Serving from a 12 oz. bottle.

Color is an attractive murky apricot copper Lacing is negligible.
Flavor profile. Overall, I would agree with others here -
Flavors of fig, spice, but particularly carmel, toffee, and molasses. The richness is nicely counterbalanced with spices and cherries that were soaked in oak caskets of rum and bourbon!
And to give it a strong keel of balance, there is plenty of malt and biscuit to keep this ship of Idiot's on an even course. The strong rum aroma and flavor is due from the 11.1 % alcohol!

I really don't know why reviewers go to so much detail about the analysis. And spend so little time on their conclusion. What's important is the individual perspective, not a dissertation on their analysis of the flavor profile. Are we all engineers here? The real question is - how does the ship sail?

There is so much to like in this beer.
Third. Can't believe this beer scored so low.
Probably because it lists so hard to starboard with the all the rum caskets the "Blithering Idiots" brought on board.

No, there are very little hop flavors, even as an avid IPA fan... I don't need yet another IPAish Barleywine. That's been done - to the point of boredom. So.. so what.
This is a Barleywine with no apologies. An over the top Barleywine.
The high alcohol does prevent it from being "drinkable".. So.. so what.

This beer is tremendous. It has a personality and flavor density unlike any other I've tried. It is absolutely a blithering idiot with its exceptionally strong rum notes paired with cherries and toffee.
Highly drinkable? NOPE.
Absolutely delicious? YEP.

Congratulations Weyerbacher. This is a fantastic beer and a category leader of Barleywine
Ales from my boat. If you get a chance... this same beer is available as "INSANITY" on DRAFT. Which is Blithering Idiot - aged in Oak Bourbon caskets. Just what this already over the top rum / bourbon Barley Wine Beer doesn't need - but who cares? It's INSANITY.

Blithering Idiot's over the top lunacy is endearing to me. Yes, this beer "colors outside the lines" of a traditional Barleywine. But so what, so does Dragons Milk, Night Tripper and other beers that dare to venture into a very strong flavor personality. You either love it or you don't.
I love it.

Ba Review #218
Served On: 09/07/2012
Glassware: Duvel Glass
Labeled ABV: 11.1%
Date/ Code: 02/14/12

This was from a mixed case from Brewskies of New Oxford, PA ($52.99).

Look: Poured with an initial 2-finger off white head that instantly dissolved into a thin lace. The brew was a clear copper with some orange highlights. Slow and steady carbonation bubbles rose upward.

Smell: The aroma lended a sweet ripe cherries and some green apple. Also some Rum-soaked dark fruits mixed with some alcohol spice.

Taste: First up was a sweet rum-soaked fig with the middle bringing ripe orchard fruits. The finish was a heavy malt biscuit and some alcohol warmth that coated the entire mouth and throat with each swallow.

This was a solid Barley-Wine Ale with some of the typical qualities one would expect. I was a little disappointed with the lack of hop character - probably due to the English theam. I guess SN Bigfoot has me spoiled.
