Hazy straw to light gold (SRM 2). Two fingers of creamy white head leaves a full coating of lace on the Franziskaner weizen glass. The head retreats like a glacier in winter.

Fresh, clean banana is strong for the style. White bread and clove follows. Aroma is simple and exquisite.

Clean and crisp, perfect balance. Light flavors of banana bread, followed by some honeydew melon and a light refreshing finish.

A silky smooth texture and light body with a hint of alcohol. Fine fizzy carbonation explodes with each sip.

This is one of those truly exceptional drinking beers. It is perfect for early autumn in the crisp sunny air while relaxing. I wish I had some cheese.

A: pale cloudy yellow, silky-shiny/creamy white cap, billowy head

S: allspice and banana custard, fresh-baked dinner rolls, faint springtime floral notes... bright, inviting aromas all-around

T: sour-dough, sugar cookie aftertaste with a hint of spice.... lemony, flowery hops.... though, perhaps lacking a decent bit of that bready malt flavor I enjoy in many examples of the style

M: perfect sudsy-soft, medium-light body... initially fills the palate, vaguely nectar-y, then drops dry

O: glad I finally got around to trying this... quite a fantastic hefeweizen - one of the best

Serving: Bottle into pint
Served: 21 February 2014

Appearance: A hazy, rich golden color with a foamy white head. Incredible head retention as one would expect from a wheat beer. Lots of carbonation streaming up the sides.

Smell: Sweeter than a Weihenstephaner, and slightly more fruity. Lots of banana, but also some notes of apple or pear.

Taste: Sweet banana with a white-wine overlay. Different from other hefeweizen's I've had but not in a bad way. The white-wine notes definitely stuck out at first, but I warmed up to them. As the beer warmed, the banana notes really started to shine.

Mouthfeel: At first, almost like champagne, but eventually the carbonation mellowed a bit and the drink became silky smooth on the palate.

Overall: A great hefeweizen and one with a distinctly different character than Weihenstephaner. Certainly worth trying if you like hefeweizens. A great beer overall, and one I would highly recommend.
