Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
“The union of wheaty freshness and dark malt often produces a fullness of taste and complexity”, explains the world-famous English beer commentator Michael Jackson.

This also applies to the Ayinger Urweisse, which is a strong amber-colored, yeast cloudy wheat beer. The beer is strong with the first taste and malty in aroma. The top-fermented, yeasty taste sensation is unmistakable. This beer is rich in sparkle and has just a touch of a special bitter quality. The fruity, malty mild aroma will have you won you over immediately!

Ayinger Urweisse, 5.8% ABV, 13 IBU. Pours medium viscosity, brown, with a 3 finger white head on a careful pour, leaving little lacing. Nose is bread and banana, taste follows, with almost no bitterness. Slightly heavy carbonation, but still decent mouthfeel. Overall excellent.

500ml bottle poured into a weizen glass.

Cloudy deep amber brown color, it tops with majestic creamy off-white head that very well retains itself with remarkable retention before slowly sinking to an eternal fluffy layer that will never die down and leaving some lacing behind, high visible carbonation.

The aroma is well balance between all the elements of ripe banana, citrus, lime, clove spice, pepper, bubblegum, caramel, dough, some toasted and dark bread.

Fruity ester leads the taste with notes of banana, citrus, and lime while there are also the other yeasty flavors of clove spice and pepper. Malt displays as the flavor structure with its dough, dark bread, toasted bread, and caramel. Hop is at the end with ghost-like bitterness together with some fruity tartness from yeast.

Medium body with some good crisp and lively carbonation through the palate, smooth mouthfeel with nice refreshing touch, finish is dry.

When it comes to Ayinger with the wheat beer, you can always rest assure the quality and drinkability without doubt.

More like a hefeweizen with a amber color. Lots of clove and banana. The esters are well balanced with the caramel and nutty malts. Really good and balanced beer

From a bottle into a tulip: hazy brown Amber color. Lacy head. Very aromatic; banana and pear. Just a little bit tart and sweet at the same time. Silky feel. Lingering banana aftertaste.

Hazy orange/amber with thick golden head, good retention.
Creamy weizen smell.
Utterly balanced taste, probably, tad watery.
Medium body, medium to high carbonation.
Terrific.

A nice spicy, banana, unfiltered wheat. Bitter finish that started with a creamy smooth mouthfeel. Would have rated higher if less bitter at the end.

Poured from a 500mL bottle into my Ayinger weissbier glass.

Flame to tawny liquid, cloudy with a lasting finger of pillowy off-white foam up top. Soapy lacing, superior retention, no legs.

Nose exhibits a blend of banana, clove, and a hint of malt (caramel?), with an slight emphasis on fruity esters. Well balanced and moderated.

Wheat infused tangy palate entry with a low-level but persistent lactic acidity cutting through the esters - the effect reminds me of a dollop of lemon curd on top of strawberry shortcake or orange curd on top of banana bread. Malt comes forward with dough and toast notes, tailed by a faint aftertaste of clove or nutmeg. Medium-dry finish with both sweet and tart flavors competing.

Carbonation feels heavier than it looks, the beer surging more in the mouth than in the glass. Not quite medium-bodied - quite refreshing.

An excellent example of a style that is very well suited to the shoulder seasons, particularly Indian Summer with its blustery, hot, but fast-fading days. I would prefer a little more malt complexity, increased phenols, and less acidity, but these are matters of personal preference rather than faults in the finely crafted beer itself.

Yellow amber color with large frothy white head. Lemon and clove in the nose. They carry over to the taste, along with a big blast of banana, hefeweizen yeast and a touch of spiciness. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Great wheat beer.
