The food and sandwiches that they serve are sub par. I got sick eating there. They have no local brands. The owners are very standoffish and rude . I wont be returning . Liquor Express is a better option.

A location that was mainly big name beer that is changing to the craft scene. Not my first pick, I'd rather travel down the street to Liquor Express or to Tops.

We visited Sun Stop Liquor at the suggestion of some friends who reside in Tempe, Arizona. It is likely due in large part to the fact that this is probably the physically closest worthwhile beverage store to their apartment. Alas, we checked it out.

After parking in the shared strip mall lot, you find Sun Stop at the corner of the mall. It sits next to a curry place and a chicken and waffles place, with a particularly enthusiastic sign twirler out front on the sidewalk. You enter into a rectangular room, with the checkout counter stretching up the right side of the wall. Rows of double sided shelving split the space, displaying various liquors and wines. All of the beer is found against the far back left wall in coolers. They had upwards of 10-15 single-door coolers back there, offering up a wide and impressive variety of bombers, singles, cans, and cases of both import and domestic beer. We ended up resupplying on some Modus Hoperandi, but were particularly excited to find some lingering bottles of Xocoveza, and an entire bomber rack of Old Viscosity.

Checkout was easy and friendly, but there was only a single employee at the time of our visit, and no discussion or suggestion of beer occurred. We will definitely be coming back here before we leave the state to clear out a few more bottles of that Old Viscosity. If you’re in the area, and want a nice selection of Midwest, southwest, and west coast beer, Sun Stop Liquor should be able to provide you with something you’ve yet to try.
