Style: Dunkelweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
“The union of wheaty freshness and dark malt often produces a fullness of taste and complexity”, explains the world-famous English beer commentator Michael Jackson.

This also applies to the Ayinger Urweisse, which is a strong amber-colored, yeast cloudy wheat beer. The beer is strong with the first taste and malty in aroma. The top-fermented, yeasty taste sensation is unmistakable. This beer is rich in sparkle and has just a touch of a special bitter quality. The fruity, malty mild aroma will have you won you over immediately!

Pours a cloudy light brown color with a nice medium top off beige creamy head that disolves slowly. The aroma is off banana, wheat, yeast, caramel and cloves. The flavour is sweet and fruity with some nice wheat-malts in the back that gives a slight roasted feel, and some cloves that make a slight spicy feel.Finishes off a little dry and with a nice lenght in the aftertaste. Very good balanced and no off-flavours. Medium carbonated with a medium body, the mouthfeel are creamy and soft. This really is a great beer, and a very good example off it,s style. This brewery did not dissapoint me this time either, would reccomend this one.

500 ml bottle, exp. 02/2018. Amber and very cloudy, with a lot of foam. I got no lacing. Banana and spices. A bit of alcohol on aroma. Full body and high smoothness, which I found more present at the first sips. Carbonation feel is well inserted and gives a crisp finish. Very drinkable. Got it for a good price. Excellent one.

S: Sour and slightly tart, mildly dank, of dark wheat, especially banana bread.
T: Banana Bread, mild clove, lactose sweet, mildly peppery, lightly tastes of wheat, very complex. Maybe even a light mint ,or sour, taste at times.
F: Few other beers rival this one in mouthfeel and complexity. Thick mouth feel, medium-full to full carbonation, when taking a mouthfull, at times, sharp and peppery feel, crisp end with solidly creamy finish.

In my opinion, the best of the Ayingers.

This brew is a dark, murky brownish, translucent colored liquid. This head is fizzy and medium-lived. Amazing aroma: banana, a little clove, malt, wheat, and a perfume-like scents. The taste is semi dry, clean, and flavorful. Full in body and extremely enjoyable.

Poured a very cloudy dark amber with a 3 finger frothy off-white head. Light lacing. Nose is musty, grassy, and unripe bananas. Taste of malt, banana, mellon and mild clove. Moderate thick feel with moderate light carbonation. Overall, this is good but I prefer hefe.

L....cloudy...not dark like I expected. Orangish amber. Nice head.. good lacing.
S.... distinctly bananas..cloves
T.... right away the zing jumped out.. wasn't expecting that...not sour or anything like that....tartness...apple and maybe lemon notes on top or right with the banana.
F... carbonation not excessive but high.. not the smoothest hefe. Not a bad taste... still pretty pleasant.
Overall... something tells me there is something different...not subtle but still not your run of the mill here. Actually there may be something missing here or maybe added. I can't put my tongue on it. Sure I would drink it again.

Tasted on tap at Ayingers in Munich.

Dirty amber color with plenty of cloudiness. Moderate and lasting head. Only a few spots on the glass.

Strong wheat aroma with a bit of yeast and lightly toasted malt. Not very "dark" to the nose. A touch of banana.

The flavor draws out more banana than the smell. The yeast is also stronger. The malt is toasty but not "too dark". It's also sweet. The aftertaste is relatively short.

Poured from 500ml bottle into weizen glass. No bottling or freshness date.

L: Cloudy light amber brown. Excellent fluffy two finger khaki head with outstanding retention.

S: Banana, clove, apples. Gentle aroma.

T: Lots of fruit, apple and banana, clove. Soft flavors but very tasty.

F: Medium body, crisp, semi-dry.

O: I have come to believe Ayinger doesn't make a bad beer. This is very very good.
