Style: Foreign / Export Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The dark caramel, large dense headed brew, with its 8.8% alcoholic content, is unique due to its sweet notes of chocolate and coffee interspersed into a foundation of dark roasted barley. Symbolic black to denote leadership, power, focus and strength, is dominant in the labeling as the lion journeys in the twilight unafraid, unbowed and unchallenged.

Served from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Poured almost black with about a two finger brown creamy head.

Smell: Smells of chocolate and roasted malted dominated. Also a slight hint of hops were present.

Taste: Chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. The beer got sweeter as it warmed. There was also a slight hop bitterness that was present.

Mouthfeel: Medium to thick Mouthfeel with the right amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: At 8% ABV I could have a couple of these in a sitting but not a session beer.

This was a good stout and my first brew from the Lion Brewery. I did not know what to except but enjoyed it a lot.

A: Pours a dark black color, no light, only a faint brown twinge to it. Provides a two finger brown head.

S: Lots of burnt and roasted malts. Espresso/coffe and cocoa are the most predominant scents, with some dried fruit.

T: Just like the scents. The cocoa hits up front followed by some very faint dry fruit. The backend provides the coffee. The coffee is the backbone of this beer.

M: A decent about of carbonation, just about the right amount.

D: A really nice Stout. A moderate ABV makes this beer enjoyable.

625 mL bottle

A: Deep black under a large brown head. No lace and very little retention.

S: Smells of sweet malts, light roastedness, chocolate, bit of coffee, slight burnt aroma.

T: Very subtle in taste. Sweet with mild roasted malt in an other wise sweet finish. Bit of chocolate and light coffee. A certain hop and dark fruit character shows up too.

M/D: Full bodied, light carbonation, a little slick. Very good drinkability for a big stout. Pretty tasty.
