12oz bottle. Excited to give this a try. Pours into my glass a hazy yellow orange with a billowing bubbly white head on top. Lots of active carbonation. Aromas start out with sweet pale grain malts along with some banana and spice with a bold clove accent. Belgian yeast as well. Rather mellow.
First sip brings a crisp light grain malt upfront that carries with it some sweetness. Some banana and fruit accents follow along with a spiciness of clove and light pepper. Finishes with a touch of Belgian yeast and lingering sweetness. Overall it is just not cohesive and ends up being rather bland.
Mouthfeel is on the lighter side with an onslaught of fast moving carbonation. The excess carbonation gets in the way and knocks down my enjoyment of the brew. Overall, I'm really not digging this brew. It falls somewhat flat flavor wise and ends up being rather boring.
Thanks to afterexile for the opportunity to try it.

This was based on opening a 2010 Zotten. Aged pretty well. Still carbonated. No oxidation, etc. Nice Belgian yeast character. Enjoy getting these old beers.

disclosure: bad experiment in ageing. but found it, decided to try it. - pours deep amber with a white thin head that quickly disappears. cloudy with visible yeast sediment. aroma is a combination of different elements of oxidation. green apples, estery/solventy and horse blanket. there's no hop presence left. so the remaining flavors are just malt sweetness and maybe some candy sugar. surprisingly the oxidation from the nose, does not carry heavily into the flavor. its almost all malts like a Scottish ale. body has thinned out, carbonation is also very light and there is an astringency that borders on harsh. despite all this, it finishes dry and only the above mentioned harshness lingers on. - way past its prime

I love the Verboten. It's a smooth beer with a hoppy finish. It pours a translucent bronze (light amber), and smells faintly hoppy. It tastes sightly sugared and sweet, but with a disappointing yet decent finish. The bitter aftertaste doesn't mesh with the initial smoothness, and it detriments the beer's overall taste.
Regardless, it's a great beer.
It goes down easy like a lager, with a lot more flavor.
Drink if you want a great Weyerbacher beer, and an interesting hybrid between sweet and slightly hoppy.

L: An amber pour with a slight orange tint and a light haze supports a quickly receding 2” off-white foam collar. S: Estery aromas rise form the glass. T: This yeast driven beer features fruit, plum, apricot, orange, and some caramel and toffee with a moderate bitterness. F: Medium body and medium high carbonation. O: A well balanced and drinkable beer.
