Re-Review after the August 13th, 2005 BA SoCal Social.

A recent “all-day” visit here during the latest BA get together seemed like one good reason to Re-Review Naja’s some 2-1/2 years after I first came here.

Since then, a change of ownership (I believe) and some (much needed) physical improvements to the structure, including new cleaner toilets where it is a pleasure to “drop the kids off at the pool”, are just two of the least important of many reasons for adding to my original BeerFly.

Jason the (new) owner has really pulled out all the stops here and transformed what was a good but “lazy” sea-side bar that sometimes had a decent beer range - into a real high quality Beer Bar that happens to be in a prime location. The draft beer range reads like a Who’s-Who of the Craft greats, whilst the Beer Coolers play host to many bottled domestic and international classics. One Angram Beer Engine spreads the Gospel of the Cask – RR Pliny the Elder during the BA Social. Now serves a limited range but damn tasty selection of Bar food that is not for those on an Atkins diet, but who cares. Service is first rate, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and attentive. Stone Brewery Arrogant Bar (at least I think I remember that) but it does always have a Russian River brew on tap…….so come here and get Pliny’d….I did. Excellent.

Sunday Feb. 9th, & the “CA-BA-Banner-Beer-Mobile”, complete with its esteemed & highly experienced ex-Fighter Pilot DavidBanner landed outside of my Apartment, with its thunderous booming muffler screaming “Come on, We have beer to drink”.
Co-Pilot & Navigator StoutLove77 directed the small crew of 3 from the back seat. With only one phone call to Beer Traffic Control, we were parked in the Redondo Beach Car Lot in no time. I acted as Flight Engineer for the journey, which meant I did nothing apart from control the Car Radio Volume until we landed. I was sufficiently awake when we arrived though that I utilized my skills to the maxim, and correctly interpreted the RB Map & Taxied us successfully to our Arrival Gate - Naja’s International Beer Parlor.

Naja’s IBP is right on the front of the International (?) Boardwalk, 2/3rds of it has a completely open frontage; the other 1/3 has an outward facing half open counter, perfect for Boat & Bird Watching.

On arrival, we were only the 3rd customer of the day & we acted like the beer geeks we all are & pointed at the plethora of light faded empty beer bottles displayed behind the bar. The waitress was not impressed by our filibustering as we pontificated about all of the display bottles & draft beers that we had drunk, as we struggled to make up our collective minds about what to have. That was until we spied the Alesmith Pale Ale. Then a smooth talking Limey discussed the options with the nice English–accent loving waitress, suddenly she was our friend & confirmed that she would like to share one of my home-made Curries for breakfast one morning. Oops, I digress. We duly ordered a Pitcher for the Flight crew at only $12 – not too bad. A long row of taps, some 70, including many classics & offerings from Stone, Alesmith, Anderson Valley, many other US, UK, German & Belgium beers – including the mighty Kasteel Beer (Blond) at 11%! As well as the Drafts, there are several coolers full of bottled beers that were not investigated in great detail but contained in excess of some 200+ beers for sure. Shame on us - Damn! We will just have to come back again. From the gleaming drum-kit that was set-up it looks like live music is an integral part of the nightlife here. A happening place for sure & not for Lightweights. Not sure about food, we never asked or tried, if indeed there was any.

If you get to Redondo Beach - you must come here & waste an hour, or two, drinking the fine draft and bottled beers on offer.

Been here multiple times! Love their finger foods must admit they have a large selection of beer on tap! They do have a juke box in which you can put music; television screens to watch the games, and during the weekends live bands.

One of the best bars I have been to in terms of craft beer selection. Unbelievable actually. Service is not the best, but the location and selection is fantastic.

Good place for a non-drinker to take their beer connoisseur friends from Pariguay.

Went during LABW for the FSW tapping event they had. Waited 3 hours in a overly crowded dive bar that had reggae music blasting so loud I could barely have a conversation with the people I was with. The lines were long and apparently they couldnt figure out how to tap the special beer that day. I went back n forth about 10 times constantly kept asking while in a line just to try the beer and one the guys just kept telling me "Bro, youll know its tapped when we announce it"..Well I gave up and on my way out of leaving, find out they tapped the beer and told no one..how thoughtful of you guys seriously. I got what was left in a pitcher prolly half a pints worth and it wasnt worth the hassle. I will not be coming back here for any event they have.

Stopped by a few beers while in Torrance on business.

Had a blast! Great beer selection, though they said it was down due to preparing for the an upcoming beer fest. Live band on the inside; the harbor, beautiful sunny day and fishing boats right outside the windows. Grabbed a Port Swami to begin with, then asked the boys behind the bar what I would like that I couldn't get at home similar to the Sculpin and Wesy Coast IPA they also had on the board. He said Dirt Wolf not knowing I was from PA!

Low and behold they had Pliney!! Was not listed on the board, but they readily volunteered it. Made my day!

A must see...
