On tap at Capone's. This one combines 2 of my top favorites (Rye and IPAs!).

Poured a medium amberish/copper color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of rye, floral, citrus, and bready. Tastes of rye, toasty, citrus, caramel, grains, and bready. Lighter bitter finish.

12oz bottle purchased at Capone's in Norristown PA quite some time ago.

Appearance: Pours a murky brown with garnet folds (aka amber) and a massive 3 finger off white (buttery to khaki) crown that displays great retention and lace. I'd give it a 4.25 if I could, so I'm rounding up a bit.

Smell: Nice caramel sweet malt with some supporting citrus hops that are stale at this point (my fault for holding on to the bottle for so long) and a dose of rye.

Taste: Same as the nose but with less malt presence and nice bitter hop finish.

Mouthfeel: Not as thick as it looked/smelled. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall: A decent brew that I wish I would have tried when fresh.

A - Pours a dark chestnut brown with very little foam to speak of

S - sweet malts, brown sugar and orange and grapefruit hoppiness

T - sweet caramel malt, i notice some nuttiness, grains and some hop bitterness

M/D - light to medium bodied, decent carbonation, taste is ok, dry finish. Not my favorite for the style.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into an imperial pint.

A: Pours a cloudy caramel color with a sticky off white head. Lace stuck everywhere!

S: Aromas of caramel, spicy rye, and mild citrus.

T: See above. Nice notes of spicy white pepper/rye, citrus hops, caramel, and finishes with a rye malt tang.

M: Biting, spicy beginning, chewey middle, and a dry/prickly finish.

D: Not bad. I wouldn't mind trying more of this

On tap at D's Six Pax, oh god how I miss this place. Three Weyer's on tap, including this gem.

Pours cloudy vrown with thin head and only minor lacing. Kinda dirty dishwatery. This is the only complaint I have. Lovely pine and grain nose, with hint of spice. % didn't know this was a rye but woulda guessed based on the aroma. Like a good cascade-y pale with half a shot of rye whisky added. Nice. Tremendous balanced flavor, with solid, unassailable hops vying with the spice of rye and sweetness of good, roasty malt. Crisp mouthfeel with great drinkability.

Damn, I'm so glad I stopped here and lucked upon this. Now I'm on a quest for some bottles to take home and share. Bottom line: go get this.

Another fine beer from guinnessdoc. You've sent me way too much great beer, Josh. Thanks a ton.

Echo pours a darker shade of caramel brown. It's mostly clear and backlighting gives it some light ruby highlights. It's topped with a creamy, tan head that stands over two fingers tall. It's extremely slow to recede and leaves an impressive, thick lacing in its wake. Very good looking stuff.

The nose is very good. It's full of piney and floral hop notes. I was expecting a nice hop presence, but this is more than I expected. There's even a touch of grapefruit there for good measure. Caramel malt smells sweet. No question, there's plenty of malt here. I like the fact that it still smells nice and hoppy. Nicely done. I was expecting more of a spicy rye scent, but it's somewhat subtle and looms in the background. Bringing that to the forefront would improve it a little. No alcohol is noted. All in all, very good.

The flavor is likewise very good. It has a nice sweet caramel malt base. But, the malts do not impede the bitter hop or spicy rye flavors. Both emerge quickly and really challenge the palate to appreciate all of its subtle nuances. The hops are mostly bitter and floral, but there's some citric flavors here, as well. I like the hop profile quite a bit. Spicy rye is much more prominent in flavor. This is good stuff. I like it. To be honest, the spicy rye and bitter hop flavors become just a little jumbled and make it really tough to break down. Small complaint. It's tasty stuff, but I think a little less hops and more rye would be better. Just my $.02. Alcohol goes unnoticed. It finishes spicy, bitter, and dry.

It has a medium body that benefits greatly from a nice malt base. It's very smooth and easy drinking. Carbonation is dialed down to just the right level and gives it a very creamy feel. Drinkability is good. It goes down easy and is very approachable at 6.8%. I'd happily drink another bottle if I had it.

Weyerbacher did a nice job with Echo. It's a very solid Rye beer. The only small gripe I have is about the rye/hop combo. I'd like it more with less hops and more rye. As it is, the spicy flavor gets a little lost in the bitter flavor. It's very impressive all-around otherwise. Echo is a very nice Rye beer that's well worth seeking out. Thanks, Josh.

A-Brownish tinted copper with a thin off white head that reduces to a thin cap and leaves decent lace.

