Thick, black, and intense. The head is blanket-like, with a tan color. The aroma is lightly smokey, but with a hint of medicinal notes...peat for sure. Not quite campfire, but it's definitely a smokey peat smell. The taste is balanced, with a heavily roasted grain and malt flavor. Medium sweetness with a strongly bitter and alcohol finish. This is a wonderfully interesting and engaging brew.

11.2 ounce bottle (label says 11.2% ABV), I can't tell what the bottled on/best by stamp on the bottle cap says. Maybe they should stamp the label or bottle instead. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that stayed around for a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like peaty smoke, roasted malt, caramel and some chocolate. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma but I think the peaty flavor is stronger compared to the others, and there's also some dark fruit noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good imperial stout, I'd like to try it again. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes peaty brews. $5.99 a bottle.

Pours a black color. 1/2 inch head of a brown color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of alcohol, strong sweet malt, slight roasted malt, hint of liquor, hops, and slight wood. Fits the style of a Russian Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of alcohol, strong sweet malt, slight roasted malt, hint of liquor, hops, and slight wood. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, feel, and blend.

Pours a black body with one-finger khaki head and lace patches down glass. Dry, smokey, peet-like taste yet has a touch of sticky sweetness that resembles bitter chocolate. Balanced beer with both a really dry aspect that is kept in check by sweet aspects.

330 ml bottle served at the appropriate temperature in a goblet.

Unmistakable peat-smoke in the aroma and flavor, and it dominates the aftertaste. I too often find smoked ales to be too smoky, but this one is not. Certainly this is due in part to the rich, malty imperial stout basis. Although prominent, the smoked grains still allow notes of chocolate, coffee, toffee, and dark dried fruits to appear. Relatively hoppy, with earthy tones. Lightly boozy in a way that works well with the strong flavor profile.

Feel: Full, lightly carbonated, oily body. Well hidden alcohol.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass.

Light touched very tan like head, a finger top height off the pour. Sits on a very solid nearly black body, a touch of clarity through the head, and some dark brown highlights. Settles to a big bubbled collar, and a bit of a thin top.

Very solid nice dark roast. Hints of soil and a touch of earthy sweetness of all things. Aroma inches towards a little bit of licorice but settles towards softer dark malts and a small sense of smoke. Creamy. Hop oil sensing. Very inviting and warming bouquet.

Boy is this palate ever delivering. Creamy and velvety, with a light touch of hop warmth and bitterness. Dark chocolate, and rich velvety chocolate flavors just float off the tongue like a big fat rich cake. Soft finish, with roast qualities that hit to warming tobacco but with a much sweeter character and less bitterness. A nice oily sheen, that coats the mouth nicely and even gives a little bit of hop bitterness balance. Creamy, decadent, with rich malt and oily flavors.

A real great solid stout. Wonderfully made. Looses a bit of smoke character, but the final product is too good to even care about.

Opaque black, thin head, low retention.
Smell - tad too sweet, smoked, other imperial stout attributes.
Taste - follows the smell, sweetness outbalances and overwhelmes.
Medium body, soft carbonation.

Sweet molasses and peat is what you get here. Smooth chocolaty body, medium-to-full-feel, mild carbonation, and a bit of stickiness. The roasted dark malts are accented with hoppy and herbal, slightly medicinal notes, and hint of something like salty, smoky seaweed. Probably not for all tastes, and not priced to attract the casual consumer, but as a fan of imperial stouts and peaty Scotch whiskies, I enjoyed it.

Bottle:
Thick black pour. Brown head fizzles up from the depths, but also gasps at the air once reaching the surface. Nice rush of coating bubbles on glass with each agitation of the beer - even supplying a little lacing.

Nose is quiet. Definitely get the peat and a light smokiness. Everything seems on point but quite muted - roasted malt, char, smokiness, peat, little coffee.

Feel is great - creamy and coating. Carbonation adds the lightest tingle - accentuating the smokey notes.

Taste has a backbone that tends towards a sweetened coffee, to me. There is a light nuttiness to the coffee, like maybe one of those medium roast blends, but there is a little sweetness that accentuates the coffee more in my mind. Again, this is the backbone, and on top of it is a bit of char and the peat that is a part of the brew.

Pretty straightforward in that the name of the beer explains it pretty well. It is a well done brew in which I think the mouthfeel really lifted my overall enjoyment considerably.

As usual a good beer from Brouwerij Kees. Good dark color that comes back in the flavor. A good peaty and smokey taste to it. Allround a good beer. Enjoyed it.
