I received this beer as part of a beer swap. Not being familiar with much of Oaken Barrel's work, I did not have high expectations.

The IPA poured a copper color with a white head. The beer left lacing in the glass and showed measured retention. Hello IPA! A balance aroma of mildly fruity hoppiness enticed the senses. The initial taste was a citrus fruit explosion. Grapefruit, pineapple, and a hint of peach gave a pleasant fruit taste. The hops, which were not overly burdensome, were mild yet resiny. The beer becomes progressively more bitter with each sip. In the aftertaste, the bitterness continues with Earthy notes becoming more detectable. The mouthfeel was just thick enough to allow the taste to linger before being brushed away by a mild level of carbonation.

Overall, this is a well-balance and enjoyable IPA. I would love to try this one fresh on-tap.

Tried this beer during a visit to the Oaken Barrel. Pours a light amber color with a moderate head and decent lacing and leaves a little lacing on the glass. The aroma has a little caramel, and some pine and grapefruit hints. The taste was a good push of malt with good tones of hops towards the back end. It is a nice hybrid between a true English IPA and its Western counterparts. The mouthfeel is medium to full with subtle carbonation. Very good beer.

On tap at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis.

Served in a shaker pint, the beer is dark copper with a skim of off-white head. Sheets of lacing as you work your way through the beer.

It has an aroma of pine and caramel malts. It is an old school inviting smell.

Nicely bitter, some pine based bitterness some semi sweet malts for balance. I liked how the bitterness becomes more concentrated mid glass.

It is slightly oily and a bit mouth coating.

All-in-all, a solid ipa that hits the right notes for me.

Had this on tap at Chumley's in Lafayette, Indiana. Notes recorded at time of consumption.

Came to me a deep golden to almost amber hue. Huge head, mostly frothy with good retention and great lacing. Smell was very faint for the style. All hops in the scent, but very diluted. Main component is a big floral burst.

By taste, I was surprised to learn this was not a DIPA. It's a hop bomb, but gets somewhat balanced out by a malt base layer. Very bready after an initial wrecking of taste buds by the hops. Ended with a bite and lingering bitterness. Very carbonated and fairly light for the weight of the flavor and alcohol. Very sessionable.

Overall, I wasn't terribly impressed, but I wasn't disappointed. Great to see a solid brew from somewhat local Hoosier state brewery.

Some complex hop notes - tremendously floral, with clover blossom and honeysuckle aroma, overlaying some reserved citrus flavor. Moderate malt, a little sharp and acidic toward the finish, which was clean. Overall this is nicely done and quite drinkable.

Smell is full of hops and citrus.
Taste is very bitter on the front it but smooth and very drinkable.
Mouthfeel of nice carbonation along with bitterness of the beer.
Has the appearance of a double IPA and could almost be classified as such.

Excellent IPA.

Thanks to John for the kind hook-up.

Clear, copper with a rocky eggshell cap that leaves plenty of crusty lace on the glass. The aroma is excellent with plenty of piney and citrusy hop notes with some caramel cube malt. Big, fresh hop flavors of pine sap, grapefruit rind and a tobacco-like spiciness with a toasty caramel malt backbone. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. I dig this beer and I believe that the brewers at OB are really starting to get the beer flavor dialed in on this one, this may very well be the best IPA from Indy.

Poured from growler....thanks for this surprise Lukafer!

A- Poured a light hazed golden copper color. One finger white head that has terrible retention and dies down almost as soon as it rised. Nice sticky lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- Nice floral hops in the front end of the aroma. Some light caramel malts mixed in with a light toast aroma. Some light citrus and piney hops toward the backend of the beer.

T- Nice bitter hop bite with a light floral hop in the front end. Good caramel malt backbone under the hops with a hint of toast. Citrus hop in the middle turns into a big bitter hop bite on the backend. Alcohol is a apparent on the ending but the bitter hops kill it off.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation was a little lacking but nothing that made or breaked the beer. Hops and more hops crushed the palate and well into the aftertaste. Drying on the palate with each sip. Flavors overall were blended well but still a little one sided with all the bitter hops.

D- This was a interesting beer that I enojyed a lot. Oaken Barrel seemed to be a little lack luster to me but this beer has given me a new hope with them. Very good and I shouldn't have split the growler because I was sad once it was gone.

Appearance is a hazy golden color, with an off-white head. I smell some sweet malts and some pine hops. Taste some malt at the front, a little hop in the middle then an extremely bitter, but in a good way, finish. Mouthfeel is sticky, medium carbonation. Drinkability is good, good if you're a hophead. If you don't like hops/bitter beers, stay away from this one. I enjoyed and think they should bottle it, it would instantly be their best seller, IMHO. Again, a really good beer, will definitely drink again and again.

Growler courtesy of asl187

A: Deep amber near ruby color with good clarity, great webbed lace. the head is good but not great

S: Mostly floral followed by some herbal grassy hops. No citrus really aside from grapefruit and then some pine. there is also some caramel and toasted characteristics

T: Wow this is bitter. Definitely much more towards the english style IPA but it is drinking a pine cone. There is also plenty of bitter grapefruit notes and some caramel character. I do enjoy heavily hopped beers but this one could use a bit more balance

M: Good body and clean feel, no heat and it goes down pretty easy.

D: I am glad i have a friend to help me with the growler because a second glass was all could handle
