Pours a brilliant bright red color with a big bright white head. The aroma is loaded with citrus. The taste is a wonderful blend of citrusy hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and amply carbonated. Overall, this is a great IPA. One of the best I've had to date.

Had on tap at the Oaken Barrel Brewing Company's restaurant/brewpub, Monday, April 6th, 2009.

Came to the table a very nice dark copper color, becoming lighter as you looked down the glass, with some very nice head and lacing. Very deep scent, strong hops with a light hint of malt, mostly pine in the aroma. Deep hop flavor, hits the tongue right away; strong citrus hop start, finishing with a strong pin hop finish; the bitterness stays in the mouth a long time, with just enough malt balance to keep it from being too much. Goes down well, smooth and crisp, with just a tiny iota of initial harshness at each drink. An excellent IPA.

Poured from a growler into a tulip glass. The beer comes out a amberish golden color wtih 2 fingers of head that fall to a finger that won't leave. The nose is full on grapefruit hop, with a caramel background, maybe a touch of biscuit as well. The taste is nice. Its almost a combination IPA APA. There is a lot of good citrus hop in there, but also a touch of the dirty hop I want in an APA. What a nice beer. The feel is moderate to thick, with a medium carbonation that makes it nice. The drinkability is pretty good on this one as well. I really like this beer. I read on the website that they may be offering this beer year round soon. That would be a good addition.

Enjoyed on tap at Rich O's near Louisville KY. Excited to see it available, even more excited after sampling my first sip. Very citrusy and spruce-ey to the nose with a maple syrup malt aroma behind. Flavors allow the sweet vanilla and caramel malt to remain noticable, but allows the hop flavor to dominate--going from grapefruits and oranges to grass-ey and pine-ey with some mild spices thrown in--ginger and pepper. Bittered for effect, but without that 'bite' in the back of the throat. Sweetly pronounced alcohol doesn't create a drying sensation, rather lands a juicy moistness to the mouth. Very easy drinking for such large hop flavor. Good job Oaken Barrel!

I picked this up yesterday at their brewery in Greenwood. The girl there always does a great job of filling my growlers all the way up the neck. Nice people there and good food, check them out.

Appearance: Nice light amber color, quite orange like. Actually, the describe it as "Scarlet orange". You can just tell this one is sticky as you're pouring it. This starts out with a thick white frothy head; one that I probably caused to be too large as I let it out of the growler too fast. It died down over time but maintained enough head to leave a nice lacing on my glass.

Smell: Strong floral hops in the nose. The smell of the Super Fly let's you know you're in for a sweet, sticky treat. Many people tell me they get a grainy malty smell out of this more than hops but I disagree. I can pick out the floral, citrusy hop as being the predominant flavor rising out of this.

Taste: Very bitter up front with a nice mellow sweetness following. The finish is even more bitterness. You can tell they packed the tank with hops on this one. If you're a hop head you will not be disappointed by this. If you don't like hops then you should steer clear! The sweetness that comes through is the malt that they have in there although it almost seems like there should be a little more to balance the massive amounts of hops. But then again it wouldn't be a hop heads dream if they did that! To be transparent with you I've had this beer before... many times. It's my typical Thursday $5 growler refill choice at the OB and one I enjoy several times a month. When I share this with friends who have before claimed themselves as hop heads they thought this beer was way too hoppy and way too offensive to their palate. Unfortunately this may have ruined them because they're stock on darker lagers and browns. Don't let that steer you away though! Stop in for a pint today!

Mouth feel: Thick and sticky. A sticky lingering actually hangs out around your mouth as if you just ate some hop pancakes with hop syrup on them. Cold hop syrup at that ;) This is the exact kind of mouthfeel a hop head would enjoy.

Drinkability: It's pretty easy to sit back and knock down a half gallon of this. The 7.5% ABV however may have you second guessing that choice. "May" ;) Just know that after one or two of these you probably shouldn't drive. Other than that drink up, not you typical session beer but one that you can have several pints of before going to bed being ready to move on to the next style.

Thanks to John for the kind hook-up.

Clear, copper with a rocky eggshell cap that leaves plenty of crusty lace on the glass. The aroma is excellent with plenty of piney and citrusy hop notes with some caramel cube malt. Big, fresh hop flavors of pine sap, grapefruit rind and a tobacco-like spiciness with a toasty caramel malt backbone. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. I dig this beer and I believe that the brewers at OB are really starting to get the beer flavor dialed in on this one, this may very well be the best IPA from Indy.

Poured from growler....thanks for this surprise Lukafer!

A- Poured a light hazed golden copper color. One finger white head that has terrible retention and dies down almost as soon as it rised. Nice sticky lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- Nice floral hops in the front end of the aroma. Some light caramel malts mixed in with a light toast aroma. Some light citrus and piney hops toward the backend of the beer.

T- Nice bitter hop bite with a light floral hop in the front end. Good caramel malt backbone under the hops with a hint of toast. Citrus hop in the middle turns into a big bitter hop bite on the backend. Alcohol is a apparent on the ending but the bitter hops kill it off.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation was a little lacking but nothing that made or breaked the beer. Hops and more hops crushed the palate and well into the aftertaste. Drying on the palate with each sip. Flavors overall were blended well but still a little one sided with all the bitter hops.

D- This was a interesting beer that I enojyed a lot. Oaken Barrel seemed to be a little lack luster to me but this beer has given me a new hope with them. Very good and I shouldn't have split the growler because I was sad once it was gone.
