Notes / Commercial Description:
Merry Monks, 9.3% ABV, is a Belgian-style Tripel. Pilsner malt combined with an Abbey yeast strain yields a remarkable and complex flavor packed with notes of spice, banana and pear. Nicely balanced, with a moderate to dry finish.

Merry Monks is bottle conditioned which imparts a special effervescence to the beer and a creamier carbonation. The ongoing fermentation inside the bottle will change the character of the beer as it ages and you’ll find it becomes dryer with age. You may want to lay down a few bottles for future evaluation. We suggest storing at cellar temperatures (around 55°F) and away from light.

This brew is available year-round. Keep your eye out for Merry Monks in 25 oz. cork-and-cage champagne bottles for an exceptional experience!

A- Hazy gold, with a decent head.

S- Very spicy and mildly sweet

T- Starts off very sweet, almost candy like, and then a bit of spice flavor comes in, and lastly, some citrus notes on the finish on the finish. Hides it's alcohol content very well.

M- Fairly full bodied, but goes down easy, perhaps too easy.

O- Fairly complex, and very tasty. Though it's a little dangerous how easy it goes down, which is fairly typical for this style. However, it's not quite and complex as many other tripels. Though there are better tripels out there, not a bad one to try.

Single bottle from Premium Gourmet in Buffalo. Been meaning to try this brew for quite some time.

Poured into a goblet - amber golden brew, slightly hazy, some flecks of sediment. About a half inch of head that recedes into a thin ring.

Nose is pear, grape, medicinal, slight yeast, banana and clove, some earth and funk as well.

Good triple, a bit on the sweet side, although the finish is dry. Similar flavor notes as in the nose, with the emphasis on the pear and grape. Finish is dry and a bit peppery. Some yeast, a bit funky.

Assertive carbonation, medium bodied, dry on the palate.

Good tripel, lots going on here.

A: Pours a cloudy gold, with two fingers of whitish head.

S: Citrus, banana, brown sugar. Huge sweetness with an alcohol finish.

T: Extremely sweet, with fruit notes, lots of banana. Residual alcohol and even more sugar notes. Too sweet. More spice and yeast character would help.

M: Carbonation is nice, with significant alcohol presence. Not bad overall, but the sweetness and lack of belgian yeast character are noticeable.

O: A decent effort, but lacking the depth of character to make it great. Not my favorite Tripel. I'll stick to La Fin Du Monde for my Tripels made this side of the Atlantic.

[Best served in a Trappist glass]

The pour was a hazy medium orange with an average sized (1-2 finger) white creamy head that dissipated quickly down to a light film with a small collar and had fair streaky sheets of lacing.

The aroma was of a light bread malt and a moldy Belgian yeast with notes of banana, apple, citrus (lemon) and a hint of clove and/or coriander.

The taste was mildly malty and a tad sweet with notes of apple and banana right off, becoming rather yeasty with a moderate citrus presence, a good dose of spices and a big alcohol finish. The flavor hung around for a good long time after the swallow with a spicy citrus taste left behind, along with a decent alcohol warming sensation.

Mouthfeel was a tiny bit beyond light in body and dry in texture with an almost moderate carbonation.

Overall this was an extremely tasty Tripel, with a nice yeasty citrus flavor. That along with the multitude of other flavors did a somewhat decent job of masking the high ABV, making this brew very drinkable and quite enjoyable...

A: Pours straw/copper color with huge fluffy white head

S: Banana, bubble gum, rich creamy sweetness, hint of grassy hops, candy sugar

T: Peach, pear, citrus zest, spice, grassy hops, orange, and alcoholic sweetness

O: Very nice, probably the best tripel I've had to date other than Fin Du Monde.
