Poured a golden yellow with a thick foamy head. Body was unusually translucent for a hefe weizen.

Aromas of hops, banana and clove dominated.

Flavors were generally weak overall. Some hops and lemon were noticeable.

Body was rather thin and quite over carbonated. (The carbonation seemed to sting my mouth).

Overall, a disappointment.

Ayinger- Brau Weisse

$3.10 for a 500ml bottle.

Appearance- orange yellow with heavy carbonation and a thick white head. No lacing.
Smell- Strong clove and spice.
Taste- Strong spicy clove wheat flavor. Smooth and well balanced flavor.
Mouthfeel- Smooth up front but heavy carbonation makes the beer tingly.

Overall- A nice flavorful beer that, despite the heavy carbonation, is definitely a top 10 in the Hefe catagory.

Right from the start this had everything going for it, a good looking bottle, a decent price for a four pack @$7.00;

Chilled down it poured nicely into the wheat beer glass, reserved las 3/4 of an inch, capped the bor a truly wonderful shade of yellow; foggy, unfiltered with the head about 1 and ½ inch, looking like a nice meringue sitting on top of a lemon pie.

The smell was full and fresh, tangy wheat and nutty yeast.

The taste was just as interesting. This was really a great find as Hefe Weizen’s go. Great tang adn body to hold the flavor, extremely smooth, creamy and perfectly carbonated. A nice crisp finish and pleasant aftertaste. This ranks very high on my list, and beats out some of the more classic benchmarks IMHO.

Pours a hazy tan with mild head. Nice lemony biscuit aroma. The taste is great with a hint of yeast, lots of citrus, and nice subtle sweetness. The carbonation is just enough to give the nice cleansing mouthfeel. Overall this is a great wheat beer, one I would highly recommend.

Definitely a good summertime beer. This beer poured very cloudy with a gigantic head. Sadly there was not a lot of lacing as the evening progressed. Smell was very subtle with yeast and hints of lemon. Very dry taste with just the right undertones of hops. Near perfect carbonation and a great start to the weekend.

Poured a hazy medium straw hue with a three finger white pillowy head. There was very good retention and decent lacing.

The smell was dominated by a yeasty wheaty aroma with hints of banana and clove. There was a slight lemon element as well.

The taste was also dominated by the yeasty character. A solid wheaty backbone supported the mild spiciness.

The mouthfeel was clean and refreshing, with an excellent chewy wheat sensation.

A very nice authentic hefe.

Pours a hazy pale yellow body into a .5 liter weizen glass, topped by a four finger vanilla head. Lots of carbonation is apparent through the haze. Good head retention and modrate lacing.

Aroma boasts some toasty wheat, clove, black pepper, lemon and banana peel.

Mouthfeel is light medium with a spiffy carbonation.

Taste is peppery cracked wheat, accented by lemon, banana pulp, and clove. Very refreshing.

As good a German weizen as I've had. Very nice!

I picked this up in their standard bottle size. I think it is somewhere around 16 oz. I sampled it with a couple other wheats and enjoyed this one the best.

Appearance: Poured a pale gold/straw with a fingers width white, fluffy head.

Smell: Subdues sweetness from the esters. It seemed very balanced between the spiciness and the sweet qualities.

Taste: Very balanced. Definitely could pick out the estery qualities, but it wasn't a full frontal assault. Very nice and smooth aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Light and refreshing.

Drinkability: Quenching. Not over the top with the sweetness and it leaves a nice desire for another or two if you so desire.

I purchased this tonight at Downtown Wine & Spirits along with a few other bottles. I chilled this in the fridge and served it in my UFO Weizen glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden with a thick creamy white head that collapses to a thin quarter-inch layer.

Smell: Very yeasty with notes of bubble-gum, banana, clove and citrus. There are also grainy and spicy aromas.

Taste: Sweet upfront, with spicy cloves in the center and a citric and grainy finish.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied, moderate carbonation with a crisp finish.

Drinkability: Very refreshing, especially given the current weather.

Overall: This is a good beer, but not my favorite Hefe.

A- pours a hazy pale yellow with a white foamy head which leaves some lacing as it disappears.

