This brew pours a pale gold/straw color; it starts cloudy then becomes almost completely clear.

The smell is of straw/hay, peppery hops some malt and some orange.

The mouthfeel is this and watery.

The taste watery with a few peppery tasting hops, a little orange light malt I could not detect anything else.

Perhaps I don't understand this style and perhaps this taste and mouthfeel are normal for this style and hence the hight ratings by some however I have to say that this beer is not for me. Even without understanding the style I still would say that this brew is weak and watery tasting.

Very German indeed. This brew is a clear yellow color Very fresh looking and not overly hoppy in anyway. The brew has the aromas of a pilsner which bums me out. The flavors of a tradional German pilsner are in there too. It's not a bad beer for those who like this style,

A- hazy gold with almost no head
S- Smelled of hay or something similar
t- unusual hay aftertaste, lager in the raw is an understatement.
D-not so much the odd aftertaste is what takes drinkability down for me.

I dont like to slam a beer without a good reason so I wont ,, this just for some reason was not for me. Compared to the german helles lagers I've tried this bears no resembelence.
I'm mystified by the hype ,,will try Victory's version next.

Appearance: A very appropriate golden colored beer with a nice white pillowy head.

Smell: The smell was subtle - faint traces of wheat and yeast. A gentle sweetness that I couldn't place.

Taste: This beer tastes like a lager hidden in a giant glass of water. There are elements of bitterness, yeasts, hops, and even that sweetness I smelled. But its all super watered down.
As of today, I have had 4 of these - so I'm pretty set on my feeling of the taste.

Summary: When you buy a sampler case from a brewery, there is always that one beer that you feel like they are trying to get rid of by putting it in with other (better) beers. This is that lesser beer.

Beer poured bright and clear. Remarkably clear, actually. Yellow in color. Almost no head. Faint malt on the nose, not much hop. Taste is very yeasty. With mild malt and hops on the back palate. I might have gotten a bad bottle. Very yeasty. Mouthfeel is light with moderate carbonation. Very tiny bubbles. Overall, I am disappointed. But it think I might have gotten a bad bottle. I will update this review upon further tastings.

Well, after one sip, my initital thought was: this beer is like eating a bowl of cereal. Totally grainy taste. Medium yellow in color, with a slight head. Smell was fresh, but very reminiscent of a grain mill (I used to live on a farm, it was reminded me of the smell of grain). Taste is also reminiscent of refined grain, with some hop bitterness in the finish. Would not have again. pat

Pours with a white two-fingered head that fades to clumps and leaves a lot lace. Light, clear amber color. Light carbonation and light bodied. Lightly hopped mixed with some malt. Not a lot bitterness, seems watery, some sweetness. Brewed by Frederick Brewing for Stoudt. $1.45 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, Ma.

Appearance is gold and clear, nice. Smell is none eventfull, there is a slight fruity aroma. Mouthfeel is clean and sits well in the mouth. This brew feels good on the tongue. Taste smooth refreshing lager with no bit upfront or in the back. Nothing special, overall, quite uneventful but it is refreshing. Not the best we have had, not fridge worthy.

review from notes. no bottled on date. 12 oz bottle.

A: very clear pale yellow. bright white head composed of fine bubbles. retention is fair as is the lacing.

S: a little sulfur/herbal hop aroma on the nose. light, but pleasant. perhaps a little vegetal as well? smells pretty inviting for the most part.

T: sweet malty flavor. too sweet. may have an oxidized/diacetyl flavor? finish is dry/papery/stale.

M: carb is mellow on a light body. would like some more bubbles.

D: i would take a guess and say something was a little off with this bottle/an old bottle. purchased at a Wegman's in PA not far from the brewery makes this a little disappointing.

pours amazingly cleat..straw in color..no head at all.Hmmmm
Smell is very nondescript...hints of metallic.
Taste is a bit bitter, with a fair amount of sweet malts coming through.
Mouthfeel is ok.
Not super familiar with this style, but this one is just fair.

Thanks to Tom Decapolis for this...
Appears a light gold with a small cap. No lacing.
Smell is of light maltiness with a bit of corn syrup standing out.
Taste is of light malt and corn syrup mixed with honey.
Mouthfeel is slightly sweet with average carbonation.
Drinkability is not bad. A good change of pace from the norm lager.

Poured from a chilled 12 oz. bottle.

App: Gold with a slight orange tint. Some aeration, 1 finger head which disappeared really quickly. No lacing.

Aroma: Barley and wheat with a slight hint of hops.

Taste: Wheat, barley with just a slight tinge of hops.

Mouthfeel: No significant change, no surprises.

Overall: A solid lager from PA. It would be a good introductory beer for someone who has not experienced hops in their beer.

"A nice beer to guzzle after mowing the lawn in August," this Munic-style Helles poured well and surprised our tasters with its crisp drinkability. No one there was a light beer fan, but this brew still did surprisingly well, as most people agreed that, for a light lager, this is about as good as one can get.

