Lion StoutLion Stout

Brewed by:
Ceylon / Lion Brewery Limited
Sri Lanka

Style: Foreign / Export Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The dark caramel, large dense headed brew, with its 8.8% alcoholic content, is unique due to its sweet notes of chocolate and coffee interspersed into a foundation of dark roasted barley. Symbolic black to denote leadership, power, focus and strength, is dominant in the labeling as the lion journeys in the twilight unafraid, unbowed and unchallenged.

Consumed May 3rd, 2012 at The Tin Cow, Pensacola, FL from a can. Poured into a pint glass.

Extremely dark brown with a finger-high mocha colored head.

Aroma is a little on the red grape tip with some subtle roasted malts.

Flavor is a mess. Chalky, thin, weird. Red grapes, weak, lightly roasted malts, mineral notes. Low bitterness.

Unremarkable mouthfeel, save for the chalky, chewy bit.

Think I'll take a pass on this one next time I see it.

Huge frothy head, nearly 50% head. Lot's of lacing. Really looks the part of a beautiful stout.

The taste is a bit sweet for me when comparing it to other stouts. Coffee is the predominant flavor and alcohol is the predominant smell.

The price and the ABV of this, while having a very strong drinkability, make this a solid choice. I would certainly drink this beer again.

Poured into a pint glass. Mammoth head. Couldn't fit the whole 11.2oz bottle initially. Black body, light brown head. Great stickage. 4.5

Roasty and malty goodness. Raw grains with some alkali-pressed cocoa. 3.5

Malty and sweet with hefty roast grain presence, dark mocha, subtle booze, and malt bitterness. 4.0

Milky smooth. Medium bubbly. A little heady after many sips. Feels better when it warms. 4.0

Loves me some Lion Stout. Recommended. 4.0
