Pours a clear, golden coloration with a large, foamy head and visible carbonation. Smells of doughy, grainy malt and grassy hops, with just a hint of honey coming through as well. Taste is a decent balance of doughy, slightly grainy malts and grassy, quite herbal hops, with just a hint of honey coming through in the aftertaste. Finishes bittersweet, with a medium bitterness and some honey and herbs lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation.

This lacks a certain crispness and is perhaps a little overcarbonated, but is an otherwise quite enjoyable Helles with a good balance of sweet and bitter notes, with a light honey sweetness in the finish that actually turns quite herbal in the aftertaste.

From the slightly warm bottle, it pours a nice clear golden yellow with a modest white head. In the nose, it is lightly malty. In the mouth, it is creamy and smooth with a nice lightly malty flavor.

Typical Bavarian Helles. Had it from a chilled stein. The nose is metallic. Head is average. Very carbonated. Tastes refreshing with a pretty hoppy aftertaste (unusually hoppy for a Baviaran Helles). More sour than a Augustiner or Mooser Liesl. Good solid Helles. Pretty light in alcohol. Good Helles for the summer, but not my favorite. I like Augtustiner and LOVE Mooser Liesl from Arco Bräu.

I made the helpful mistake of pouring this shortly after it's journey here -- it overflowed the bottle on opening and poured a huge head, I was thinking it's going to taste flat, but carbonation was just right. Read in other reviews that it's too carbonated, so I had avoided that problem.

A very clean crisp and drinkable beer. Does get a little thick in the mouth at cellar temps, but then has a nice dry finish with a little bitterness.

Mine is labeled 'Lager Hell'. Drank at cool cellar temp, in a stein. Nothing special, yet special because it is beautifully balanced, and very drinkable.

A nice light crisp pils. Clean finish. Little head and above avg carbonated. Czech hop front and grainy after: great balance. A very drinkable brew. Would be a great summer drop.

It is a correct lager, typical Bavarian. The taste is soft, yellow and gold Body, White and regular foam, average carbonation. The taste is pleasant, malty, sweet, some hop, it is not a complex beer but it is pleasant during the summer time.

On-draught @ Ayinger Wirsthaus in Munich. .5L stemware pour cost less than 5 euro at the time of this writing. Regrettably brief notes below:

A: White cap. Soft-looking. Nice consistency. ~3 minute retention. Messy inconsistent lacing.

Body is a clear pale copper of nice vibrance. Clean, with no yeast visible.

Looks nice for a helles lager.

Sm: Honey, fresh Munich malts, some grassy and floral hop character (likely Hallertau/Noble), pleasant sweetness. Clean attenuation.

Aromatic intensity is average.

T: Follows the aroma. They honeyed malt characteristic is terrific. Balanced albeit simple (to style). Very enjoyable and approachable.

Mf: Smooth, wet, light to medium bodied, refreshing, overcarbonated (almost sharply so), crisp, clean, and approachable. The biting carbonation does get in the way of its drinkability, and a lighter softer presence on the palate would be wonderful.

O: Overcarbonation is its most egregious flaw, but it's otherwise a pleasant helles lager with a nice honeyed taste. Not the insane I-want-to-drink-a-whole-keg drinkability you'd find in a true paragon of the style, but pleasant. I'm glad I tried this one, but it's sub-5 euro price point on-draught makes it a brew I'd only buy at supermarket bottle prices. More solid work from Ayinger, but far from their strongest offering.

High C+ (3.25) / ABOVE AVERAGE

Brilliant clear straw color with white head. Aroma is very clean with a touch of grains and honey. Taste has a slight honey sweetness, bread and also some hop bitterness on the finish. Body is light with crisp carbonation. Really clean, crisp, expertly well made lager.

Poured from a 1/2 liter bottle into a pint glass. Immediately the german yeast aroma comes out strong. The beer has a nice three finger head that stays with excellent lacing. Typical munich flavor with a hint of bananas and very balanced hops and malt. No strong flavors, but a bready aftertaste. Excellent traditional beer.

Everything I want out of a Helles. The tickling malt, a touch of pepper, the liquid breadiness. Beautiful lacing all over the glass. And it's so creamy.

Half litre bottle, poured into over sized Tripel Karmeliet tulip.

A: Golden colour, clear, initial large rocky head faded quickly without leaving much lacing.

S: Tangy Munich malts and noble hops.

T: Honey on toast, hint of sharpnesses, nice balance
without huge depth.

M: Light body, crisp, some bite from the carbonation.

O: A beer to drink rather than one to spend hours talking about, trading for or
discussing online. Good for what it is, but as someone who has sampled numerous
"Helles" I don’t think I’ll keep this one in memory.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a straight pint glass.

Pours a light golden colour with quite a nice white head.

Smells quite yeasty and fresh.

Tastes quite malty and yeasty with quite a significant peppery hop taste.

Overall a very good example of the style, tasty and not watery unlike some.

Apperance- a see thru brighter yellow with a thin very think white small head

smell- i could smell a lil bit of malts but it was tough to come by

taste- the taste was lacking and kinda of watery

mouthful- lil carbonation and watery

overall- not a choice of mine to buy, my father recommended and he likes it but im not a fan

Light golden colour with lots of bubbles & a huge foamy white head with outstanding retention & some lacing on the glass.

Skunky metallic aroma along with a lot a grain. There is also some subtle grassy hops & some malts but grain seems to feature the most.

Matches the smell quite closely with lots of grain featuring in the taste as well. There is some grassy hops & the addition of a sweet sort of lemony taste to it that isn’t in the smell.

