Pours an unusual cloudy burnt orange with a very small white head. Aromas are hoppy and boozy, nothing in the way of tropical citrus qualities: the nose is more savory than sweet:I suspect it is the hop profile.

Flavors are enjoyable mix of savory hops with a detectable note of alcohol that is somehow more present in the nose than in the taste, which is a benefit. Alcohol is slightly hidden for 9% abv with regard to flavor and aftertaste.

Coats the palate with a blast of hops and a moderately boozy note that doesn't really linger very long. Overall a pricey 4 pack worthy of a purchase because it is a good quality IIPA that really doesn't look or taste like any other.

Served in a snifter glass.

Appearance: ireally like the way it looks, nice hazy amber with a light orange tinted head that rose to about a finger's length with a hard pour.

Smell: Strong hops, smells incredible but dissipates real f'n quick. Like before you put the glass down quick.

Taste: The alcohol is a little bit on the bolder side when it comes to feel and taste. Strong hops and a scotch bitterness to it. Not your typical floral feel, does give you that heavy grapefruit which is not bad at all.

Mouth: Can't say it is exactly smooth, it is a little rough around the edges. it feels that the focus was more on making it strong versus making robust. Medium, but was hoping for some caramel to it.

Overall: Good beer, but for the price I will grab something that in my opinion smashes it. I do not dislike it believe me, after a long day of work and paired with a turkey burger I took my time to finally give this brew a review. Salud!

Bottle to snifter.

A: Deep copper, Foamy off-white two finger head, Slightly hazy. Seems to glow in the glass. We're off to a good start.

S: Grapefruit, Orange, Pineneedles and Pinesap, faint caramel malt. Nice.

T: Layers of citrus, Deluge of hops, The grapefruit hangs around for a long time. Not as sweet as you might expect, But plenty bitter.

M: Pretty light for the style. Not excessively carbonated either.

O: Not a life changer, But a solid DIPA nonetheless.

I buy 2x IPA's whenever available...so naturally...I bought this one.

This hearty beer had sediment in the pour - I don't see that crafty yeastie beastie signature often enough anymore.

I was aware this beer had high reviews on BA before I popped the cap so I was prepared for a premium 2xIPA experience.

My expectation for IPA's and 2xIPA's are: these are hophead beers; the horn sections that dominate. Malts in this style are nameless in the chorus providing body as a vehicle for the ACCENT only - much like a YES concert. .

I was soundly disappointed. While I would easily place this beer a top hitter in the Pale Ale or Belgian Ale category (due the sour notes) - I do not find it suitable as an IPA much less a Double IPA offering - the malt is way too tall for the IPA style.

Isn't it?

POUR: Sedimentary copper haze.
HEAD: Two finger fading w/ lace
AROMA: Malty grass
FLAVOR: Sour malt...like any Belgian Ale
AFTERTASTE = Hop hit is only in the lingering aftertaste where the herbal/floral
