500mL bottle, $3.49 at the Lebanon Co-op grocery. Served cold in a chilled pint glass.

Heavy pour gives a big 3" of rocky white head that takes several minutes to settle to a drinkable level. Brew is a mostly-clear yellow with abundant carbonation seen floating upward. Leaves no lace. Very clear for an unfiltered hefe. Nose is clove, banana, yeast, wheat, light malts, a little caramel sweetness, and a bit of an acidic bite. Taste is the same banana and clove, mild light malt and wheat background, some yeast, overall similar to the smell. Finishes with a little sweetness and mild grassy lemon hops. Mouthfeel is crisp and light with appropriate carbonation. Overall a classic hefe.

Appearance - HUGE, creamy whaite head above a transclucsent, light aprcit or straw color. Looks fairly impressive.

Aroma - Sweet mild, wheat aromaswith banana and a hint of clove. Has some other, very subtle aromas that I can't put my finger on. Reminds me of fresh, clean linen. Some malt sweetness comes through.

Taste - It's good, but not outstanding. Nice balance of wheat, citrus and a hint of malt sweetness hidden way back there behind the sourness of your typical wheat. Some other very subtle flavors in there to. A woodiness kind of feel.

Mouthfeel- Full bodied with an appropriate level of carbonation. Not as puckering as some hefes, but very refreshing.

Drinkability - Very drinkable. I've tasted better hefes, but not many. Well worth a try.

Cloudy light golden colour, large head. Typical hefe aroma (which is good), cloves, flowers and some citrus. Light bodied, typical hefe flavour but there's just too little of it, thin mouthfeel. Finish / aftertaste is definitely too thin / weak. The Ur-Weisse is a better choice.

.5L, best before September 2011.

Pours a straw hue, on the light side for the style. Cloudy, glowing. The head isn't quite up to par though, as it does not reach the usually lofty Hefeweizen-heights, nor does it stick around too well.

Aroma has mainly spicy notes and some good floral, herbal attributes. Banana in the back.

Flavor is excellent. A lot going on for the style, with plenty of tangy, fruity and yeasty notes. Herbalness comes through again. Banana is not too strong, but I'm okay with that. The mouthfeel is not as exceptionally creamy as the best in the style, though the soft, medium-high carbonation is nice.

A good Hefeweizen, just not as perfect or unique as some.

Poured into an IPA glass.

Look: Hazy burnt yellow body. Foamy cream colored head. Light lacing.

Aroma: Very yeasty with banana and tart fruit notes.

Taste: Malty and sweet, some faint banana, wheat graininess.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, fairly smooth.

Overall: A solid Hefe, for sure. Great price point for the quality.

I poured this into my trusty Maisel's Weisse Weizen glass from a 0.5l bottle. The head was a durable 2 inches and left a great residual belgian lacing. The carbonation was less than I would have liked for a Hefeweizen. The taste was a banana clove but somewhat muted. Had a great mouthfeel. Would definitely be a choice. Will rereview it after I get to drink it on tap next year in Aying.

For now a good Hefeweizen, one of the best, but still a step below Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen.

A: Hazy pale yellow, coarse white head that dissipates and leaves no lacing. Energetic streams of bubbles.

S: Lemon, banana, clove that verges on bubblegum but is still welcome.

T: Those lighter fruit notes, with misty orange thrown in there and clove now mixed with some coriander. Faint soft vanilla on the finish. Good range, especially considering the method used to produce them, but just a bit too weak for my preference.

M: Light, well carbonated, dry. Good refreshing aspect.

O: Super easy drinker while still having a great array of flavors, but I would expect a standard for the style to be more resolute in flavors. The balance between each was fantastic, but mature doesn't have to mean weak.

Whoa!
This baby foams out of the bottle- a 1/2 inch "head"!

Sheets of foam cascade down my glass. An orange color and not particularly cloudy for a "mit hefe".

Aroma is orange and cloves. Definitely catches your interest.
Taste doesn't overwhelm as much as the aroma. Still it is a good, tart weiss. The finish is clean and thirst quenching. Strikes me as a good situation beer- floating down a lazy river on a hot day.

I gotta say that I love the colorful caps with the idyllic picnic scenes.

On tap. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma has the classic hefeweizen yeast esters, fresh and floral. Taste starts with sweet wheat malt and banana flavor. Finish is more balanced with some hop bitterness. Medium body with high effervescence. Overall this is a really well made, classic hefeweizen.

