Let's get some French toast! This big brew is rich & malt-forward with a complex backbone of specialty malts, spices and orange peel. Sweet, bready, caramel flavors should prevail along with hints of smoke, spice and citrus. Liquid version of a classic breakfast…

Look, it's 5.5 years old. It's wicked smooth, fairly sweet, maybe more Prune than anything else, but definitely some dried stone fruit with a bit of raisin. Most of the Vanilla, orange peel, nutmeg, and cinnamon are now indistinct and lend a lightly spiced flavor to the beer. Overall, a very nice beer. If you manage to find some, it's totally worth picking up, unless you're in Florida, in which case, just tell me where you found it, and I'll dispose of it appropriately.

Picked up 4 of these for $1 each! I figured that even if they are four years old, it was worth the chance.

Poured a muddy brown with copper edges and practically no head. The spices listed on the bottle are long gone from the nose. But, the maltiness and the essence of prunes remains. The flavor still has a hearty breadiness with a dry bite on the finish. As expected, the alcohol is in check after all this time.

Pours medium brown with virtually no head. Aroma is malty and wine, maybe a bit of prune and caramel. Flavor is spot on scotch ale, malty lightly smoky peaty. Feel here is excellent, smooth and coating. Overall it's excellent and 11.1% to boot. Happy anniversary to us!

12oz bottle. Poured out a murky, dark brown color with a khaki-colored head of foam. It smelled of bready malt with cinnamon and other spices. Sweet and malty with hints of smokiness and spices.

The clear mahogany colored beer with reddish highlights pours out into a Duvel glass with a 1/4” light tan head that soon recedes to a small thin ring around the glass, leaving no lacing on the sides of the glass. Sipping creates a few small scattered patches of lacing, most of which soon slide back down to the liquid.

The aromas are filled with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla riding on a bready dark caramel malt background that also has a bit of plum/prune character.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose with the cinnamon and nutmeg up front. In addition there’s some clove, vanilla and that dark fruit character. The malt sweetness is also filled with bready caramel and dark brown sugar. The earthy hops have very little bitterness. The alcohol shows mostly by its warming effect that builds over time.

The mouthfeel is on the full side of medium bodied and smooth with the very light carbonation. The finish begins as the sweetness and fruits begin to recede faster that the spices so that the ending is dry and lightly spicy.

Overall this is an enjoyable sipping beer that would definitely work well while spending a cold snowy evening by the fireplace with a good book. It’s full of interesting complexities in the flavors and aromas and brings on a comfortable feeling of warmth. Wish I had another to enjoy.

12 ounce bottle in a snifter glass. Bottled on 6/7/17. Taken today, 1/26/19. It's mature.

Reddish brown pearl coat, like automotive paint. The thin tan head drops in a flash. A film develops as I drink, leaving no lacing.

Heavily spiced bread, caramel sweet malt. Orange, cinnamon, maple.

Sweet cinnamon swirl bread with maple syrup and an orange slice.

Syrupy feel, medium body. Very sweet and the alcohol is strong. Lingering spice.

Time was on its side, tempering the alcohol. It was still strong, but no boozy smell or burn. I liked it, but it fits in the "6 ounces would have been enough" category for me.

pours a dark, floater-filled caramel with a medium head that vanishes quickly. nose; spicy nutmeg, toffee, vanilla extract, light ethanol, & sugared raisins. taste; caramel malt, nutmeg, toffee, orange zest, cinnamon, sweet bourbon, raisin, moderate+ ethanol, vanilla, & light hops. heavy carbonation & medium mouthfeel. the abv is unfortunately unmasked. a very nice spiced ale, but too hot for very high marks; i’d love to revisit this one after a few years of age on it.

A but too malty for my liking. I don't get "French Toast" or much of the spices. But I did get drunk, given the high ABV, so there's that.

12 oz bottle poured into snifter. Packaged 6/8/17.

Pours a ruddy brown/prune juice color with almost no head as to be slightly expected from 11+%

Aroma is definitely Belgian. I get clove and pepper, hot cinnamon, vanilla, orange peels, brown sugar, and prune.

Flavor bursts forth with cinnamon and dark fruit. Orange peel as well. Hot alcohol soaked raisin and plum. The cinnamon strikes in on the back end and it finishes up with a touch of vanilla and spice rack.

Feel is hot and boozy, cotton-mouth dry, with a tight buzzing carbonation. Slightly sticky on the finish.

Overall, obviously the middle of summer is not the time to be drinking this beer. Where it would shine is during a chilly white-out blizzard when the heat is broken!
