A: light orange/amber color, poured with a pretty solid foamy head

S: cantillon funk but intermixed with bourbon, vanilla, oak up front

T: very unique, bourbon/whiskey on top but not overpowering along earthy notes, vanilla, oak, sour funk.

M: very smooth, light carb. coats the mouth

O: Extremely well done bourbon barrel aged lambic, wasn't sold on this before but now I am, well executed. Though its listed at 5% its got to be higher then that.

Bottle shared by Joel and Solomon 4-25-13. Thanks guys!

Pours a hazy light orange with a very full and frothy head. Aroma of classic Cantillon style funk overpowered by whiskey, a bit of damp wood and earth. Very nice! Starts with a warming hint of whiskey while the lambic serves to sort of open up your tastebuds. Very interesting experience, and similar to the Jean/Uli blend I had recently. Comes across the palate with a strong whiskey and vanilla presence, which adds a lot of complexity to the lambic. Tart, mineral, and slightly alcoholic. 5%? Finishes very light and clean, with some lingering whiskey notes. Mouthfeel is fantastic, medium carbonation, spritzy.

My favorite "spirit barrel" lambic to date. Very nice experience.

Drank at Pikkulintu in July of 2011. Review from notes. Pour is an effervescent gold body with a tight white head. Nose is very dusty and oaky, whiskey barrel plays a great role here. Bright golden fruits and creamy lactic acid notes accompany integrate themselves very nicely. Taste is very similar, the vanilla of the barrel and the lactic acid create a great vanilla creamy character as the barrel is presented very balanced with golden fruit sweetness and a fantastically drinkable body. Great stuff!

Bottle shared by Ryan at Epic Tres...thank you sir!

Pikku pours a mirky golden yellow, monstrous white head, and a thin collar on top. Barrel notes are most forward on the nose with some citrus, bourbon, and funky tartness following. Taste is less barrel, but a good amount of the booze and funky lambic working together. Citrus, oak, and must follow. Really an interesting lambic, and nothing like I've ever had. Bourbon and citrusy funk work well together.

Really cool beer that happens to be pretty damn good! I'd love to have this one again down the road, but I have to find one first. Maybe when I hit Europe? Who knows.

Originally rated on 16.11.2009, draught @ Pikkulintu 8th Anniversary, Helsinki, Finland. A pretty average geuze lambic with hints of whiskey in its aroma and taste.

Re-rated on 16.11.2010. Draught @ Pikkulintu 9th Anniversary, Easy to drink, soft gueuze lambic. Slightly more whisky notes than before, but they are still quite subtle and soft.

Thanks to Ryan for sharing this rarity. Served in Hill Farmstead stemware.

A - Giant white foam settles to a solid cap, thick collar, and no lace. Mostly transparent peach body. Surprised by the copious amount of foam for an unblended lambic.

S - Bourbon, oak, vanilla, and some lambic in the periphery. Very barrel-forward, with some vinous sourness and slightly brackish mineral character in the periphery.

T - The taste has a bit more balance, with vinous lambic flavors managing to compete with the warming spirit, bourbon, and oaky vanilla flavors. Notes of green apple, gypsum, and lemons in the periphery. On the whole, the taste is a tad muted compared to the aroma.

M - Super dry and tannic texture, with spritzy carbonation. Medium-bodied, with some moderate alcohol warmth. I'd agree with the other comments that this must be higher than 5%.

D - A very unique offering, but I think the bourbon is perhaps a tad heavy-handed. Interesting stuff, but not a lambic that I could drink in copious quantities.

Brought this guy to Epic Tres. Yet another bottle I never thought I’d have a chance to try. Thanks a bunch to a very generous trading partner.

A-Poured into my Cantillon tulip, Pikkulinnun pours an incredibly clear light yellow. There was a crazy amount of head on the pour as well, maybe a finger a halfs worth.

S-Bourbon is prominent in the nose, this reminds me a lot of 50N4E actually in terms of the barrel character coming through so much.

T-There is a light tartness intermingled with the bourbon. Jason actually described it pretty well in saying that it kind of reminded him of a scotch.

M-Mouthfeel is a little bland, but there is decent carbonation, very light acidity, and a moderate finish.

O-Impressive beer, I had my reservations but think its another winner from Cantillon. Very thankful to try this guy.

I've not posted my reviews or notes yet but I was at the DC Lambic & Sour Tasting on April 14, 2012 and tasted this one there. Summary: One of my favorites of the day.

Pours a nice rich hazy orange with a slight white head that quickly fades.

Nose is a "wine character" grape with some funk and complexities. The nose is appealing and inviting and has grape, funk, tart and bit earty sweet. Complex and nice.

Mouthfeel is typical Cantillon sour funky with really nice balance for an older beer. I liked it and felt it was inviting.

Flavor profile I really enjoyed. This was one of the bottles I just kept coming back to and actually kept my pour for a long time to see what would happen. It remained well balanced, tart, "white grapey" and appealing. Complex citrus and funk tones; light grape sweet tones and an appealing tart character just kept me wanting more.

This is one of only a few at this epic tasting that I was sufficiently lucky to join that I'd love to have again. This was one of the highlights for me. (I here review it so that it gets a score).

Bottle at the DC Lambic & Sour Tasting on April 14, 2012.

Appearance: Golden apricot-orange, slightly hazy with good carbonation.

Smell: Very earthy and vineous, slightly bitter with a nice funky element. There is a touch of some grape that I couldn't identify fully, potentially chardonnay or something similar, but it adds a mysterious and playful element to the beer that is truly enjoyable.

Taste: Lots of earth and funk, very vineous, a very fresh and young grape that I think is chardonnay.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation and body, decent heft which is nice

Overall: I really enjoyed this one, wish I could try it again. Truly different than most other Cantillon, which makes it worth it and very interesting, one to ponder.

Served in a Cantillon stemmed glass. This beer is SUCH A GOOD TICK! I'd easily pay >800$ for a bottle.

Beer is yellow and clear with a lazy white head of small and medium bubbles, some lacing.

Aroma is grassy and acidic, lactic mostly, oaky funk.

What is the deal with this tick...I mean beer. made for some shitty bar in the middle of the arctic circle where only leggy blonde women and reindeer live? Neat. It is grassy with an odd bitterness, tastes like a cantillon gueuze otherwise and that is to say it tastes good but not as good as if it were a drie fonteinen gueuze made for reindeer and a beach volleyball team of my dreams. Tick tock.

Bottle at the DC Lambic & Sour Tasting on April 14, 2012. Served in a Cantillon wine glass.

Pours a clear golden color with a small head and some sparse lacing on the way down.

The nose brings forward a moderate amount of funk and light acidity behind a pretty good dosing of whiskey and heavy oak. A bit of a heavy touch on the barrel for my liking, though the background is clearly nice and I could get into the concept if there was a bit more balance. Long flavor with moderate acidity and medium funk. Light body with average-to-fizzy carbonation and a dry, slightly tannic finish.

Not my favorite of the lineup, though I think it was just personal preference for less whiskey/oak and more lambic, as others enjoyed this quite a bit more than I did. Still, I can't say I'll complain about finally trying it!
