Served in a standard shaker pint glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: As served the beer is a rich golden amber color with a ½” thick smooth, finely bubbled off-white head that begins to recede visibly but leaves a bit of lacing, a nice ring around the glass and a thin layer of foam on the liquid. Sipping leaves some scattered lacing and for most of the beer there is a ring of foam and some speckled lacing.

Smell: The aroma is filled with a nice bready malt and an underlying touch of floral hops.

Taste: The flavors are clean and crisp and include lightly sweet and bready malt with a background or undertone of earthy bitterness. The blending is subtle and inviting.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is medium bodied and nicely smooth with on going light carbonation. The finish is on the long side of medium and starts in the sweetness of the malt and gradually transition to a lightly bitter dryness that invites the next sip.

Drinkability and Overall Impression: I have had this beer several times before and, as in the past, I found this one quite drinkable. One sip follows easily from the last and invites the next. I could have more than one of this and find it a nice beer for an evening including dinner and a good conversation with friends. My overall impression is that this is a first rate example of the style and once again Stoudt’s has displayed their mastery of German style beers.

Aroma is pretty light, but what's there is a wet grain, somewhat vegetal aroma. But again, not too much on the nose.

Taste is rather clean as well, starting off a little cereal grainy with the predominant tastes on the body of this beer being a bit of sweet malt with a decent dose of biscuit. In fact, I'd say this beer is more biscuit-y than anything. Somewhat of a surprise for the style, actually.

It's very drinkable and smooth, but also isn't all that remarkable. While the tasting notes surprised me for the style, they still do taste good.

12oz bottle with "Best By 12/29/11" stamped on the bottle.

Pours golden in color as promised. It does have an orange hue to it as well. Good clarity with an ever-so-slight haze. One finger of white foam settled to a thin lace rather quickly. Minimal head retention.

Smell very clean aroma consisting of fresh baked biscuits and grain.

Very light on the palate with some mild hops and bready malts up front. That classic Lager smoothness rounds things out on the back end making for a crisp and refreshing finish.

A good helles overall. This has summer beer written all over it.

Morey's Bottom Line: If you're looking for something on the lighter side, Stoudts Gold might just be your beer. Perfect for summer days like this one (90 degrees)!

Brillantly clear golden straw colored beer.
The white frothy head pours about a finger or so.
Carbonation, I'd say is about average with big slow rising bubbles.

Aroma is light being a lager and all but there is a nice malty backbone here.

Taste is of sweet malts. There are hints of toasted grains like in a vienna style.
Also finishes with a grain or ceral taste.

Medium body with a smooth and slightly dry finish.

I like this beer becaue it's light and refreshing and has a pleasent finish.
A good fall yard work beer I think.

Poured into a shaker pint, arriving in the glass crisp and lightly honeyed with a minimal bone colored head. Not much to speak of lace... but damn that translucent gold forebodes an inviting sense of refreshment.

Smells like raw sugarcane and warming flour.

Clean and zippy up front with a bit of lemony biscuit that rolls through the mouth. Opens and growns soft towards the back of the throat, becoming slightly sugary wheat-like. But turns quickly into a bitterish, bubbling finish in the throat. It's that carbonation that makes the beer... present throughout and playing well with the balanced brew. Lightly bodied and zippy and totally refreshing.

Helles lagers aren't my first thought for a refreshing beer but Stoudt's Gold is a great candidate to change my mind.

Poured from a 12 fl oz bottle into a pint glass. Best before date illegible. Munich style helles.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful yellow golden with a thick white head. Fluffy traces of lacing. What a beer should look like!

Smell: Metallic grassy hop notes of a Euro lager. Smells very rich.

Taste: Outstanding! Very bready and biscuity. Slightly sweet malt. As full flavored a lager as you will ever find.

Mouthfeel: Appropriately thick and satisfying with the slightest biscuit aftertaste. It tastes like liquid bread!

Overall: I have been looking forward to sampling this for awhile and I am not the least bit disappointed. If not for price and availability, this would be my daily drinker!

