Style: American Pale Wheat Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Cameron’s Sirius Wheat Ale is our interpretation of the American wheat ale style. It is brewed with Canadian malted wheat and two row malted barley and newest breed specialty hops. This all-natural, unpasteurized, unfiltered wheat ale has a distinct citrusy aroma and a taste that is quite quaffable. Light, rounded, thirst quenching, and refreshing; Sirius Wheat Ale is perfect for the blazing, warm days of fall or all year long.

On tap at the Rhino, into a pint glass.

Lightly cloudy golden yellow, with a dense white cap of head. Good laving and plenty of retention. Quite hoppy on the nose, lots of citrus/lemon type notes and wheat wafts from this. More citrus, wheat, pale malts and light peppery spice on the palate, quite bitter and drying. Lighter medium body, on the lower end of things in terms of carbonation. A decent APWA, but Sawdust City's Golden Beach takes the cake in this category for Ontario brewers.

Lightly hazy golden blonde colour, ring of white head, little lace as well. Smell is malty bread and grains followed by a great deal of hops, citrusy with lots of grapefruit and mango. Taste also starts off with biscuity malt and then opens up with some dry hop flavours, bits of fruit and citrus, mild to moderate bitterness, biscuity and wheaty in finish and aftertaste. Medium carbonation, medium body with a fairly drying mouthfeel. This was a solid drinking pale wheat, nice hop profile and easily drinkable and perhaps even more so in the warmer months instead of November.

Bottle purchased at brewery last week-end lists 4.2% ABV on the label, making this a very pleasant, light summer ale.

Must have been filtered prior to bottling, as it pours a clear and bright golden colour with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is wheat-forward with citrus undertones. The citrus in the aroma was much more pronounced in the bottle I sampled at the brewery, so either there is some variability or I purchased an unlucky 6.

However the flavour redeems some of the American "c" hop qualities, with a sweet start moving quickly into a citrus and pepper finish. An impressive level of bitterness lingers for a decent time. Not quite at the level of Miami Weiss or Golden Beach, but definitely in the same league...
