Poured from a bottle into a Belgian goblet. Thin slightly off-white head. Body is an amber color with light brown hues. Alcohol lacing/legs are there but not quite as much as a traditional Belgian strong dark ale. No haze as this beer has been filtered. (I wish Weyerbacher put this out in an unfiltered 750ml version).

Smell has lots of Belgian candied sugar and cherry. Surprisingly a very strong wheat beer aroma is present. Notes of banana, clove and mild spices from the yeast are coming through.

Dark fruit notes really sit in the back on this one. Sugary sweetness coats the mouth from start to finish. The flavor is clean with lots of candied sugar, apples, banana, and clove. Sweetness leans towards the cloying side, but a mild alcohol burn cuts it. Pretty drinkable for such a high ABV, even though the alcohol does come thru. The beer has a slight astringent feel as well. Alcohol comes through more and more as the beer warms but doesn't dominate the palate.

This is a good American version of a quad, but it doesn't hold a candle next to the Trappist quads. An unfiltered/bottle conditioned version of this one would really do this beer wonders. A solid interpretation of a belgian strong dark ale, but falls a little short of being a really great beer.

Pours a vibrant dark amber color with a thin lace of head. Aroma is big and boozey with some dark fruit, apricots, and traces of grapefruit. Flavor is oddly very very clean. Body not as big as expected with a decent a mount of carbonation giving it a briskness in your mouth. Alcohol is detectable on the swallow and warming but its nice.

Slightly chewy body with biscuit and dark fruit flavors luckily none of which linger too long being cut by the alcohol presence. Well balanced but flavors should be bigger. Drinks far too easily for a quad.

Unfortunately even after warming for a bit this beer only has a subdued flavor profile I've seen a thousand times. It drinks like a high alcohol dubbels. Yet I've had more flavorful dubbels than this.

However this beer does need some recognition for it's drinkability at such a high abv.

A: two finger rapidly dissipating head, some lacing. Amber and crimson, murky.

S: a little boozy in the aroma, fruity esters and dark fruit. raisins and some spicey notes

T: fairly boozy finish, borders on a mild barleywine in degree.
sweet with fig, raisin, grape and plums notes intermixed was some spicey yeast notes.

M: moderate carbonation, smooth, medium body.

Overall: The aroma and taste are both a little too boozy for how I like my Quads. Not a bad beer though.