Not really sure what possessed me to try this one, but for some reason it was calling me. Maybe the fact that it was just tapped mere moments before I got there, I was in the mood for a super fresh light lager.  Served cold and in a pint glass, this one was consumed on 01/26/2010.
The pour was very light. Golden yellow with loads of carbonation streaming up through the glass which led to a big head of white foam that capped it gracefully. This settled quickly though and left behind a broken, almost rocky crown that barely disguised the liquid underneath. Aroma was light, very light with touches of grain and almost corn. A hit of wheat and light bready notes dominated. I searched for something more but really just did not pick it up. Wish I had. The flavor was more of the same, it was clean and crisp, with a nice level of carbonation but really just seemed to be lacking in power. Nice bready touches, muted grains but that was about it. Just did not have the punch to push it over the edge. Certainly drinkable, but flavor was not doing it for me.
Overall while being fairly solid and well rounded it really does not stand out in the pack. Needed a little bit more follow through and a richer, deeper profile to really peak my interest.

The Gold Lager poured pure golden in color with a big, frizzy, pure white, and remarkably consistent head. The odor is maize-like, can't say I'm thrilled about that. The mouthfeel is crisp and well balanced, carefully taken care of in that regard. Still it is corn-like with a toasted malt offering. It goes on to a tad more bitterness in the finish. Eh, its ok, wouldn't necessarily seek it out again.

Straw very light golden yellow, very clear light in color, a fluffy good creamy and puffy white head, leaving a good thick fluffy and sticky white lacing.Very bubbly, sparkly bubbles rise up like champagne.

A nice clean nose of grains, light barley/malt, super crispness and a refreshing very faint hops and carbonation. What a good lager should be.

Crisp, clean and refreshing mouth, with light notes of grains, light malt. No hop notes to speak of here. This is a lager, after all. Not very exciting, but what lager is?? Speaking of German lagers, this does not quite come close to a good German lager, let alone pilsener.

Overall, a good if just another bland and boring lager. Certainly miles better than the mass-produced BMC swills of the world, but those wanting more flavor and substance should look elsewhere. Victory's Prima Pils is a lot better than this.

Pours a fairly clear gold with a wispy white head.

Cracker bready malt that I associate with the style in the aroma.

Starts out with a crisp cracker taste. Rounds into a little bit of sweetness in the aftertaste. Spicy noble hop presence throughout more in the beginning of the palate. A little tangy finish.

Medium mouthfeel and good carbonation.

Nothing bad about this one, but nothing overly great either.

Last part of Stoudt's variety case I polished off while camping in Copake NY this past weekend. Only tried one of these, as I'm not fond of Goldens, but a Munich Helles got my interest up so I gave a quaff.

A: Poured from a 12oz bottle into a highballer glass. Bright golden that I could see the next campsite through. White foamy head at first with about one finger but falls fast with average lacing but strong retention.

S: My nose caught grain for the most part, obvious spices surrounding and plenty of grain.

T: Very spicy up front, grains coming in second as following th nose. The malts took away some of the sting. Hops and bread were somewhat married together to provide an interesting taste I'm still trying to get my fingers on.

M: Light but sharp at teh same time. Clean finish and high carbonation.

D: I'm still getting used to drinking anything I can see through but respect the style of beer and need to try this on tap before I can say for sure if I truly enjoyed it. Overall, I didn't get much out of this beer.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pilsener glass. Had a pale yellow color and a clear consistency. There was about a half inch of foamy, long-lasting head and solid lacing.

S: Smelled of malt and citrus, maybe some hops.

T: The taste of this didn't float my boat. Had malt, lemon and hops up front, but it seemed slightly thin.

M: An OK amount of carbonation and a dry finish. Medium-bodied.

D: This beer didn't do much for me. It might be the style, but it seemed a little too simple for its own good.

Undated bottle at 40 degrees into standard pint glass
Aroma of light malt
Head small (2 cm), white, creamy, slowly diminishing to 2 mm uneven layer
Lacing poor –few small islands of tiny bubbles – as the beer warms up small partial rings begin
Body very light yellow, clear
Flavor begins slight hop bitterness which fades into light malt; no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate light, watery, lively carbonation

Appearance 3.5, Aroma 3, Flavor 3.25, Palate 3.5, Overall 3.3125. Final weighted score: 3.225
A very inoffensive lager. Pleasing appearance overall, although the lacing could have been better.

Served from a bottle.

A: Pour with a thin white head, cloud, but gold. Nothing outstanding.

S: Smell is kind of weak. Scent of fruitiness, but again, not overpowering.

T: Good beer. You quickly taste some spice with a bit of hops. Not overpowering the taste doesn't last. Flavor is good, needs a little more kick.

M: Good feel. Not overly carbonated and leaves a nice refreshing feel.

Overall, good beer. This would be a great beer on a warm summer night on the deck.

This was poured from a 12 oz bottle into a clean pint glass.
Light straw yellow in color with a bit of head that diminishes quickly.
Taste is lacking. Just a bit of grassy hop and s light malt character.
The mouthfeel is light drinks quickly.
Drinkable for sure, but lacks a bit in the flavor dept. Nothing off or out of place though, just a forgettable lager.

Pale golden color topped by two fingers of white head that hung on for a long time. The head settles to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left on the glass. The only thing limiting the appearance score is the very pale color. Even for a Helles it is pale. I was not so impressed with the aroma and flavor. Almost no hop presence. I want some Noble hops in my Helles. The malt gives a nice semi-dry bready element. Finishes dry, crisp, and clean. Nice body with lively carbonation. Good lager elements. Easy to drink but not really interesting after the first pint.

Pours a cheerful golden clear with a dense but voluminous head. The aroma is negligible, but the flavor is grainy, pale malt with the subtle sting of hops. Perhaps a little bit bready and a little light caramel. The overall effect is crisp with a little kiss of honey Mouthfeel is light refreshing and carbonated.