S- citrusy lemon is the first smell noticed followed by some banana and clove.

T- excellent. Tastes like it smells. Lemon with some banana and clove. Clean finish.

M- good amount of carbonation. Smooth and light bodied but not watery.

Overall - Hefes are my favorite and this beer is just one more reason why. A perfect summer time brew.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Left a giant head with pretty good retention, receding to surface skim eventually, no lacing. Body was a cloudy pale yellow.

Smell - esters, fruits, bananas mostly. Hint of cloves, hint of wheat creaminess.

Taste - same as the nose, mostly bananas, washed with subtle clove, and creamy wheat.

Mouthfeel - moderately full, a little chewy, somewhat creamy.

Drinkability - this is good, goes down well, and is very sessionable.

Reviewing for style here, as much as possible.

Pours a hazy yellow with a 1-finger white head that sticks around for several minutes and laces moderately. Sediment can be seen in the glass along with myriad bubbles.

Aroma is of wheat, banana and citrus fruit. Very lemony. Yeast is evident in the nose.

Taste is creamy, wheat and lots of lemon. Smooth and creamy, but not too much so. I swirled pretty fiercely and poured the yeast, so I'm also getting a little nutty yeastyness.

Mouthfeel is well-carbonated, refreshing and smooth. Leaves citrus on the palate. Extremely drinkable ale, a good summer beer for a hot day.

Pours a slightly hazy light gold color with lots of carbonation bubbles and an epic head of bright white. Nose is of wheat, cloves, and citrus primarily. Some banana-like characteristics here. Palate is initially dry, then warming into a sweeter malty wheat flavor. Spices throughout and the characteristic banana flavors are here. Mouthfeel is medium, at best. Good carbonation. Finishes surprisingly dry, but with some fruity tones carrying through. Goos stuff ... I can get this one in singles at a local liquor store for like $2.25 each ... not bad at all if you crave a good Bavarian style Hefeweizen. Get one!

Poured hazy golden yellow with a thick fizzy head that quickly became a fairly thick lacing.
The aroma was clean, a hint of cloves and a bit overpowered by lemon.
The taste was of citrus, especially lemon, banana/clove and just a touch of yeast in the background.
It was creamy and refreshing.
It's a good beer, especially for cleansing the palate or drinking on a hot day because of the light, clean and fresh taste and feel.

Poured a cloudy, pale yellow with a huge, billowy white head. Exactly what a hefeweizen should look like. Aroma was cloves, wheat, and maybe some bubble gum--and I *never* smell bubble gum in wheat beers! Body was light-to-medium, and the taste was about like the smell. Very nice. Mouthfeel was pretty typical for the style; creamy balanced with tart. Drinkability was quite good.

Weizens are not my favorite style, but I do enjoy them on occasion as a summer thirst-quencher. This is one of the best. Yum.

a - light amber in color, veyr cloudy, lots and lots of bubbles, big fluffy white head with good retention, lacing is decent

s - big banana, clove, lemon, and wheat

t - wheat, banana, and some citrus, very refreshing, great lingering finish that's dominated by slight bitterness and wheat

m - light-bodied, lots of carbonation, but not too much

d - very drinkable, I could session this on a summer night very easily, the taste is such that it doesn't get boring, very refreshing beer

Great Hefe all around. Right up there with Weihenstephaner and Franziskaner in my book. Perfect beer for a hot day like today.

Pours a hazy pale yellow some orange in the center. A nice big fluffy white head that falls to a ring, strange not much alce on this baby.

Aroma is big hit of lemon on the pour that fades to a more mellow wheaty aroma with some citrus. The usual banana, clove and good yeasts are another notch under on this one.

Taste is nice wheaty good big citrus flavors lemon mainly mixed with some tart apples banana popping up mild spice on finish clove and yeast. Nice tart little hefe almost like some currants are present.

Mouthfeel is nice medium smooth nice mellow level of carbonation. A joy to drink.

Drinkability is good a nice hefe, a little more tart then others it seems which is nice.

