Red DragonRed Dragon
Notes: Our Belgian Quad (Silence of the Hams) has been lurking in Chianti Barrels for the past year and is ready to emerge as Red Dragon this Halloween season. This is the biggest beer we've ever made-- and it's so smooth, it's SCARY.

Bottle from the Packie
Lightly hazy dark brown with faint garnet edges and a small bubbly off white head that recedes. Toasty caramel and dark dried fruits with a bit of alcohol and sherry like oxidation.

From the waxed, capped 500 ml. bottle dated October 2020. Sampled on Nov 8, 2020.

Gorgeous looking beer. Dark brown pour withy ruby red highlights and a modest, fading tan head.

The aroma has a hint of melted chocolate but it veers more toward molasses, red grape, dark fruit, and a little body. The nearly 12% ABV is well-buried in the aroma.

Medium to full body.

The taste tends to lean toward the fruit more than anything else but not a lot in the way of Belgian-style spices. Still a delight in its own way. No alcohol in the taste.

Stopped by Rockingham today with Alewife and Caitlin to try this new release. We all love Quads, so it was a no-brainer... A 12oz pour (or 2 or 3... !!) was $8.00.

Bier is a deep but clear garnet... dark, ruby... lovely color! Head is thin, fine and creamy, a layer of beige bubbles clinging to the rim. Lacing is a bit on the light side, though. Aroma has a strong lean to the chianti side, with the Quaddish dark fruit also present. Body is a nice medium, with decent smoothness.

Flavor also has chianti notes... lots of vinous character here... the regular Ham is a bit dryer... dark fruit - raisins, dates, prunes - are also present, with some candi-sugar. A verry nice brew, indeed! Prosit!!
