**REVIEW NUMBER 1,300**
:and:
**BEER ADVOCATE BEER NUMBER 1,956**

Reviewed from notes. 2014 cork dating. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a J. Wakefield OG teku glass.

A: Hazy gold with a big three-finger white head, though this fades fairly quickly. Low visible carbonation after the intial blush diminishes.

S: Dried apricots, tart Lactobacillus funk, oak tannins. Mild vinous character, another punch of funk and light cracker malts.

T: Really follows the nose – lactic acid, tart apricots, and dry oak tannins. Funk is in moderation – feet and barnyard, but not straying into horse blanket or particularly cheesy. Finishes with tartness and dry acidity with lingering apricot to an underripe peachy fruitiness.

M: Light crackly body with sour tingling – almost frothy feeling. Good carbonation sensation. Low alcohol flavors.

O: Good, maybe really good. But honestly I was a little disappointed. For all the hype, I expected something to blow me away and this fell just a little short of that. Perhaps a victim of my own expectations. Very tasty, but you could get almost this experience for a fraction of the cost of entry (Almanac Valley Of The Heart's Delight comes to mind).

How the hell does anybody like this stuff? The only reason I give the look something other than the lowest possible rating is because in the glass it looks like just about any other pale pilsner type beer. There's no way of knowing what foul putrid sewage you're about to put in your mouth. The nose gives you a pretty clear hint but still doesn't quite reveal the truely regrettable thing that's about to happen. Suffice to say, Lambics are not my thing! If this is one of the best then I can only imagine the bad ones border on terrorism in my throat! For those of you who like this stuff, take solice in knowing I won't be clogging up any release lines. You're welcome!

Flavor combines sour and funk to come together in perfect harmony on this one.

Pours a hazy, straw coloration with a tiny, fizzy head. Smell is dominated by sour funk, with some apricot and just a hint of citrus zest coming through as well. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by barnyard funk and hints of apricot and citrus. There's a light estery yeast note and a certain earthy and slightly spicy note to this as well. Finishes very dry and acidic, with only a little sweetness coming through, and another mouth-puckering dose of tartness. Medium body and carbonation. I really didn't feel that this has a very rich, fruity apricot note to it at all, maybe it's the vintage (2017, I believe). The apricot is there, but quite subdued and overshadowed by the strong, funky sourness and citric acidity. This is a very nice lambic without a doubt, but highly overrated in my opinion, as it is neither especially subtle nor complex. Still, probably my favorite by Cantillon, which is in no small part due to the moderate carbonation that isn't as overdone as in many of their other offerings.
