12oz. bottle straight from the brewery, poured into a tulip glass.
A- a light amber, with a huge off white head. Great lacing.
S- some caramel/bready malts, with some earthy and slightly citric hops.
T- starts with some mild fruity hop character, which is mixed with a pretty big bready, slightly caramel malt backbone. Hops aren't huge, but turn slightly minty, and resinous on the finish.
M- slightly heavier than medium. Plenty of carbonation.
O- Just not quite up to snuff. Hops just don't pop.

Poured into a chalice: color is amber, a bit hazy, head is very light tan, fine to small bubbles, good presence and lingers well with some lacing on the glass.
Smell is citrus, mainly rind and grapefruit like, light earth, hint of light sweet malt.
Taste is similar: with lightly citrusy hops intermingled with more traditional earthy flavors, light sweetness from the malt but no big caramel.
Mouthfeel is good and gets better as it warms, full flavor, lingering bitterness, no cloying notes.
Overall a good beer, it got better with warmth and has a somewhat unique fruitiness without the fruit and without that numbing bitterness.

Intensely hoppy this is an astonishingly enjoyable IPA when drank fresh. Lovely balance on the nose and taste and a chewable mouthfeel. A very nice IPA overall.

Moderate head which leaves rings for lace. The color is solidly amber. Clear.
Caramel aroma followed by a fresh fragrant hop nose.
The base is lightly toasted pale malt. The hop doesn't come in to strong but certainly dominates. The aftertaste brings forward a sweetness I wasn't expecting. It leans rich with an above average carbonation level. Easy to drink and well balanced for an IPA.

I am proud to have Stoudt's B.C. here in Lancaster County, PA & I admittedly take them for granted, not drinking their beers as regularly as I used to, given the plethora of new beers coming available every day. It is a pleasure to have at least a couple as part of the eradication of the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody.
I Pop!ped the cap & began a gentle pour into the awaiting glass. I then experienced a moment of Zen & simply sat, peering at the newly-arrived liquid therein, contemplating my next move. It was to take up the nearby spoon and agitate the beer with an in-glass swirl. This action raised two-plus fingers of rocky, foamy, tawny head which slowly fell back to wisps & left sticky lacing in its wake, affording me a few more moments of quiet contemplation. Dust gathered & settled, the light shifted oh-so-subtly, but nary else transpired. I peered at the Deep-Amber/Light Copper to Copper liquid (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity & reminisced on my visit to Lincoln, NE in 2006 when I originated the term. I raised the glass to my nose and sniffed. I was rewarded with a strong citrus odor, like grapefruits, lemons and oranges with some pine thrown in for good measure and underlain with a biscuitiness. I raised my glass in a toast to my guests, Kenny, Jimmy, Coy & Pops, all perched in a corner by the kitchen door. Tilting the glass to my awaiting maw, I allowed the liquid to sit on my tongue to warm & caress it with its medium embrace. The taste was quite bitter, pithy, if I may, but just the sort of thing to satiate my hops monkey which sits on my back. I was a little surprised by the intense bitterness & dryness of the beer, but I really should not have been, with four varieties of hops & a biscuit malt backbone. In retrospect, I would have been more surprised if it had been sweet. Sometimes, I think too much, other times, I do not think enough. It is a delicate balance. I would love to be able to tell you that this beer struck a balance, but such was not the case. It was made for a self-avowed, self-described hophead, such as myself. It finished with a bitter dryness that left me reaching for a bit of water and wiping the unbidden tears from my eyes. More, please!

DATE: November 20, 2016... OCCASION: unwinding after celebrating Shan's fortieth birthday... GLASSWARE: Howard's Pub pint... a thick, opaque dark amber body sports some effervescence and a murky base.... the head is an off-white pile of cotton that creates coral all along the glass... front-and-center resin, with grapefruit, melon, and fragrant flowery aromas... orange and lemon are secondary suggestions... a light, watered-down mouthfeel makes for a sippable but damp, dank lack of action at the teeth... soft and medium-bodied... resin, equally soft, is the immediate taste, though dank basement and earthy roots come forth as well... orange, lemon, melon--the hops are well-represented... maltiness is subtle and earthy as well... not a bad addition to the Stoudt portfolio, though this really doesn't land with the impact its aroma suggests...

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.
A--Strong golden/orange color. Meaty head that dissipated quickly and left no real lacing.
S--Citrusy hops are prevalent but a malty backbone is suggested as well.
T--Both hops and malts are present. Grapefruit on the finish with caramel also.
M--Nothing astringent from the hops. Feels juicy and carbonated.
O--A very good beer, but not really seeming like an IPA. I'd certainly go back for another.
