Look: Nice deep motor oil color. Brown head that dissipates quickly. Lots of carbonation present.

Smell: Wow amazing smell. Grilled meats... like a BBQ smell. Tobacco, chocolate, toffee, booze. Has a roasty aroma I've never quite experienced before. Excellent.

Taste: Rich tobacco, toffee, roasted malts, Belgian influence is evident. Dark fruits and alcohol taste. Very good taste for almost a 12% beer. Smooth and sweet. Summer night sipper.

Feel: Smooth

Overall: Very good. First of the style I've had and I bet i'll be buying this again at some point. Going to cellar a bottle for a while too. 8/10.

Poured into small chalice: color is black, solid, head is darker tan with fine bubbles, no lacing.

Smell is roasted malt, touch of ester/booze, transitioning to sweeter base with a belgian yeast twist and fruity complexity. Notes of chocolate and espresso and pepper.

Taste is similar with a roasted malt flavor, moderate ester, then sweeter malts and fruitiness - fig, raisin like, chocolate, espresso and pepper are also noticeable. I let this warm quite a bit and it did not expand the flavor but it was consistent and fairly drinkable.

Mouthfeel has moderate presence with fine carbonation and strong ester drying.

Overall a good beer, booziness is noticeable but still doesnt seem like a 12% brew. Flavors are mixed with not one presenting prominently.

750 ml bottle into a snifter. Bottled 1/2/15, had 9/19/16.

Pours an opaque, dark brown, thick looking, with a one inch foamy head, some foamy lacing. Kinda looks like it means business. The smell brings roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, molasses, raisins, Belgian yeast, light smoke, a little fig. The taste also leads with the roasted malts, then chocolate, vanilla, caramel, molasses, smoke, licorice, some prunes and coffee, light Belgian yeast. Good amount of bitterness up front. Smooth, creamy, well carbonated- but a little fizzy and it does detract a bit, full bodied, the taste lingers.

Very good flavor- lots of layers, very good aroma, fairly complex. This needs a lot more love in the ratings department, a terrific and highly enjoyable beer. Well worth a purchase.

Beautifully black brew; thin mocha head with ok retention.

Nose offers complexity and depth: roast and char; chocolate and licorice; banana; molasses; raisins; brown sugar; sweet red grapes.

Flavor follows: it's big and bold and sweet immediately up front. Waves of chocolate and molasses, mingling with dark fruit and brown sugar. Back half features a nice roasty char along with a pleasant boozy burn.

Thick and chewy feel. The alcohol is noticeable but not at all unpleasant.

This is a fantastic sweet stout! This ranks up there with the best of Evil Twin's big bold dessert stouts.

12 oz bottle with a bottling date of 30 April 2015 and a BB date of 30 April 2017 in a Belgian snifter on 11 Dec. 2016.
Pours, thick, essentially black, opaque, and with minimal signs of carbonation. Virtually no head or lacing. The aroma seems a bit off, even for the Belgian style: it's quite mossy and earthy, with hints of fresh cut wood and black licorice. This characterization only partially carries over to the far more appealing flavor. Some molasses, burnt grain notes and light spicing.

Overall: interesting and drinkable, but disappointing, especially from Weyerbacher.
