in terms of sourness, but nevertheless redolent of wild lambicus yeast and a bit of bacterial character. The fruit is unmistakable, but not as impressive as it could be.

Lacks a noticeable hop presence, alcohol presence, or off-note aroma - all of which are good things to lack.

It's an inviting aroma of average strength, but I crave more cherry, more sourness, and at least a bit of oak/chestnut wood presence from the barrel. Naturally though, I cannot wait for the first sip. Very pleasant and seemingly refreshing.

TEXTURE: Wonderfully smacky on the palate. Smooth, wet, refreshing. Excellent medium body. Apt thickness. Has an excellent overall presence on the palate and just enough softness to keep it approachable in spite of the assertive sour notes. Not overbearing, heavy, hefty, or too weighty. Perfectly carbonated. This texture is an ideal companion to this taste. Brilliantly executed. Wow.

Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, or rough on the palate.

TASTE: The sour and tart cherry notes are a highlight here, and are just fucking wonderful. The lambicus yeast is perfectly suited to the cherry notes, and evokes a wonderful sourness accompanied by wild bacterial notes. Cherry skin abound. This beer is the dog's bollocks. Flawless balance, brilliant subtlety, great complexity and intricacy, excellent nuance, and superb integration of flavours. This is a gestalt flavour profile with an excellent build. The dominant fruit and sour notes work well together and would please even the most discerning of drinkers.

No overt hop flavours are detectable, nor is any alcohol. I don't find any off notes.

Constructively, more of an oak or chestnut wood presence might help the beer, as might more sourness; as-is, it's about a 6-7/10 in terms of sourness. The lightly palate-stripping acidity is lovely, and complements the flavour profile beautifully.

I'm loving this beer. Execution is excellent.

The subtle fruity sweetness right on the finish closes out the lingering sourness in a lovely way, which makes one crave the next sip.

O: I'll have to have Cantillon's Lou Pepe Kriek again, but I will say this beer is an achievement. It's rare you encounter a beer of this quality, and this one solidifies Cantillon's position as a world-class brewery. I'd absolutely have it again - hell I'd probably pay American prices for it - and I'd definitely put it up there with the best krieks I've ever had. Damn good stuff from Cantillon, and worth all the praise it receives. Wow. I look forward to enjoying the rest of this bottle alone. Perhaps Cantillon's best (relatively) easily available offering. Almost effortlessly drinkable.

Drink fresh. I can't see age making this much better.

12 oz. bottle, dated Sept. 2007, opened and allowed to breathe in the fridge for 20 odd minutes, as instructed by the label.

Served at 50º into a Cantillon glass. Initial finger of pink foam rises, with CO2 clinging to the sides of the glass. Second pour gives an ethereal fizzle and vaporizes on the surface of the red liquid.

Very traditional farmhouse nose, wet hay, old wet wood, musty horse blankets. A lightly acidic, citric lemon tartness cuts through the other aromas.

Tart cherry flavor is almost puckering, but not quite. Seems a little mellow in comparison to some other Cantillon releases. Definitely gets the salivary glands working, it would be a perfect apertif. Certainly quaffable, i'm having a hard time taking sips instead of gulps here. The tart fruit has a brightness to it, that fades into a lightly dry oak aftertaste. Light carbonation, a little vinous or cider-like in body. Overall a standard Kriek to judge others by. The Lou Pepe variety has a little more complexity and depth, but this is a fine Lambic...

I had this on cask at Moeder Lambic Fontinas.

Appearance: Pours a Cloudy red with a layer of pink head that fades to a ring around the glass.

Smell: Natural tart cherries with a mild sweetness. Sour and funky in the background.

Taste: The cherry flavor is so natural, more so than from the bottle. Smooth cherry tartness, not very sweet, tart, bitter, and sour in the finish.

Medium body with mild carbonation and a finish that goes from slick to dry.

Overall: I loved the real cherry flavor. My wife who doesn't like sours ordered one after having mine. So smooth and easy drinking.

Bottle: sampled at the brewery in Brussels. Poured a pink colored beer with great carbonation and a good head. Aroma is a mix between the raspberry and the Cantillon yeast. Taste is a bit deceiving since it is too much acidic that it kills the rest of the flavours, the raspberry are buried under the acidic tones. I believe that some other lambic -fruit a better balanced then this one and offer a better refreshing taste.

A - Poured out a clear pinkish color almost like pink lemonade with a fizzy, bubbly, white, one-finger head.

S - It smelled musty and sour. Definite cherry aroma.

T - It tasted of strong sour cherry and some yeast. It kinda had a lemon-like taste too.

M - It was very dry and puckering. A light bodied beer.

D - This is a pretty good lambic. The mouthfeel was a little odd, too puckering.