Light to medium & the beer has an overall fluffy feel to it that is different to most beers out there. Not so much great but certainly different & enjoyable enough. There is also plenty of carbonation without being overly gassy.

I'm rather disappointed in this one really, I think I managed to build it up to much in my head before trying it & ultimately I was going to be disappointed. Not a bad beer, just bad by German standards.

Pretty much everything you want out of a helles. Golden color with a nice white head, pleasant smell. It has a smooth, rich malty taste with a suprise of noble hoppiness. This is the kind of Helles that doesn't need special attributes, it is just tasty and high-quality, nothing else needs to be said.Gotta drink it fresh.

.5L, best before the end of October 2011. Labeled "Lager Hell" but I'm sure it's the same beer as this listing.

Pours a light, clear gold with a nice frothy head. Decent retention, some lacing.

The aroma is quite metallic, with a whiff of grains and raw hay.

The flavor is much better thankfully. Clean, smooth grain flavors and light hop bitterness. Touch of tangy fruit, some green apple. Aftertaste has a bit of metallic minerality to it, pretty negligible. Carbonation is medium-low. Very soft and easy to drink overall.

Not hugely impressed by this one, mainly because of the aroma. Drinkable though. Another average Helles from a great Bavarian brewery.

Reviewing from Notes. I had this beer during Oktoberfest 2010 in Munich. An amazing experience.
Serving type: Served on draft at the Ayinger Haus across from Hoffbrau

A - Nice and clear. Not a whole lot to note. True to style. Huge white head much of a head that stays with you throughout the beer.

S - Slight yeast notes and maybe some floral notes. Really subtle if any..

T - Nice and Crisp. One thing I noticed immediately was the lack of yeast notes. It was really fresh but didn't taste unfinished and too young like the wheat at Hacker. This might be a batch to batch issue. Not a whole lot of citrus or hop but defiantly present. Not a lot of huge flavors on this but true to style and easy to drink.

M - Light body not a whole lot of note. Mid to Low carbonation.

D - This is just a personal thing but I find this to sit heavy on my stomach. They drink really well as they are light and crisp but for some reason I didn't find myself wanting more than one.

Serving type - Bottle

A - Pours a clear, golden hue, with a big, 3 finger or so white, fluffy head that persists for a bit, and leaves moderate lacing.

S - Smell is of mixed grains, honey, a hint of lemon, and lightly grassy/floral hops. All pretty subtle and balanced.

T - Taste is nearly identical to the smell. Various grains with an almost bready texture to it. Semi-sweet honey-ish malt character, balanced with a hint of lemon and hops. Pretty basic flavor profile, but well done.

M - Light-medium bodied, yet has a nice, fluffy mouthfeel to it. Medium carbonation.

D - This has all the elements of a good session beer, so it scores well here.

Overall - A pretty nice Munich Helles lager, and a solid basic offering from an otherwise outstanding brewery. Prost!

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is wheat and grain. Not bad, but not too exciting. The flavor is grain, corn and wheat. The beer is semi-sweet. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

From the cask at the Ayinger Brau Haus across from Hofbrau

Straw-golden in color. Creamy, long lasting head but only moderately thick.

Balanced malty aroma with typical german hops, but not many. Slight hints of caramel, unexpected from such a lager.

Excellent malty/bitter balance. Caramel from the aroma persists in the smell. Mild hints of sulfur typical in a lager.

Creamy texture that lingers.

Easy drinking, and begged for more, but I had other beers to try.

Overall, I would drink this again and recommend it.

Got this at The Cracked Kettle in Amsterdam.

From a bottle into a beer glass.

APPEARANCE: Pours a big three finger medium-thinner looking white head with good retention. Pillow-like and fluffy. Perfectly crystal clear golden yellow in color with medium carbonation evident in the form of big bubbles. Thin foam cap remains a leaves a bit of bubbly lacing. Later on, minimal cap remains and leaves no lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Big nose of grainy sweet malt, some rye bread tones and some flowery hops. Nice nose on this one.

TASTE: Sweet grainy malt up front with some rye bread as well. Floral hops through the middle into the finish and a long bitter-sweet floral aftertaste is quite bold and makes a presence. A relatively bitter finish on this one for the style. Not bad.

PALATE: Medium body and carbonation and a little watery on the palate. Goes down fine and finishes crisp, but not quite full and creamy enough as it could be. Average feel.

OVERALL: A good beer for sure. The look and feel were kind of average, but the rest of it was very enjoyable. Another solid offering from Ayinger.

I drank this straight out of the destillery in Aying at the Brewery, ice-cold, unfiltered. It was quite a sensation to behold our tour guide saw I liked it so much he kept pouring me more helpings. I could not stop drinking it it was that good. It was light yellow with a huge head and an aroma that the smelled pure, clean and and destinctive of hops. the taste was that of a perfect Helles beer, no after taste on the taste of the beer remained. It was very bubbly, yet it was at the same time smooth and went down without any problem. One could drink this beer alone or, with almost any kind of food. This was the best beer I ever tasted. If you are ever in Munich, I recommend a visit to Aying, its only a 25-30 min ride on the S-Bahn and the tour of the brewery is exceptional, and you can drink as much beer as you can for the tour price!!

Appearnce: Very light yellow, clear, with a fluffy off whtie head and decent retention. Nice lacing on the glass as it is consumed.

Smell: Dry malty aroma with some sweetness.

Taste: Malty, light hop bitterness in the middle, watery and malty ending with a light bread aftertaste.
