Found this in the store, did some reasearch and found it is a Spezial Helles made during Christmas.
POurs a deep golden tan color, light orange tints, high carbonation produces a light, foamy head. Settles quickly. Can't help but to think this looks very much like a summer evening beer, not something when it is -6 out.
Smell is dominated by sweet malt. Light sweet bready, hint of citrus, orange, finishes with a mineral sharpness and a touch of bitter hops. Not overly complex, but nonetheless a clean, balanced Helles.
Flavor falls a bit short of expectation. Malty again, but overly watery. The citrus in the smells only comes through ever-so-slightly. Bready malt dominates, a small bit of hops, but really subdued. Mineral in the finish makes a pleasantly sharp biting finish.
I expected a bit more for a "king's christmas beer", but I think this is a one-timer for me. The beer is simply one-note, really lacking the sparkling acidity and biting hops fond in so many other of these styles. The best part is the finish,as it snaps the beer into another flavor spectrum after unspetacular flavor.
A very light Helles, if not searching for anything complicated or complex, check it out if you can, but don't believe Ive ever seen this one stateside.
