Style: American Imperial IPA
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%
Availability: Rotating
Notes / Commercial Description:
Always curious to find out what happens when worlds collide, we combined a slice of rustic Americana with a rising star from Down Under. Galaxy hops, grown exclusively in Australia and revered for their clean, bright aromas, lend notes of passion fruit, citrus and peach. Comet, a descendant of a North American original, packs a wildly bitter punch with an invigorating blend of grapefruit, lemon and orange flavors.

Had high hopes on this one because the guy at my LBS gushed about it...why ,I'm not sure.
Pour was the highlight of the beer...a nice light golden hue with a rich, creamy head, the lacing of which are still evident at the final sips of the bomber.
The smell and the flavor are just middle of the road with nothing standing out I get ZERO of the flavors noted below.
Eh, it's a tick and, upon completion of the bomber, a slight buzz, but nothing to write home about.

Indecipherable canned date
Appearance - Pours clear and golden in color with an off-white, two-finger width head that displays good retention before dying down to a thin, broken layer of suds with a thick ring forming around the edge. Good amount of lacing with soapy looking patches, broken lines and small spotting.
Smell - Strong aroma of citrus, sweet stonefruit flesh and mild floral character.
Taste - Not nearly as enticing as the nose leads on; the flavor is much more subdued. Mild citrus and some peachy notes upfront, then a bit of bread, grass and orange pith bitterness develop mid-taste. Faint caramel sweetness near the finish. Aftertaste lingers with a touch of grassy and pithy bitterness.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with soft carbonation. Slick, somewhat velvety texture makes this an easy drinker before a slightly dry finish.
Overall - Good, drinkable IPA that smells better than it tastes, though it goes down quite nicely. While I wouldn't mind having this again, it's something I'd probably pass on in order to try something new.

22 oz bottle poured into tulip glass no bottled date
A: Soapy big bubbled white head that settle to a lacy film. Body has excellent clarity and is a pale Amber in color.
S: Lots of resiny and earthy hops. Lots of like raw vine smell.
T: A light sweet fruit then lots of bitterness earthy and a little peppery hops flavors little to no malt backbone or presence.
M: Medium bodied about right where you would expect from an IPA good carbonation.
O: This beer is just ok, it really doesn't stand out from the oceans of IPAs it isn't offensive either it's just average.

Pucker up! If you want balance in an ipa move along. This is a pretty dank west coast ipa. The hops are very forward and very bitter. There is a little juicy citrus, the bitterness does overpower it though.

Pours an unclear orange, thick foam.
Smell is very citrusy, with Seville oranges at the forefront. Hints of peach and apricot marmalade.
Taste starts off sweet, then the hops and bitterness hits you. Citrus peel, pine, apricot and just a hint of mint. Really balanced.
Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.
I'm a fan of Hop Concept, they are always full of flavor, but always balanced.

Bomber from Inside the Cellar beer club. Aroma is cat piss, grapefruit, lemon, floral, melon. Pours slightly hazy golden with an off-white head with great retention and lace. Taste is highly highly bitter (10/10) with lots of citrus rind, pithy flavors; a bit savory. Virtually no malt sweetness or flavors. Great old school DIPA.

4-13-16 - On tap at the tasting room in San Marcos. Just got a half pint of this one. Bad decision. Light golden color with head just around the edges. Nice cling to the side of the glass. Quick swirl brings back the head. Great hoppy IPA with galaxy and comet flowers. So tasty.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a one finger white head with great retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of mild biscuit and caramel malt, light citrus and dank hops, orange citrus and tropical fruit with a pleasant light spiciness. Flavor is mild sweet caramel malt, citrus and dank hops, orange citrus, mango, hints of light stone fruit, light pine; finishes with citrus rind bitterness then as the flavor fades, an odd toasted bran flavor pops up and then a quite astringent and long lingering rind bitterness. Medium bodied with nice creaminess. An interesting roller coaster of flavors in this one. It starts out smelling and tasting a bit laid back with light unobtrusive malt and light citrus hops with a hint of dankness and pine, then get that odd grain taste that is actually very appealing and ephemeral before finishing very bitter with little herbal flavor to support the bitterness. With the long astringent finish and mild mannered malt, this would ordinarily be a slight miss for me, but I could not stop tasting this one. The initial flavor is nice, if deceptively mild in hop bitterness then the bitterness sneaks up, while other flavors are revealed. The lingering astringent finish is a bit of a flaw, but I really liked this one quite a bit and will look forward to trying it again when it cycles through (as seems to be the pattern for this brewery). I initially wasn't sure why an IPA powerhouse like Port Brewing needed to spin off a hoppy beer brand, but I have to admit I've enjoyed their binary flavor concept and interesting blends of hops.