Poured from a 500ml bottle at 45F into a weizen glass

A - thick looking cloudy with streams of bubbles, golden with hints of orange. Head has good sticking power and looks steady

S - Cream cheese cake icing, bananas (duh) a warm honey and even a bit of mint of some kind, nice yeasty funk

T - Tangy, with a nice funky yeast as well, really light spice, then caramel and a little bit or sweet citrus

M - White chocolate sauce smooth, just slick and smooth on the way down. Finish is just dry enough to go back for more

O - Smooth and balanced, easy drinking. I can understand its great rating due to the balance. I like a little more funk though

European style 500 mL bottle poured into an Ayinger lager style glass. Freshness not apparent on the bottle. Big pillowy white head that remains a constant fixture on top. Opaque golden color with lively bubbles rising to the top. Sweet banana aromas coming off the top with hints of clove and pepper - some lemon as it warms. Peppery spice to start off, moving into banana, then bubble gum with a banana bread malty finish. Full presence in the mouth with a sharp carbonic bite - not smooth. The flavors in this beer are very pleasing, but the carbonic bite takes away from the drinkability for me. Maybe a more vigorous pour would have taken the sharpness off and made it a bit more smooth. For a less favorite style of mine, this beer showed itself off pretty well. Very authentic full flavors that held their own during the time of harvests, pumpkins, and O'fests.

Pours out a hazed straw yellow amber with a bright white weak head. There are some yeasty notes, but wheat and malt flavors are hardy sweet. Citrus notes come back atcha for a bit of hop balance. Fruity are we? A decent hefe, but not up to snuff with my expectations. Certainly quite the drinkable brew and worth tasting.

A real thirst-quencher!

Pours up pale-straw coloured with some carbonation and a rapidly disappearing head--no lacing. Overwhelming smell of lemon.

Lots of lemon in the taste, a bit of banana and cloves, some apple and lots of yeast. Tart on the finish and dry. Almost champagne-like.

Perfect patio beer to pair with hot wings or spicy sausage.

Pours a murky honey yellow with a 2 inch foamy light orange-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small foamy streaks of lace form randomly around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, banana, yeast, and spices. Taste is of wheat, grain, banana, yeast, and spice flavors that stick around on the finish. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a nice crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good hefeweizen but it lacks the strong bubblegum and banana flavors that I have found in other beers of the style.

Appearance- light yellow color, cloudy, decent to heavy carbonation, thin to no head quickly appear,

Smell- light wheat, slight lemon and citrus notes, slight yeast tones, grains, and dough

Taste- slight lemon citrus flavors on taste upfront, very fresh and crisply refreshing, wheat flavors are very strong, clover, yeast, definitely a lot of strong flavors here

mouthfeel- light bodied and yet highly carbonated,

Drinkability- very drinkable and to me this is this beers strongest point, very refreshing with plenty of citrus tones, good session brew with good taste and crispness, another hefe that would be great summertime drinking right out the cooler and of course into a nice glass : )

Excellent pour with a soft pillowy head and a rich looking wheat body. No looking through this glass. Nice fresh wheat scents with a minty banana nose. Smells outstanding! Light bodied, a bit thin, with a clove-like wheat-ness and a tingly orange peel backdrop. Slightly tart, however, I bought this at a grocery store and no freshness date on this one. I do not like buying any wheat beer without a freshness date on it but ayingers' are great no matter.

This one does measure up with great hefeweizens out there, even though I generally prefer American versions because they are usually more fresh. This weizen is nothing to snub, however, as it is an enjoyable beer anytime of the season!

Hazed straw gold with a thin wisp of white foam. An all-around subtle hefeweizen with mild banana and peach evident along with lemongrass and meadow flowers. A strong yeastiness persists along with bready yeast. No my absolute favorite of the classic German hefeweizens, but still quite good.

From a 500ml bottle into a pint glass, a dusky-yellow orange color with heavy carbonation. One-finger whitish head that fades moderately leaving a thin cap and ring and light lacing. Decent looking. Nose is sweet and perfumy with underlying hops, faint grapefruit, and a bit of mustiness. Tastes of subtle grapefruit-citrus, semi-sweet malt, mild hops, faint cloves, and banana. Good flavor complexity, yet light. Mouth is very good, slick, wet with moderate carbonation; very thirst-quenching. Drinkability is similarly good. This is a good, light-bodied hefe that’s easily sessionable.

Overall: A great hefe, one of the better ones, recommended.

Purchased at the LCBO for around $3.00 for a 500ml bottle. Served in a tulip at 4deg C.

