Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is gold, light effervescence, head is off white with fine bubbles, head presents one finger thick, then dissipates to thin top, spotty head on the glass sides.
Smell is clean pilsner malt with light sweetness, bread, dough, biscuit, light grass/herbal hops.
Taste is light sweet malt, pilsner grapenuts like character, bread, dough, biscuit, light caramel, honey, then grassy/herbal hops - excellent flavor.
Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, near moderate bitterness - another high quality factor of this brew a pleasant feel and drinkability.
Overall an excellent maibock - full malt flavor, moderate hopping, very smooth finish.

11.2 oz bottle L3327 poured quickly into a chalice.
L: SRM 3-4 Pours clear rich pale gold with a thin eggshell white head, light carbonation with a few large steady bubbles, head recedes to edge foam then to nothing, almost no lacing.
S: Bready, malty, grains, a gentle hop note, distant honey.
T: Sweet malts, a slightly herbal hop note, lightly fruity, subtle sweet brown bread, pear, apple, very light citrus zest which lingers a bit, a drop of honey, bready at the very end. Overall it is moderately full-flavored and is gently rich.
F: Lightly brisk semi-smooth & fairly clean medium-full bodied feel with a medium length gently drying finish that whisks itself away.
O: A surprisingly hoppy Maibock that is extremely easy to drink and is not overly sweet as some Maibocks can be. Lightly fruity with a breakaway finish. It is outstanding in its style.

A - Pours a beautiful copper gold color with perfect clarity, moderate steady carbonation, and a creamy dense layer of foam resting on top.
S - Breadcrust, doughy, bready, earthy malt with a slight bit of floral hoppy spiciness.
T - Follows the nose. Big bready, biscuity malt backbone with the perfect amount of hoppy floral bitterness on the back side with a slight bit of citrus in it. Lingers on the palate for a good long time after the sip.
M - Big medium body with sprightly carbonation.
O - This beer is totally fantastic. I'm glad my palate is starting to come back to this style again.

Tried a single bottle from my local party big box store. A surprisingly richly flavored bock. Doesn't have the overwhelming bitterness of the typical double bock, but still has a pleasant dark roasted malt flavor. A higher ABV, and is dry, but without leaving you feeling parched. My favorite import bock now.

Poured into a 34 OZ stein.
My favorite style and I can’t understand why it’s not more popular. Maibocks are full of malt, taste richer than Oktoberfests, are high in ABV, and are generally hoppy.
Very nice looking beer with a darker bronze color and a beatiful 3 finger head. Scents of hallertau, nuts, and honey. Very strong with a good amount of hops. Extremely smooth and heavy, definitely a full bodied beer. Medium to low carbonation. Slight honey taste on the backend. Just a great beer I’ve always wanted and finally found it today.
Ver expensive so I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to afford it again.

Picked up a four pack of bottles.
Pours golden copper in color with a two finger thick, frothy white head on top and plenty of lacing on the glass as you drink. Head retention is very good. Carbonation looks average, or maybe slightly below average, with medium sized bubbles rising up. Looks quite inviting.
Aroma is actually a bit more hop-forward than expected with lemon peel, apple and spice, followed by honey and lots of roasted, doughy, maltiness. Maybe a bit of rye and banana? Maybe that's the yeast coming through. No alcohol discernable on the nose. Hints of complexity.
Taste follows the nose well. It's semi-sweet up front with a lot of roasted maltiness, very much like the crust on a freshly baked loaf of bread. A hop spice builds up as it sits on the tongue with apple and citrus coming in towards the swallow. There's some earthy/herbal notes going on here; white pepper, coriander, clove. Aftertaste is rather bitter with lingering citrus pith. Alcohol comes through a bit towards the end of the glass and as it warms, but it is fairly well masked.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with an excellent chewiness and moderate carbonation with some zestiness on the swallow. It drinks smooth and finishes crisp and dry. Very drinkable for its ABV.
I'll be honest, I haven't had many beers in this style because I haven't liked most of what I've sampled. This one is still borderline too sweet for my tastes, but it has an excellent, bittering finish that makes it more enjoyable for me. I really appreciate the quality and complexity here, it's no doubt the best I've had in this style. That said, this isn't a style I would seek out frequently, but if I were ever in the mood this would be at the top of the list. Ayinger continues to solidify itself as the best brewery in Germany for me, which is saying quite a lot. Prost!

(0.5L draft pour into an Ayinger-branded fluted goblet yesterday at Brauhaus Schmitz)
Clear, yellow gold; three fingers of gorgeous creamy foam, which barely budged until I slurped... typical floral, spicy nose for its ilk; not terribly powerful, but not whisper soft... initial impressions on the palate is that it fits the bill for the style, in this case coming across like a lighter, stronger version of their Jahrhundert; American pale malt liquor tones for sure; as it warmed, certain bready flavors emerged... not as dynamic and characterful as I've had with this style, and even somewhat mediocre for an Ayinger, but it was arguably the best beer I had there during that session (2270)

A: Pours a golden/amber color with beautiful clarity. A dense white head rises immediately, which makes it a bit hard to pour. Excellent retention and plenty of lace left behind.
S: Bread, bread, bread...toasted, baked, sourdough. Malty bread all the way. Maybe a touch more hops would help this out, but still love the malty aroma.
T: All that malty bread again. This is like walking into a bakery. Toasted sourdough, slightly honey like. Just enough earthy spicy hops to balance.
M/O: A medium to full body. Moderate carbonation and smooth, that becomes a bit more syrupy than first expected. Though, Saying that, it is still something I very much enjoy. I can drink this in big gulps and get a bit carried away with expertly hidden 7% ABV.
Of course this is a great example of the style. Ayinger is one of my favorite breweries, and this is the reason why. That malty character is second to none.

In my top 5 of all the beers I've ever tried. Only when I got home was I able to decipher the date code; the beer was over a year old and was sitting there warm in the liquor store. So I was all the more shocked at how delicious this beautiful beer was.

330ml bottle into a pint glass. Appears to have been bottled 1/23, so 8 months old.
Hazy amber body, small head shrinks to a broken ring. Specks of lacing. Aroma is a mixture of malt and apple. Taste is initially sweet, then bitter, then faintly sour. Quite warming in the throat. Disappointed in this one.