S-Roasted malt and spicy rye with a bit of caramel sweetness and a nice hop pop of light citrus and pepper.

T-Dry, spicy rye on top of light, sweet biscuit malt and strong earthy hop bitterness. Undertones of caramelized sugar and pepper.

M-Medium bodied, sharp and fairly crisp with plenty of lingering bitterness and spicy rye flavours.

D-Good stuff for sure. A nice, spicy rye beer that offers up plenty of flavour. Easy to drink with a pleasant dry finish.

Poured from a bottle fresh from the brewery. If it weren't for the strength, this would be a great session beer. The aroma is an odd/interesting herbal caramel, while the flavor dives into a great spicy-hoppy mix of tastes. More toffee dives into the malt profile while grapefruit and orange rind feel into the earth hop finish. Overall this is a great example of how rye contributes to a beer. Most of the time I feel like I can barely taste it, but not here.

Appearance - Pours an amber caramel with a slight, fluffy off-white head and nice lacing.
Smell - Aroma of bready malt and citrus hops.
Taste - Great rye flavor, bready malt, and a nice transition to a citrusy hop blast.
Mouthfeel - Nice medium-bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Nice scrubbing effect.
Drinkability - Relatively easy drinking for a beer with the intense flavors present.

Thanks to beerisheaven for sending me two bottles of this brew, since he knows I have to try all things Weyerbacher. Hey Brian, when you reach the afterlife, make sure you bring all the 'thanks' from me, maybe it'll cut your time in purgatory a few days!!

Gorgeous beer. Sailor's delight sunset red, with a persistent head that's getting in the way of my immediately enjoying this beer. Get down, froth of Satan! Carbonation slow-rolls to the top like a well-fished spinnerbait. Smell is pretty tame, almost nondescript, a tingle of rye & alcohol, nothing more.

After fighting my way through the bubbles, tiny bubbles, I get a mouthfull of sharp, dry rye, with a tinge of hops. Much more subtle than I was expecting, little bite, very smooth, just small shards of toned-down spice at the very end. Drinkability is through the roof, I could gulp this down in a few raises of the glass.

Excellent beer. I was expecting a whole different beer, something jagged as glass & roaring, but this went entirely the other direction with smooth & simple. Dig!

I've gotta give a thanks to knifestyles for the generous extra here...it seems like there have been a lot of new styles in my glass lately-that is true beer advocacy if you ask me! No freshness date on this 12 oz. bottle that is being poured into my SN pint glass...

Big lively burnt caramel colored head with superb lacing. A nice tan pillow of head that has good staying power. Deep, clear, dark ruby body.

The aroma is of bready malts and slightly citrus hops. There is some bitterness and alcohol detected as well.

It's got a biscuity and malty pallet savoring flavor up front. Seems very delicate. Some hop bitterness near the back with a minute amount of spice coming through in the finish.

Oily yet smooth mouthfeel...and to top it off, it's very refreshing and quaffable.

This is definitely a style that I need to get more familiar with. I can't wait to explore some more rye beers in the future.

On draft at The Blind Tiger, NYC.

Poured a deep amber hue with a one and a half finger foamy off white head. There was good retention and very good lacing.

The smell featured a toasted malts, caemelized sugar and an herbal hop.

The taste consisted of a spicy rye, dark caramel, burnt grain and a spicy hop.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style with a pronounced rye spice.

Overall a very tasty and representative rye beer.

This was an excellent beer. Very bitter/hoppy brew, but it's balanced out with a smooth toffee taste.

This has a nice reddish color with a big thick head. Very cool type beer (minty?). I'm told that this is a rye beer trait. Very happy with this brew.

Bottle courtasy of philbe311

Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into my surly tulip. Forming a foamy 2 inches of off white head. Leaving behind thick sticky lace all around and a solid cap of retention. The color is a deep amber, transparent with red hues.

The aroma off this is basically a malt bomb, with spicieness off the rye and a bit of mild piney hops. A touch of cloves and plenty of yummy sweetness.

Starting out crisp, some milder sweets and plenty of malt. Its thick and creamy on first sip, this has a great full bodied mouthfeel. I'm rateing the mouthfeel well, just off this creamier feel and laid back carbonation, very enjoyable feel to this.
Piney hops pick up momentum into the swallow and rye spice takes over.
Finishing clean with a bit of piney hop bitters, spicie rye. Hops lingering a while.

This is an exceptional example for the style and an overall wonderfully enjoyable beer.

Thank you Phil!
