This is fantastic. HUGE beer. Great sipper for a nightcap. Lots of coffee in the nose. Nice subtle bourbon flavor. Delicious. In the same category as Expedition Stout and Goose Island Bourbon County Stout.

Look: Pitch black, with about a half inch, reddish tan head. Leaves little bit of lacing.

Smell: Coffee is what is most upfront. Just a hint of bourbon. Chocolate and malts also in the background.

Taste: Coffee again is very up front, but the bourbon is much more noticeable in the flavor. The bourbon isn't overly done. It's just about perfect.

Feel: Thick and full bodied, as any good stout should be. Just the slightest hint of booze from the bourbon.

Overall: Very excited to try this beer. It doesn't get much better than a bourbon barrel aged coffee stout. Couldn't find four packs. So I took a gamble and bought a case. Glad I did!

Coffee and dark chocolate on the nose with much of the same in the taste. Weyerbacher nailed it with this one! With every sip I get coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, slight caramel, and a little bit of heat. Look out KBS, this stuff is amazing. A two finger head with beautiful lacing down the side of the glass and a creamy mouthfeel. I'm loving it!

Best thing Weyerbacher makes hands down. Aroma is a huge hit of coffee followed by the bourbon and chocolate notes one would expect from this style. ludicrously full body, some alcohol heat but not enough to detract from this delicious stout

Pours like a cub of Black Coffee with light brown head and lacing

Smells of strong coffee, bit of bourbon

Taste of coffee, vanilla, chocolate, bourbon in that sequence

nice full stout, with all the flavor and none of the burn from the bourbon

One of the top beers for the style out there

Weyerbacher hits this one out of the park. Outstanding. I only noticed a hint of coffee; the bourbon was more obvious. Hopefully, Weyerbacher puts this in their annual run.

There're probably alot of factors playing into this rating. Could be the fact that we just closed on our new house. Could be the fact that this was the first brew we had in our new house. Could be the fact that this is incredible. Whatever the case, this beer is INCREDIBLE!

Look: Pitch black body, minimal dark brown head
Smell: bourbon, roasty, hints of coffee
Taste: Notes of chocolate-covered espresso beans, then a nice bourbon flavor and warmth. The bourbon mellows after sipping for a bit, and then the coffee and chocolate become more prominent.
Feel: Very thick, I could feel the insides of my mouth being lathered with coats of coffee, bourbony, sticky greatness.
O: My favorite beer of all time so far. Weyerbacher never fails.

Bottled 1/11/16 Can't see much wrong with this beer. I'd rate the smell a 10 if I could. Last year it seemed like more of a booze bomb but is much more balanced this year. One of the best I've had.

Pours jet black with a thin brown head and pretty good lacing.

Nose is predominantly bourbon. Vanilla, oak, caramel, black coffee, and a hint of chocolate. Amazing smell.

Holy crap. Insanity. Coffee up front, nice sweetness follows. The bourbon and oakiness comes through afterwards. Vanilla, toffee, and chocolate as well. So so good. It's like dessert.

Velvety smooth and thick and viscous. How a stout should feel. You don't get any burn for the abv.

This is one example of an amazing stout. Really reminds me of a slightly lesser version of KBS. Something seriously special.

Others have described the nuances, I'll describe the abstract. When I think barrel aged I think backwoods bastard by founders. When I think imperial stout I think old rasputen by north coast. This is like taking the two of those and smashing them through a Starbucks window. This beer is not scary tasting at all. So many flavors going on. It's a shame is only available in the spring. Weird because this is a perfect winter brew.

My first thought on smell was that strictly of dark chocolate. The taste was something different all together. I first got hit with something I couldn't explain along with hops and dark chocolate. Then I got a slight coffee taste which gave way to the smoothness and sweetness of bourbon. This was also accompanied with hints of what I thought to be vanilla. Overall, this beer is a phenomenal brew by Weyerbacher. The 11.3% doesn't hurt either. I can't wait to age it and see how it progresses in flavor. Definitely one to rival KBS in my opinion!

This is a sleeper. Very similar to KBS although I dare say it edged it out, which is no small task (at least for my palate). Well done. Kudos to the brewer. This is a near perfect beer.

On draft in tulip glass. The light brown head is awesome. Strong coffee mixed with the bourbon in the finish. Whole mouth gets coated with this one. Awesome

This brew kind of tastes like BCBS's cousin. If you like big imperials with barrel notes and coffee, this one's for you. The coffee is nice addition and adds an espresso, fresh coffee flavor. Nose is fantastic - barrel, bourbon, dark chocolate, toffee, little dark fruit, vanilla. If your a coffee beer guy, you know the coffee addition can go either way. The flavor of this beer keeps on going. Top 5 coffee beers for sure. Must have.

Its ABV is startling for some as it flaunts a menacing 11.3% ABV. Surprisingly though, this beer has managed to skillfully disguise its booziness behind the subtle flavor layers of coffee and prominent finishing notes of bourbon. Its aroma is unmistakably of bourbon, though when consumed, has a silky smooth mouthfeel. The alcohol, not harsh, is warming to the throat and the warmness seems to build with each sip. I would describe the beer as full bodied though I am able to drink it with an ease, quite like many medium bodied beers (if not for its ABV). Bottled only several weeks ago on 3/14/15, it will be interesting to see how this beer evolves after I age a bottle for over a year. Truly though, it is not a release to miss. Had to feature this one on the beer blog

Gift from a fellow BA, poured into a pipe works tales from the oak snifter. I will only use adjectives to describe this beer. Dark brown. Smoky. nice to look at. Oaky. Inky. Coffee. Sweet, slightly vanilla. Slight thin feel. Soy saucy, I guess, yet somehow deep and complex. Stinging back end. Boozy. Tasty and fun.

Excellent brew. I've heard it compared to KBS and that is a valid comparison. Very similar is look - taste and feel. Enjoy slowly - extremely smooth. Easy to drink for a dark brew but def one to sip and enjoy. Sad I only scored a 4 pack. Great job Weyerbacher. Cheers

Did a blind taste with THE KBS and heavily preferred this. When I tasted the brew which had the thin aftertaste, I figured it would have to be this one. To my chagrin it was KBS. Very well done here

Look- Pure black with a very dark brown head.

Smell- Lots of coffee, bourbon notes, roasted malts.

Taste- Follows the nose. Huge boozy kick with this beer, but I love it. You can definitely taste the bourbon and coffee first and foremost, with lots of dark chocolate and roasted malts to follow.

Feel- Thick and oily, full body.

Overall- Simply incredible, this beer combines everything that I love and adore about stouts. This is my new favorite beer, ranking above KBS and Ten Fidy for me.

Preliminary: Had both on draft and from 12-oz bottles.

Look: Pours thick, sludgy and with lingering texture. Pitch black with next to no head, lacing, or retention.

Smell: Cold pressed coffee, sweet espresso, oak, sweet syrup, bourbon, smoke, baker chocolate and toasted vanilla.

Taste: Robust, flavorful and complex due to the dense flavor profile. Gives off a strong chocolate, coffee, dried fruits and oats flavor. Bourbon heat and characteristics are subtle, yet playful. Many different nuanced flavors that open up as the beer breathes and warms up with 10-20 minutes.

Feel: Creamy, lingering, lightly carbonated, coating and syrupy. Everything that you would want from a fresh barrel-aged stout that hits the double digit ABV mark.

Overall: A 4.75 for me. This makes KBS looks like utter shit. I find this best enjoyed fresh since the barrel aging was on point: not too long. Just enough to impart some sweet whisky and wood flavors into this breakfast stout. This will certainly make any Sunday a day to look forward to.
