Very good beer--- traditional aspects of the Weyerbacher ale flavor. It does have a smokey flavor but it is definitly not overwhelming ---actually pretty subtle.

I really like smokey flavors in all types of foods/beverages--but this is not too smokey and receommend a bottle to anyone

Pours brown with a nice, rich tan head. Nice lacing sticks.

The smell is of roasted chestnuts, brown sugar, earthy hops, toffee, a touch of dark fruit and a background of Rauch-like smokiness. Pretty complex. Very inviting. "Different" in a nice way!

The taste is of roasted chestnuts, chocolate/ toffee, brown sugar - nice maltiness with herbal (towards tinny, though it doesn't quite reach that) and earthy. A soft smokiness rounds it out in the finish.

It has a full-side of medium body. Pretty silky/creamy. Mildly carbonated (another bubble or too wouldn't hurt, I suppose - though this works well, too).

A nice "fireside" drink. Aptly named. Alcohol is well-hidden. Smoky, but not too. Malty but balanced. This is a well-done, "unique" brew. Very enjoyable!

12 oz bottle pours a dark brown color with a creamy cap of tan head. Retention is pretty good, not much lacing.

Nose is sweet and nutty with a nice chocolaty malt background. Smokiness probably wouldnt be noticed without seeing it mentioned on the label.

Tastes kinda like an English Brown ale, has a nice nutty presence and the malts are lightly toasty but mostly sweet, light chocolate. Nice little hop grab on the tail end. There is a bit of fruitness in here, muscat grapes and plums. Smoke is very light, if noticeable at all which is a bit disappointing. Otherwise, I thought this was a pretty enjoyable little brew. Id probably pick up a sixer each year if I lived up North.

12oz bottle

A- Pours a dark brown color with a light tan colored head that possesses excellent retention and lacing.

S- The aroma is sweet malt, caramel and just a touch of smokiness. Both the aroma and the smokiness are pretty mild. I was pretty disappointed in the aroma at first, but it definitely got better as the beer warmed.

T- The taste features a bit more smoked flavors than in the aroma, with a lot of malt and caramel flavors as well. A good amount of hops are integrated into the finish.

M- The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation.

D- Not the best smoked beer I've had, but this is one is pretty solid that is definitely worth a try.

12oz. brown long-neck bottle courtesy of organicbrewer...nice extra Josh. It pours a ruby-copper with a full finger of tan foam. The head settles leaving dabs of lace, a ring and some surface patch.

The smell is very sweet and fruity with a distinct bubblegum and the faintest bit of smoke in the end. An interesting nose.

Sweet fruity intro with honeysuckle, caramel, bubblegum leading the way. A bit of grassy hops step up, together with a bittery charcoal smoke, to wind this brew down to a nicely balanced finish. Well done.

Medium plus body with a subdued alcohol presence, render a nice fluff to the mouthfeel and give it sessionable drinkability. A quality brew that deserves some recognition...cheers.

Poured at 45 degrees into pint glass with 1F of beige/tan head over a cloudy deep burgundy body. Solid lacing.

Aromas of molasses, deep rich fruits, rum-like alcohol, sweet spices, but without any obvious smoke - until it warmed a fair amount. Rich and inviting.

Flavors are somewhere between a Scotch Ale and a Belgian Dubbel - rich fruits up front, bitter orange peel hoppyness in the middle to back, and finishes with a good bite. Delicious, with a very light peat char, but may not have enough smoky quality for most people.

Pretty high on the carbonation for the flavors, but it does not get in the way or hold anything back. Decent smoothness.

High marks on drinkability for the style.

Beside a fire on Christmas night.

A - Poured out a murky, copper color with a one-finger, off-white head of foam. It left some sudsy trails of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of bacon and other smoked meats. Some caramel, too.

T - It tasted fairly smokey, but not overdone. Good roastiness with just a touch of sweet caramel.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a nice smoked beer. Another good brew from Weyerbacher.

A: Dark ruby, brown/black with moderate lacing. Reminds me of a stout or porter. I'm sure this one will be unique, at the least.

S: The first thing that invaded my olfactory senses was a burst of firewood mixed with bbq. Not overwhelming by any means, but definitely different.

T: Tastes like I'm drinking liquid bbq firewood mixed with a porter or stout. Smoky malt mixed with some wood qualities. I enjoy anything different, but this is more of an acquired taste. A few more of these and I might be able to find something I really enjoy about it.

M: Moderate carbonation and a smoked feel that could exhaust the palate. Not quite the same in terms of excessively hoppy brews, but still a bit in your face.

D: For the first attempt, this doesn't seem to me to be a brew that could initially be in consideration for a session. Repeat tries could change that since this is quite a unique brew.

Picked up a single 12oz. bottle from Abe's Deli in Bethlehem. Poured into my shaker glass, Fireside Ale, formerly know as Charlie, appears a clear golden brown color with about a finger of off-white foam. Smells of sweet, sticky toffee pudding. Tastes of lightly toasted cereal grain with a hint of smoke. The smoke is not overwhelming at all. People that do not care for a smoked beer would probably dig this. Medium in both body and carbonation. This is a new late winter seasonal for Weyerbacher, and I look forward to it's next release. Certainly worth a shot if you see it.

The aroma is of slight roasted and sweet malt notes. There is a smokiness thats not in your face but defiantly making sure you know that it is present. Also what i feel may be a earthy woody hop aroma at the end of the aroma that may or may not be trickery on part of the smokiness and smoked malt in the beer.

Pours a beautiful deep mahogany color with a thick head that dies down to a dusting.

The taste is very well balanced and smooth in the beginning, a good medium body up front and a malt backbone with some caramel and roasted notes that lead the way into a perfect balance of the smoked character in the middle that carries through to the end where you get a medium to light semi dry slightly sweet finish that does not overwhelm you like some other smoked style beers maybe being a little to heavy on smoke or other aspects of the beer. Their is little to know hop detection in the flavor and a very restrained amount of bitterness. This one for all that it is can very easily become a session beer it really is a perfect blend of everything in the beer and nothing is out of tune.

more of this should be made SOON!

Appearance: Dark brown, not much of a head.

Aroma: Smoky, but not overly so.

Taste: The smoke isn't so strong in the taste, but it doesn't need to, as coming from the cask, there is a nice and delicate combination of 'old ale' style characteristics here.

Mouthfeel: No carbonation, medium body.

Overall: It certainly tastes like something that would be nice whilst sitting by a fire!
