Draft. Pours a hazy Amber color. Aroma is piney and grapefruit you and grassy with a caramel maltiness. The nose is hop forward but I detect a reasonable malt backing. Flavor is hops at first with a sneaky maltiness that saunters in as the hops start to acclimate. I would say that the hop bill is pretty distinct but I don't think the malt jives with the greens. Surprised by the lighter ABV. The most impressive aspect of this beer is that it has much more body than you'd expect.

Re-review 6/1/216
Paler than the previous batch that I reviewed. Slightly hazy golden color, 1.5 finger head decent retention.
Aroma is sweet grapefruit, passionfruit, a bit sticky smelling
Flavor is a lovely mix of grapefruit, fruit punch, pine, slightly dank and resinous, finishes with a nice crackery malt quality.
Very flavorful, not over bitter or watery, which are common flaws with this style of beer.
WAY better than the last time I had this. Awesome job DTR.

Original Review: April 2015:
Pours clear amber, smells a bit of tropical fruit from the mosaic, but the chinook and caramel malt tend to dominate. Piney, with a bit of sweet caramely crackery malt. Tastes a bit sweet up front with a firm, almost astringent bitterness finishing. Piney again, though the mosaic helps keep things from devolving into a standard c-hop flagship APA. Not bad by any means, but needs a bit of tweaking to stand out in an increasingly crowded field.

A - Beautiful, slightly hazy dark gold body with a huge off white head that leaves heavy lacing.
S - Initial whiff is burnt toffee. Subsequent smells are some piney hops, but I am not detecting much from the mosaic.
T - More balanced than the aroma. PIney hops, ever so slight citrus. Nice malt backbone, How I would expect a pale ale to taste. Can't believe this is only 4.5% abv.
M - Medium body, medium carb. Finished bitter and dry.
O - A very nice pale ale from one of the newest breweries in MA. I would recommend if you see it somewhere. Maybe not something to go out of your way for though. I am looking forward to trying their other offerings.

Not a bad American pale ale. I’d drink it again if someone handed me one but nothing I’d go out of my way to find.

look pale golden, a lot of big bubbles, almost no head, film stays on top of beer, leaves minimal lacing
smell; mild, a nice balance of piney and citrusy hops with a whiff of ... cheap lager smell, just a hint
taste; bitterer than the nose would indicate, hints of citrus and grapefruit balanced nicely by malty bready goodness, a little sharp but almost just right, could be a bitter.
feel; medium light bodied, medium carbonation, moderate pucker factor, good all around
overall a solid pale ale on the bitter end of the spectrum, maybe a tiny bit light on body

Pours clear, amber in color, with 1/2 inch head. Taste is caramel, leafy and citrus hops. There is a distinct orange taste. Light bodied and slightly bitter. very easy drinker and another impressive beer from Down the Road.

16 oz can dated 11/3/16 (5 months old)

Pours slightly hazy orange color. Thin pillow head. Aroma is muddled - a bit malty but some citrus notes. Taste is bright with a weak but flavorful malt backbone. Vaguely citrus hop flavor along with moderate to high bitterness. A bit of sweetness in the finish. Feel is clean with the low malt. Overall it is a good beer. It has a nice balance between hop and malt against a crisp clean backdrop.

First tried this at a bottle waxing party at the brewery in Everett, which was fun by the way. Perhaps my review is higher than the average here due to the freshness; or maybe it is just personal preference-I love this beer and wouldn't change a thing. It definitely has a more noticeable malt profile than many other pale ales, which gives it more depth of flavor, but it still has the hoppy goodness.

P-Poured from a 16 oz can,into a Funky Buddha snifter.Canned on 03/27/17.

L- Soapy white colored head that stands one finger width tall, with very good retention and fragmented lacing.Slightly hazy gold colored body with moderate clarity, and distorted light showing through the glass.Very high amount of carbonation.

S- On the nose I get mostly citra hops balanced by a nice presence or caramel malt notes.Slight bready characteristics as well.

T- The palate follows the nose with Citra hops up front, caramel malt in the middle, and a bready yeast aftertaste.

F- The mouth feel is thin and prickly, with a dry finish.

O- This is a pretty standard APA.Nothing too fancy, but still a drinkable Pale Ale.I would drink it again, and if you like APA's I would recommend giving it a try.
