Notes / Commercial Description:
“The union of wheaty freshness and dark malt often produces a fullness of taste and complexity”, explains the world-famous English beer commentator Michael Jackson.

This also applies to the Ayinger Urweisse, which is a strong amber-colored, yeast cloudy wheat beer. The beer is strong with the first taste and malty in aroma. The top-fermented, yeasty taste sensation is unmistakable. This beer is rich in sparkle and has just a touch of a special bitter quality. The fruity, malty mild aroma will have you won you over immediately!

A: Pours a cloudy copper color with a two finger thick creamy off-white head. The head reduces by about 25% but has great retention. There is significant lacing observed.

S: Lots of banana + clove in the nose of this beer with some much lighter hints of wheat and sweet malts.

T: This beer starts out a little sweet with some caramel notes to the malts and wheat, followed by the flavors of banana + clove, and finishes with a hint of toastiness and bitterness. Very nice complexity and balance to the flavors.

M: Medium bodied with moderate to high amounts of carbonation. Slightly prickly on the tongue like a champagne.

O: Very easy to drink and very refreshing, definitely a session beer that makes me want to sit outside on the beautiful spring day that it is today and have several of these - though it would be much better in a beer garden in Bavaria.

Poured heartily into a 0.5l Weizen glass. Nice deep golden color that was accentuated by the frothy and long lasting head. Smell was as expected for a quality German Weizen -- bananas, cloves, but with a further hint of fruitiness that was fully manifested upon tasting. The taste was truly exceptional with the flavors being more developed. I especially enjoyed the almost cola like flavors that the beer imparts. The creamy mouthfeel and well balanced carbonation only furthered the beer drinking experience. This is no ordinary Weizen. Definitely superior to Ayinger's Bräu-Weisse if you prefer a more complex beer.

this poured a slightly hazy deep amber/almond with a nice creamy head and lacing. nose was spicy, roasty, nutty, and toffee-ish. aromas carried through in the well-balanced flavor. minimal hop presence in this one. sessionable, and another nice offering from ayinger.
