Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Old Heathen (8% ABV) is a truly distinctive stout. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Old Heathen Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex. Perhaps you’ll even discern notes of espresso or chocolate.

Love the name of this beer and it was the label the drew me to it. The name fits the color, very dark, black with a thick head formation. The head is tan with mostly small bubbles. After a few sips the head begins to dissipate.

The nose is sweet malty to start. It took some deeper nose dives to get a good nose but roasted notes became prominent as the beer heated.

The taste is where this beer shines, which is great, it starts roasted with a slight carbonation, the roasted flavor continues as a malty sweetness comes to the front. The malt taste is of dark chocolate silky smooth. The taste finishes with a dry but not bitterness with a slight amount of alcohol.

The mouth is smooth with a noticeable alcohol numb on the tongue. If you let enough time sit between the numb continues to feel on the throat it is very nice makes the next sip seem that much different.

Bottled 10/27/14; drank 12/27/14 @ the Charleston.

Black hue.

Minimal dark tan head; almost no lace.

Black licorice & candle wax nose.

Thick mouthfeel.

Caramel, candle wax & fresh earth flavors.

Rich & earthy; worth a winter's night quaff.

De beergium. En copa Teku. Viendo The Society 1x09-10. Cuerpo ligero, notas herbales algo fuera de lugar y ligera acidez. Sin estar mala, se hecha en falta mas sabor y complejidad

Another notable offering from Weyerbacher, a favorite brewer indeed...

I'm surprised to find this listed as retired when I picked up the bottle just a month ago (with several on the shelf). Anyway, not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised by this brew. Out of the glass it pours a beautifully dark stout though there is little head or lacing to mention. That's about the cons on this beer. From a smell perspective it is malty, boozy, and sweet to the nose - exceptional. The feel is carbonation blended with a cream texture that became more prominent as the beer warmed. The taste as I would expect followed the smell - malty, boozy, and a slight sweet touch. Overall, it might be the best Weyerbacher I've had and it's definitely one of the better imperial stouts I have experienced.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a goblet. Bottled in 2014, found this sitting in the back of my fridge. Lets see how it held up.

Pours a pretty oily, inkjet body with a one finger brown head that reduces quickly to leave no lacing and a ring of retention.

Aromas of dark fruits, chocolate, sweet cocoa, a little cardboard. Taste is sweet, dark fruits, roasty, chocolate syrup, some coffee, slightly charred on the finish. Body is medium with medium low carbonation.

I'd say it held up, this was decent.
