Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt, with a strong, dark, bitter chocolate aroma and lighter notes of coffee, tobacco and oak, with a certain sharp boozy edge. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by roasted, caramel malt, dark, bitter chocolate and a prominent, sharp, boozy edge, as well as lighter notes of brown sugar, coffee, tobacco, leather and rum-soaked oak, as well as just a hint of coconut, vanilla and dark fruits: fig, raisin. Finishes quite boozy, with a light bitterness and some roasted malt, coffee and chocolate lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

The rum barrel-aging really comes through beautifully here, even though I'm personally not a huge fan of those brown-sugar, coconut and sharp booze notes it imparts. However, the booziness really isn't as bad as I've noticed it in other RBA beers and there is a really nice, oaky woodiness to this as well. Not to mention that the base beer has quite a nice complexity and balance of sweet, bitter and roasted notes to it, as well as bringing to mind rum-soaked, chocolate covered raisins in combination with the barrel-aging. A very well put together beer, although not necessarily to my personal taste.
