Pours dark brown, almost black, with light brown and mahogany hues when held to the light. Tight beige head leaves behind some lace.
Wonderful dark malt aroma with some roastiness, cocoa nib, coffee and nuts. A note of dark fruit rounds things out.
Flavor is just like the aroma - light roastiness, cocoa nib, mild coffee, and a touch of dark fruitiness. Molasses and nuttiness sets in after the roast. A touch of spice and vanilla finishes things up. Alcohol is just noticeable. Light lingering roasted sweetness.
Medium in body, not as full as I expected. Super smooth and nicely carbonated - just enough. Goes down real easy.
Very flavorful and easy drinking. Nice complexity but not too heavy. Not perfect but one of my favorites.

I was looking over the list of retired weyerbacher brews when I spotted this one and remembered it quite fondly. It was one of my favorites 8 or so years ago & I wish they'd bring it back. :'(

The almost black beer pours out into a nonic pint glass with a nice thick tan head that persists quite a while and leaves lots of lacing.
The aromas include some roasted malt, a bit of chocolate, some molasses but without much in the way of hops showing.
The flavors follow the nose with the nice balance of chocolate and molasses. The gentle sweetness is balanced by just a hint of dry hop bitterness.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with the moderate, persistent finely bubbled carbonation.
I definitely enjoyed this beer and would be happy to have it again. A well brewed ale for the winter months.

Poured from the bottle into a Duvel tulip.
Pours jet black with zero head.
Very weak aroma. I'm wondering if this bottle may have seen it's day.
Mouthfeel is as expected. Very light and almost no carbonation at all.
Flavor is bordering on a sour! I was hoping for something with a bit more depth and suspect that this particular bottle is past it's prime.
Overall, I was disappointed. I sat on this guy for too long! It already had five or six years on it when I purchased it a couple of years back and I should of drank it then.
I love Weyerbacher and will continue to enjoy their other fantastic offerings.