Absolutely delicious. Pours like a dream a cloudy yellow with a billowing white head. Smells of bubblegum and bannana with touches of the spicy clove. The taste is a pure phenol delight with slight blossom of citrus in the finish. Substance of body with but still enjoyable light. Drinkable is not even the word.

Poured into a weizen glass it was very cloudy and golden yellow in color. A huge head. It smelled of wheat and cloves. The wheat taste was complimented by a citrus flavor. The mouthfeel was soft and semi-dry. Like most unfiltered weisse beers, it was a little heavier than expected. Overall, I was highly impressed with the Brau-Weisse.

Pours into a weizen glass with a giant head. A very strong aroma of banana and cloves. Standard hefe cloudiness and head retention. A 1/4 inch head stays until the end. Very drinkable, I couldn't believe how quickly I finished this beer. Not overpoweringly fruity and well balanced. Very good.

this pours a cloudy whitish yellow with a large white head and a ton of carbonation. The smell has a strong lemon, wheat, "bisquity", and more citrus aromas. The taste is lemon, wheat, pepper, creamy bakery flavors, and Belgian sugar. The m/f is light and the flavors mix very well. This is not only a great summer beer, it's a great beer period. Enjoy.

Fantastic. Smells like bubble gum - the kind you used to get out of a pack of baseball cards..."original" flavor. Very healthy bubbly white head. This, like Paulaner's hefe, is to me, the ultimate example of a hefeweizen. Its like a combination of all the perfect qualities of a hefe and a witbier combined. Its light, extremely refreshing, smooth, absolutely flavorful, and has no abrasive qualities that are usually present in american hefeweizen attempts. Anyone with any appreciation of craft beer would have to respect this beer, and it would also be a perfect possible introduction to the world of craft beers.

Pours pale gold, and very cloudy. A creamy white head quickly fills the glass, then slowly falls leaving some spotty lacing. Bready yeast aroma with phenolics like plastic and cloves and a hint of wheat in the background. The taste is sweet upfront from the wheat, with a nice mellow bubblegum and clove flavor. Zesty citrus comes out in the semi-dry aftertaste, followed by a gentle wave of noble hop bitterness and pale barley. The unfiltered wheat allows a ceamy texture, while the high carbonation and thin body give it a pleasent crispness. Trace phenols in the finish but the drinkability remains very high. A very well-put together Hefe with a complex yet balanced flavor, and an uncommonly smooth mouthfeel.

This is a cloudy yellow beer with a billowy white head that just permeates the best aroma. Lacing is great.

The aroma is of banana, clove, yeasty esters galore.

The flavor is of super esters. There is banana flavors, some clove, apple, some citrus. This is a very flavorfull and estery beer. Very refreshing and a great summer beer.

The mouthfeel is medium/full bodied with moderate carbonation.

This beer is very drinkable. It's the one beer that my wife is liable to steal right from under me. Appeals to a wide variety of beer drinkers.

Bottle purchased at Beertopia in Omaha, NE.
No clear freshness date on bottle.
Poured into a Schell's weizen glass.

Pours a tall, clean-white, meringue-like head, fluffy and cloud-esque. Head fades down significantly over time to a thin ring around the glass. Leaves spotty lacing, but nothing amazing. Body is hazy golden brown with plenty of yeast sediment, but when held up to a light, the beer is pale yellow ghostly highlights. Gazing into the beer, one notes fairly active carbonation streams that support the lingering ring of foam.

The aroma has discernible ripe banana parts with gentle maltiness. Subdued clove and assorted other fruit esters. This is the one aspect of this beer I thought was a bit lacking and could be more expressive.

Taste opens with pleasant sweetness that's quickly adjusted with a bit of lemon flavor. Ripe bananas, yeast, bubblegum, and spice (including faint mint or menthol?) then follow. A sharper hefeweizen in the middle segment of taste that focuses more on spice and banana esters than milder malt characteristics. Aftertaste is of ripe bananas tempered with a mild tartness.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, with a gentle carbonation level that offers some crispness as well. The finish is dry.

A quality hefeweizen, good for when one wants something slightly more tart than the typical wheat beer, but still features the classic tastes and scents as well.