A- Opens well pouring a high white head. Unfiltered and golden good. Head lasts and lasts

S- Pretty good! Enjoyable Coriander and banana hints. Slight but there

T- Pretty good. There is a hint at the end of the finish that reminds me of clove

M- Light and dry. Good

O- Pretty good. Nothing special and I will not buy again but nice to try. Good for hot weather

Food Pairing

This pretty good white beer goes well with... Spicey tuna roll sushi!

Enjoy!

A very light foggy yellow color with a light soft off white head. Extremely cloudy. A classic hefeweizen nose of citrus, wheat, banana, and some spice. I enjoyed the crisp coriander flavor. A very refreshing beer. The finish is clean with just a little bit of a scratchy wheat feeling on the roof of my mouth. Easy drinker.

Purchased a bottle at Julio's Liquors in Westborough, MA.

A: Medium straw color. Cloudy/opaque. Pours with a thick high white head that dissipates relatively quickly.

S: Great mix of grainy/bready malt with clean and crisp, well defined banana ester and clove like phenol character.

T: Banana flavor is weak as opposed to phenolic clove flavors. Some bready/grainy malt character. Finish is tart and citrusy. A little too much I thought.

MF: Light nearly watery mouthfeel. Highly carbonated. Dry finish.

D: Great nose, I wish the taste was as good. I found the flavor to be overly tart and citric. Could have been a little sweeter. This took a little bit away from its drinkability but still a very easy drinking, sessionable beer.

On tap at The Map Room in Chicago, the beer of the month. Hazy light golden color, with lots of streaming bubbles. White fluffy head holds well for a while.

Light banana and clove in the nose, not as strong as others of the style. Pretty simple, maybe a bit of earthy aromas as well.

Very refreshing, a bit tart, but true to style. Hint of banana, but not a whole lot of clove. Lacking a bit of character compared to others.

A good amount of carbonation, but seems just a tad thin. Still very enjoyable.

I carefully managed to pour the entire 50 cL bottle into my Weihenstephan Weizen glass, and the head was magnificent. Beer color is a vethick and hazy lemon color, translucent. The quick-rising bubbles passing through are numberous and quite large.

Smells strongly of bananas, cloves, a little pepper, yeast, and a biscuity wheat twang.

Taste is mild, with a bit of wheat twang, and a light biscuit flavor. Not too complex, but nice.

Medium in the mouth, but very bubbly and refreshing.

A good summer drinker, but I wish for more. Nice burps!

500ml bottle purchased from BevMo in Sunnyvale, CA.

Pours a very pale straw colour, thickly hazed with a frothy, pure white head. Disappointingly, the head doesn't stick around for a long time and settles out to a film that is, admittedly, still very fine, and pure white.

Nose is fairly decent, without the punch of the best weizens. Calm estery banana notes with a touch of dustiness, and a little organic funk like grass clippings in the sun. There's a zestiness to it as well, a little zing like Aspro-Clear and just a hint of those phenolic clove notes. Nice stuff.

Taste is clean and bright, with an underlying weight and sweetness from the yeast characters. More pleasant banana notes, with a clean, direct character through the centre that feels a little like acidity from the wheat. Finish is dry and light, leaving the beer more refreshing than its palate would make you think.

Feel is great, smooth and heavy, but with a zestiness that prevents it from getting unmanageable.

Overall, it's a really nice hef. Smooth and very drinkable—there's nothing wrong with it. It perhaps doesn't have the intensity and richness of my favourites (like Weihenstephaner), but it's a fine addition to the style nonetheless.

1 pt 9 fl oz brown bottle poured into weihenstephan weissbeir glass.

A - a very heady beer, I had to wait a couple seconds to fill in the last couple drops to get up to the .5L rastal line (I have no clue in hell what rastal means). the head is white, fluffy, and big, and dissipates in an acceptable amount of time. in the light the beer is shades of hazy orange and golden yellow. away from the light it becomes a dark brownish yellow, like a mustard.

S - smells good, of lemony and orange zest right up front. there is a slight sweetness to the beer as well, something like bananas. not much else to report for this beer. pretty good, not great, but not terrible.

T - good solid taste for a hefe. there is a bit of hop bitterness right in the beginning, though very light, which gives in to the direct flavour of banana. bready flavours dominate the finish the as with a highly noticeable apple flavor, which is to be had in this beer: during the finish there is a noticeable flavour of red delicious, and cantaloupe/banana if you dont mind me saying so. the after taste is like that primarily of fruits: black cherry, and fermented apple.

MF&D - could be a bit thicker, but the carbonation is just right in my experience and opinion. I dont know how much more criticism I have for this beer; seems like a solid alternative to warsteiner (if you are ever in that dreaded position)
