Nath is the result of the maceration of rhubarb in 2 years old lambic, naturally refermented into the bottle.

JANUARY 2024.
75 cl bottle of the 2022 vintage (bottled on 13 June 2022).
It's a two-year-old lambic with added rhubarb, which I also had the pleasure of drinking on tap.
Stored at cellar temperature, quickly refreshed in the fridge to cool the dusty bottle a little more.
Freshly uncorked, smoky, scented with red berries, a light earthy/mouldy note.
Versata has a beautiful golden color, just slightly hazy.
Note a continuous effervescence that rises upwards even after several minutes of pouring into the TeKu.
Already on the nose it made the mouth water: the bouquet of red fruits and berries expands (it reminds me above all of red currants) and a delicate aftertaste of Brettanomyces ("mold"/stale/soggy cork) also emerges.
The foam is obviously minimal and remains weak only on the superficial part.
In the mouth, I find this sour/sweet taste almost of berry/berry, but much less intense and more floral.
This taste evolves into a delicate herbaceous taste, with just a hint of earthiness (but not at all comparable to the Zwanze 2020, which - in my opinion - tasted like fresh earth on which to start planting flowers rather than beetroot).
The taste of rhubarb reminds me a lot of forest berry/radish notes even if it retains a greater delicacy in the taste.
The acid note is delicate and almost blends with the sour sensation that rhubarb gives it.
Imperceptible sophurous note.
Final in which delicate notes of Brettanomyces appear to close a very elegant and refined drink.

Here we are, the last LIF beer that Coronaeus sent me. I’m always excited to try any kind of Cantillon, but the addition of rhubarb in this one really intrigues me. It’s an underutilized fruit in many aspects, nevermind in beer. Let’s pop it open and find out what it’s all about

God that cork was a pain in the ass to get out. Pours a cloudy orange gold with 2 fingers of frothy off white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing

The nose is very funky, I’m suspecting the fruit may have faded after 5 years. I’m picking up on aromas of wildflower honey, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, crabapple, blue cheese, dry oak, wet hay, old leather, and light rhubarb

Things are even lighter in taste surprisingly, especially in the aftertaste. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting apple skin, lemon juice, earthy wheat, wet hay, rhubarb, crackery malt, and light tart cherry. The swallow brings notes of wet hay, lemon juice, jammy apricot, apple skin, old leather, and crackery malt

A light medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes neutral with a gentle funk

This one is probably past its prime, but it’s still damn good. Thanks again Coronaeus!

Drank on tap at Armsby Abbey, Worcester, MA
Served in a stemmed glass

Nearly crystal clear, medium amber appearance. The liquid was topped by a thin, fluffy, bone white cap that fell to a fat, clingy, lasting collar. There was only minimal lacing.

Outstanding aroma. The rhubarb was subtle initially but really made its presence known after some time. Freshly picked rhubarb came to mind. Moderately tart and vegetal but also slightly sweet. An intensely funky, cheesy note was also apparent. Loads of barnyard character too. Some oaky barrel was also detectable.

The flavor profile was very similar to the nose and nearly as impressive. Here, the rhubarb was quite punchy from the get go. Tart and bright with a touch of sweetness. Funky barnyard notes were apparent here as well, though slightly more subtle than in the nose. Somewhat cheesy. Lemon notes appeared in the center. Lots of oaky barrel on the back end and the finish. Pleasantly dry and tannic. More lingering rhubarb, lemon and barrel after the swallow.

Terrific soft, fluffy mouthfeel. Medium bodied for the style. The liquid contained a crisp, sprightly effervescence that gave the beer a light frothiness on the palate.

Nath is a terrific rhubarb-infused lambic and one of the more interesting Cantillons I have yet to try. This beer displayed the perfect balance of fruit, tartness and barnyard funk.

Another selection from Zwanze Day 2021. This might have been my fave of the day.

Pours amber. I thought it would be more of a rhubarb color. Maybe I was getting more of the strawberry from New Glarus when comparing the image of these beers. 1/3" white head. The aroma hits the nice rhubarb note, now I'm remembering that b1 Windowsill beer before it just got too massive in later iterations. The wood is mild behind it.

The taste is quite nice, rhubarb doesn't take on too bitter of a dimension, the acidity is in my wheelhouse, the sourness isn't overstated. There is a light brett like additional kind of fruit feel influence despite this being only rhubarb as I understand it. I thought carbonation was just right for the mouth feel. I really dug this one. I hate to be that guy who doesn't obey the narrative though, but I'm gonna say it. I think New Glarus does something like this that I like even more. I know, it isn't rare/Euro enough for the sissterhipsters, but nobody IRL takes them that seriously.

i had been wanting to try this one forever, so i was stoked to get the chance at zwanze day this year, this is the rhubarb one, itself a former zwanze day beer if i remember right. very mature base beer, more sour than the other ones i had in this session, and not just from the astringent natural rhubarb, the base beer seems older, more bacterial, sharper. this looks brassy colored, more still than the others from the tap, lightly hazy but still with a shine. the nose is natural rhubarb right out of the garden, amazing how similar its acidity seems to be to this lambic, the wood unites them, but i get white wine, under ripe strawberry, watermelon rind, and jasmine flower nuances too, lots happening here to my senses, and it makes my mouth water like crazy, still woody and dry too. so much rhubarb in the taste, and im stoked its all by itself, not fruits or spices or anything, so it comes through as really pure. the sourness is high though and there is that rhubarb almost pithy feeling astringency to this, real ingredients here for sure. white wine, old oak, lots of bretty funk, a white vinegar tang, and some appreciable wheat character keeping it earthy and grounded. better carbonation than it shows in the glass, very light body, tons of texture from the rhubarb on the swallow. great lambic, real mature, cool use of the rhubarb to yield something entirely unique. a pleasure to sip on.