Poured into a beer mug. It had a hazy yellow color with a nice size head. It smelled of honey, grain, malt. It tasted of slight wheat, honey, and a lemon citrus finish. It was a light beer, definitely refreshing. Overall all I have to say is yikes, BA members, your palate is really bad including the bros. there is nothing German about this beer, there is nothing "Helles Lager" stylish about this beer. Spicy hop Bitterness is no wheres to be found.

Pours a pale golden color with a good amount of fluffy white head with decent retention.

The scent is toasted grains and some notes of spice

The taste is of toasted malts, herbal hop presence and some spice.

Light bodied, very crisp and kind of dry, high carbonation.

This was a pretty good lager, good balanced flavor, but not really anything that made it stand out for me.

Bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: A deep rich gold color that developed a decent head. The head lingered for quite a while and left minimal lacing.

S: Malty sweetness with a slight fruit/floral aroma.

T: The taste is malty sweetness that is well balanced by the hops. There is a slight fruity taste that develops right as you swallow and a wonderful light bitter aftertaste ensues.

M: The MF is nice on this one. Very clean and crisp and refreshing. It isn't too watery either.

O: A damn fine lager. Stoudt's is a brewery worth checking out.

Solid Hellas, and there aren't too many of those around.

pours yellow/gold(go figure) hue... whispy light head and it doesn't last long, but has some lacing...

smell is rosey, flowery, with lemon.

similar in taste with a little earthy grain and a near dortmunder bitter bite after the sweet start. Tart. Very tasty. Good beer!

think I've found my new everyday summer brew... this beer is a poundable, flavorful little lighter lager with superb taste and overall drinkability...

very solid brew. ONE OF THE BEST segue or summer beers your likely to come across,.. buy with confidence. best somewhat accessible helles east of the mississippi river? it may be.

Pours a clear golden straw color.

It is slightly sweet with mostly husky grain and pale malt, some breadiness, and hints of lemon and sulfur. Very clean and straightforward. Beauty in simplicity.

It is light and bubbly. Very crisp with clean bready grain that transitions to a hint of lemon from the hops then a quick, snappy slightly bitter and earthy finish. Definitely Noble hops if I’ve ever tasted ‘em.

Very easy drinker, clean, simple and enjoyable.

This was the perfect beer to sit down with on this hot, muggy evening after working a stressful 12 hour shift. I owe my thanks to LSUPT for this one. Once again, supplying me with some great brews. Cheers Alex!

Pours a very nice looking pale yellow, that is quite see through. Carbonation races to the top to meet the remains of the 1" white head sits. Minor lacing on the edges of my Half Acre pint glass.

Smells of toasted bread, malts, spices, subtle citrus, vanilla, and honey.

Taste is a very nice mash of everything I smelt. I like how the spices flow into the semi sweet vanilla/honey finish. Slight German hops are noticeable along with some grass. Delicious.

The mouthfeel is outstanding. Perfect for the style. Medium bodied with a slight creamy finish. For some reason its making me crave something salty. I might indulge in some baked Jalapeno chips for the remainder of this treat.

Very glad I got to try this. Perfect for the summer days, but I could definitely see myself grabbing one of these at any time of the year. A beer that could easily be a staple in my fridge (if it were available in my area).

A go to beer for me. Pours lager gold with a good head with a modest pour. The color is what a golden beer should be, a bar setter. Smells grainy but smell does not do this beer justice. Now the taste, by the way I like this very cold, exceptional as rated. I can't believe this is brewed in Penn tastes better than most Germans I've had. This thing is pure and delicious with sweet bread alittle pepper and some mild bavarian bitterness on the finish. Carbonated well and sessionable. I think it loses its sweetness as it warms but I usually don't allow that to happen. Simple and a great American tribute.

Poured a beautiful golden color that was crystal clear and topped with an attractive white head. Mouth feel is good, very smooth. Aroma is not real prominent but nice. Taste is slightly sweet and of toasted malt. This is one easy-drinking beer and one I will definitely buy again and again. Drinkability is about as high as it gets. Excellent beer.

Poured into a pint glass from bottle.

I really liked this beer. Stoudt's being a new brewery to enter Louisiana recently, I was excited to try this. A very smooth beer with good carbonation. At times I felt like there was a slight butter taste to the beer. I could easily drink this beer all day. The rest of Stoudt's lineup will definitely be on my list when shopping around.

