Style: Lambic - Unblended

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
From the brewery's website: "Although it is a spontaneous fermentation beer, the Iris is very different from the Lambic. The amber colour and the bitter and slightly caramelized taste make it a complex beer."

On tap at Jester King during Zwanze Day. Pours a slightly hazy reddish color with off-white minimal head. Funk, barnyard, light fruits and must on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes with barnyard funk and some light fruits.

2 years old bottle (2014)
It's interesting to see the difference between a lambic and a gueuze, it's like history in a bottle. This one has definitely not the mouthfeel of a gueuze, it's lower in carbonation. The smell and taste are a lot about grass, lemon and flowers with a good hop presence. Almost bitter for the style, It's tart but never sour.

2014 cork date into an Iris glass. Shared with schen9303.

Not too carbonated. Nose is of oak, wet wood, tart lemon rind, hay, and old cheese. Moderately aromatic but the smell is incredible. Flavor is bready. Biscuit, tart lime and lemon, hay, peat and wet wood and cobwebs. Foam in the middle with a touch of band-aid and a light, tart cheesiness. Finishes dry and puckering. Light bodied with low carbonation. Slick and oily on the palate with a bone dry finish that makes you come back for more.

Excellent complexity with the feel to match. This has a ton of potential and it'll only get better with age. Outstanding!
