Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Inspired by a classic beverage blending lemonade and iced tea, Sexy MotherPucker is a 7.5% ABV sour ale with bright citrus notes. Amber hued, tangy and dry on the palate, this tart beer nicely balances sour and malt with a late addition of Citra hops to give it a nice citrus kick in both flavor and aroma.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/6/2017. Pours crystal clear deep ruby red/light brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of tart/sour plum, cherry, raisin, berry, melon, red grape, lemon, lime, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, hay, and grass; with lighter notes of roast, pepper, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus hops, and dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of tart/sour plum, cherry, raisin, berry, melon, red grape, lemon, lime, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, hay, and grass; with lighter notes of roast, pepper, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light lactic tartness, grassy bitterness, and yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour plum, cherry, raisin, berry, melon, red grape, lemon, lime, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, hay, grass, pepper, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus hops, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from tart/sourness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, fairly acidic, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 7.5%. Overall this is nice sour red ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus hops, and dark/bready malt; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellow lactic/drying finish. Very unique flavors from the dry hop and yeast. Feels like a Flanders red in a way; but seems to only have Lacto, and no Brett. Probably a clean Belgian strain. A nicely enjoyable offering.

DATE: December 27, 2017... OCCASION: watching Garfield's Christmas with the boys--a classic passed on... GLASSWARE: La Fin du Monde tulip... pours an instant issue: a velvet-dark body, not at all what the description (or most sours?) claims it to look like... an off-white head that collects to a quarter-finger ring, smearing to a thick, extended lace... first scent is tart, sharp, and flowery... lightly boozy too, with a vinous, woody impression that makes for a sincere first impression... as expected, dry at the finish, with a medium-bodied delivery that encourages its next sip...what is missing here is the aggression, the burn associated with some sours... flavor profile drives blackberry, red grape, warm bourbon, tart apple, and brown sugar... a nice attempt at the style, with the high ABV acting to make this more of a late-night accompaniment...

12 oz pour into snifter.

A: Slight khaki head that settles quickly. Body is a nice brown.

S: getting lots of oak, blackberry, plum, and a little roasted notes.

T: Light sourness, lots of blackberry, plum, and sour raisin. Good bit of oak and sharp leather.

M: Medium to lighter body with good bitterness throughout.

O: Fairly unique beer with lots of inter playing flavors. Alcohol is high for the style, but it isn’t noticeable. I really can’t say I would drink this again, really can’t say I wouldn’t.

Weyerbacher Brewing Co. "Sexy Motherpucker"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "PACKAGED 05/11/17..." and sampled on 10/31/17

Notes via stream of consciousness: Not the best label they've ever put out, but it's OK. It pours an unexpected and surprisingly dark ruby-accented Mahogany brown beneath a Short head of creamy light tan. Kudos for the head reception! The aroma is clean and fresh and delivers the expected sour notes of sharpness, acidity, fruitiness, and perhaps even a hint of something metallic but there's also a light roastiness and dark caramel or even burnt sugar. Maybe even a suggestion of chocolate. It's unusual, so points for creativity there. The flavor follows exactly and although the dark malt is unusual it's at least interesting. It's more than just sour, there's an edge of bittersweet dark chocolate and roastiness to it. The balance of lightly sweetish malt, tartness, and subtle fruitiness is nice. As might be expected there's very little bitterness but not much is needed with the acidity that it has and it finishes dry and acidic with a light note of black cherry and a hint of almost smoke-like roastiness lingering. I'm impressed! There aren't a lot of sour beers that I'd drink more than one of in a row, but this is definitely one of them. On the other hand, I can't really think of any food that I'd pair it with. Maybe smoked goose. Yeah, that seems nice. Oh, what's the alcohol on this? 7.5% ABV, that's a bonus. The alcohol never shows but I can feel it a little bit after half a glass. Finally, I almost always forget until the end, it's got a light-medium body and moderate carbonation that leaves it smooth, and which works great with the acidity that's already there giving it some bite. Superbly done!

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was semi-dark brown to mahogany color with a small white head that fizzled fairly quick. Just a touch of concave lace, barely there.
The aroma had a lush sweet to sour to tart blend of plums, prunes, black raspberries, red raspberries, black cherries and elderberries. Slight lemon and grassy chilled character showed up underneath.
The flavor had a semi-dry to brisk sweet cherry/berry tartness playing with some lemon sour/sweetness. Modest sticky cherry/berry aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. But some stickiness came out, not cloying. Sour to tart cherry to berry finish.
Overall, pretty good sour ale worth considering again preferably this time of year.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a very dark brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of dark grapes, light cherries, a bit wine like. Taste is tart, sour, dark grapes, no alcohol, finishes dry as a desert. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.
