Notes: A winter beer of that is one big tasty treat: coffee, lots of alcohol and intense caramel.

Got this one from doopie on my birthday. Cheers dude!

From a bottle into a snifter
EBC: 75
EBU: 45
Malts: Pale, caramel and chocolate
Hops: Cascade and Summit

APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a 2+ finger, thicker and creamier looking, light tan head with excellent retention. Transparent black body with no carbonation evident. Head very slowly recedes to a full creamy cap and clings to the glass as it recedes. Splotchy wisp remains leaving lots of nice lacing down the glass. Great head but perhaps a little too transparent for the style.

SMELL: Bold nose of caramel fudge for sure, some vanilla, milk chocolate, butterscotch and cotton candy. Very candy-like and advertises sweetness all over the place.

TASTE: Caramel fudge up front with butterscotch at the swallow as well. Milk chocolate and vanilla linger in the finish, with a bold and lingering finish of caramel fudge, butterscotch, milk chocolate, sweet vanilla, some bitter coffee notes and roasted flavors. Flavorful finish and lots going on, with some definite alcohol in there as well. Sweet with some bitter roasted qualities linger and linger.

PALATE: Medium-full body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes somewhat mouth-coating. Some bitterness and alcohol lingers.

OVERALL: This is pretty good and is as advertised, but I think it’s a little too boozy for what it’s trying to do. I think if the ABV were brought down to 8% or so, it would allow all the flavors to shine without having that boozy finish. Still, this is a good looking brew, though it could be a touch darker, and delivers what it promises. Good stuff and I’m glad I got to try it. Kees has certainly moved on in the right direction. Give it a chance if you see it. Cheers Doops!

if you like dessert stouts, this one should be right in your wheelhouse, but for me, it was much too sweet, almost over the top and diabetic with the prevalence of chocolate and caramel flavor in here, and i think it comes at the expense of a pretty nice base stout, although its tough to tell with all the sweetness swimming around in here. i had this on tap in a small pour, and be advised that small doses are probably best here, unless you have a superhuman tolerance for refined sugars. pretty beer though, tar black from the tap and frothy with a dark tan head on it, holds well too, and there is a lot of viscosity. they were smart to make this so strong, i think the alcohol (which you can really smell and taste) does a lot to bring the chocolate to the front, and it almost tastes like one of those godiva chocolate liqueurs. the caramel is the part that throws it over the edge for me, its almost buttery and overly vanilla tasting, too rich to have much of, and it pushes the dark roasted barley bitterness to the back when more of it is needed for any semblance of balance. i get some almost burnt notes here, and appreciate the base stout trying to peak through. for my personal tastes, this is way over flavored, but i like the flavors, its just too much of them. big old body here, sticky feel but still with some carbonation, long finish, well made for what it is without question, the quality is not up for debate. more of a novelty for me though at this intensity. still fun to try.

Had at the Copenhagen Beer Fest in Boston. Highlight of the fest for me. Absolutely phenomenal brew. Just a hint of caramel that makes you want more. High alcohol content, so be careful if you like caramel. :)

33cl bottle. Pours an almost dark ruby, with a fine beige head that is slow to rise to the surface. Tons of caramel fudge in the aroma, toffee and vanilla. The taste is more complex than that, with notes of caramel followed by espresso, cocoa, vanilla. The alcohol is a bit too present, generating a hot and spicy feeling that affects the mouthfeel, and kind of stops the other notes from lingering a bit more, but other than that it's a great imperial stout, a bit rough around the edges.

Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma has brown sugar, a bit burnt, sweet caramel, some dried fruits and butterscotch candy. Taste is sweet and sugary at first but gets more balanced towards the finish with light roasted malt notes but still lingers with brown sugar flavor. Medium body with low carbonation. Quite tasty but it lacks some depth and mouthfeel.
