Sunday Morning Stout is an American Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels. The result? A beautiful ebony pour with a large, creamy, off-white head that lasts and lasts. The aromas of roasted coffee and bourbon awaken your senses while their flavors blend with hints of chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and caramel.

Bottle. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy dark chocolate, coffee and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted dark chocolate malt flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a dry smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Had one of these bottles that sat in the cellar (like a real cellar) for a few years and randomly broke it out on a, wait for it. . . Sunday morning.

Stout pours black, brown head, 1/5". For some reason I was getting a little pepper heat perception out of this one, but apparently no, I'm just high or defective or something. Usual roasted malt, bourbon barrel. coffee and vanilla notes otherwise. I guess that makes you an outlaw too.

The taste is pretty nice, sometimes stouts get ugly bitter with age, this one got nice and smooth. Chocolatey and bourbon, not reinventing the wheel or anything but hitting the notches solidly like a divorcee with questionable coping skills. Very light coffee note. Plenty drinkable stuff despite an appearance and abv that looks daunting. The viscosity is more akin to Central Waters than Goose Island (thicccc) which is a positive for me. Light caramel note contributes on the back end.

Has anyone else noticed how much Styx influences The Flaming Lips?

12oz bottle purchased off the shelf as a 4-pack for $21.15 plus tax. PACKAGED 111623, so this is almost four months old. Drinking this at room temperature.

Look: It's very dark but not pitch black. There is some brownish color there within the black. The head is a nice cafe au lait color, very thin layer.

Smell: Rich coffee and roasty, toasty notes galore. Nice bourbon notes, not too strong or too much char. I also get dark cocoa and vanilla notes. It has sweet aromas and it also smells a bit boozy.

Taste: It's very tasty. Up front, notes of chocolate and roasted malts and coffee and it's a bit sweet. It finishes drier, with lots of char and wood on the finish with a lingering bourbon flavor. I'm not sure it's because it's so fresh or because they used wet bourbon barrels. A bit of cherry cordial flavor also lingers. Secondary notes of licorice and chicory, also vanilla. Warming sensation in the chest is building.

Feel: The mouthfeel is nice. Nice carbonation, small bubbles. It doesn't taste thin but it's not thick either. I think that the high ABV makes it seem thinner than it actually is.

Overall: This reminds me a bit of Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout, but due to the bourbon barrel aging it's certainly sweeter. I wonder how the base beer would compare with Brooklyn BCS. I am curious to see if this beer would improve with some age. On the one hand, the coffee notes will fade but on the other hand this beer has such potent bourbon flavors I think that this beer will develop and improve over time as the flavors mellow out and become more integrated with the base beer. The finish is very woody, so I think that this would also help to have some time to mellow out.

Beautiful pour. Deep dark brown color with excellent head.

Not enough on the nose to notice.

Very delicious. Smooth, easy to drink. Definite notes of coffee.

Lovely beer. Best I have had from Wryerbacher.

Wish I could find this locally.

The label says 11.8% abv as opposed to the 12.7 shown here. Did I get a bogus bottle or do they switch this one up from year to year. Someone get on that, stat.

No date on the bottle so not sure how long I’ve had it, but it’s been a couple years.at least.
The pour was stout black with a very short brown head that left no lacing.
The taste was pretty mild actually, breakfast blend coffee and smooth roast malts, the bourbon was very light as well but it all made for way too easy drinking for the ABV.
The feel is a little thinner than expected but that contributed to the ease of quaffing.

12 oz bottle
Bottled On Date: (no date on bottle)
Consumed on: 24 Feb, 2023
Glass: Snifter
ABV: 12.7%
Serving Temp: room temp

Look:
Pitch black with a half-finger fizzy brown head. The head dissipated very quickly to a thin ring and a quarter-moon cover. The lacing is fine.

Smell:
Semi-sweet chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon notes are front and foremost. Some coffee notes (sweetened coffee) can be detected but they are more in the background.

Taste:
Follows the nose with everything more pronounced. The bourbon, vanilla, and a sweet note are the dominate flavors, followed by the chocolate (which drifts towards milk chocolate). Mild coffee notes provide some bitterness, but this is a sweet tasting beer.

Feel:
Smooth and viscous. The alcohol provides a noticeable warmth that builds with each sip. The body is medium but with a step or two to the light side.

Overall:
Although not on par with KBS (original), this is a solid bourbon-barrel aged stout. It is on the sweet side, and does not emphasize the coffee that it was brewed with. A nice beer for a chilly winter night.

Poured into one of my wife's tulip glasses since all that I have is a beer mug. Poured a dark pitch black with a dark tan head that disappeared quickly. The aroma is of coffee, caramel, vanilla, and Bourbon. The ABV definitely can be felt as a nice warm feeling. The taste to me is of coffee and caramel. Overall, a solid bourbon/coffee stout. I like it and will be getting more when I can.

Body pours a deep black with a good initial head. During my tasting, no lacing.

Nose featured the bourbon barrel and coffee. Major bourbon aroma. Good!

Taste follows nose as the barrel dominates. Adding to the taste is coffee and a bit of malty char that’s a welcome addition to the barrel, keeping the beer from being a one trick pony. The barrel, though prominent, never becomes sweet.

Carbonation was minimal and mouthfeel was lighter than expected based on my presumption given its barrel aging.

A very good stout that I should have tried years ago.

From an undated 12oz bottle into a #supermom glass that I borrowed from my wife. This beer is fresh-just showed up at stores a couple months ago.

Pours opaque pitch black with about one finger of light brown head. Ok retention, less than average lacing. Was expecting a little more head from a pretty aggressive pour.

Aroma on the open, picking up coffee, dark chocolate, roast/smoke and a bit of dark fruits and a hint of barrel. On warming, the aroma becomes predominantly coffee with light chocolate.

Taste is strong coffee, chocolate, light bourbon, some smoke and wood.

Body on this is superb. Incredibly smooth drinking. Nice coffee and bourbon aftertaste. Low carbonation.

This beer is a pleasure to drink. Would be curious to see what flavors emerge after the coffee dies down, but I don't think this four pack will make it that long.