A: Pours a perfectly clear golden/straw/orange color. A pillowing two finger white head rises with excellent retention. Rings of lace are left behind.
S: Very subtle, but excellent. Toasted malts, bread, biscuit, and cereal. Just a touch of honey and light vanilla sweetness even. Fresh cut grass, and a lingering bitterness that is just perfect.
T: Follows the nose. Toasted malts, bread, biscuit. Husky grains. A light sweetness. Grassy and floral hops lingering. Just excellent.
M/D: A light body that is perfectly crisp. So clean, bone dry, and smooth at the same time. Pretty much as easy drinking as it gets. All day with this one.

Hands down one of my favorite lagers from the first bottle. I love this. Stoudt's nailed the style. In fact I don't know of a better American made version. Something I would highly recommend.

Pours a clear golden hue into a pilsener glass. A significant three finger head.

The aroma is of a very slight hop presence with a nice bread like presence.

The taste is great. A slight bready/ malt presence, with a mild hop taste. Crisp Clean, and highly drinkable. A really great example of what a lager can be. I

12oz bottle with no bottled on or freshness date, poured into Hair of the Dog tulip, reviewed on 6/9/11.

A: Pours a slightly hazy straw color with white head that leaves a bit of lacing around glass.

S: Pale malts, honey, some yeast and faint grassy hops.

T: Starts out with honey and sweet malt followed by a wave of bitterness which mellows out revealing some grassy and herbal hops, yeast with a lingering taste of more honey.

M: Light and crisp with moderate carbonation and a dry finish.

O: Easy drinking, crisp and refreshing summertime beer.

A: Poured a nice, clear amber/golden color. Two fingers of perfect, white head. Good retention and moderate lacing.

S: A little odd for a lager, a mix of citrus, pepper, grains and grass. I was expecting German hop smell.

T: Lightly tastes of citrus and spice, then came the German hops I was expecting in the smell.

M: Thin, light refreshing beer, without an obnoxious note in a glassful. Smooth and crisp.

O: This is a prime example of the style. If you need in-your-face hops and boldness all the way around, skip it. If you want a great craft lager, good choice.

Pours a brilliant orange-tinted gold with a very small white head. Minimal retention and lace.

Nose is sweet and creamy, with pear and mild toasty malt aromas and touches of lemon and corn. A bit of spice. Delicate but alluring.

The palate is medium bodied, creamy and very delicious. More of those toasty malt and bright flavors, and a very smooth and slightly sweet finish. Supremely drinkable.

ST: 12oz poured into a flute.

A: Clear, bright gold with a thick white head that quickly settles, Stoudt's Gold Lager has beautiful steady large bubbles that continuously smack the roof of the beer.

S: Most of the aroma is that of the hops. Slightly spicy with citrus, there is also a bit of honey.

T: The beer starts with nice crisp citrus and follows through with spice. Towards the finish the malt subdues some of the crispness and a bit of honey and malt thickness take over, though the spice is still present.

M: On the lighter side, it is creamier towards the finish but still finishes dry.

O: With all the impressive and unique beers that exist in the world of mircobrews today, the classic types are often ignored or sub par. Every brewery, it seems, has a pale ale or lager because it is part of the line up (it is tradition). My point? That Stoudt's Golden Lager shows how excellent the classic types can be. Sure, it is amazing to have a rare beer aged in oak for two years with chocolate or roasted Hawaiian coffee beans before being blended with other casks and then, finally, reaching the shelf in very limited quantities (yes, I used a bit of hyperbole). After all, I am one of those people trying to buy that interesting beer. However, it is nice to buy something that reminds you that beer does not have to be brewed in unique (and sometimes unnecessary) ways for it to be good. We are fortunate to live in a world of beer were we have both.

12 oz bottle with freshness date, poured into SA Perfect Pint

A - Perfectly clear, medium-gold pour with about an inch of white head. While retention settles to the edges and a bit of a skim, it leaves a loose lace.

S - Toasted grain on the nose with a healthy dose of peppery, spicy hops.

T&M - True to the interpretation of the name, as this has a very "bright" and clean taste with a crisp feel. Toasted malt with hints of grain, and the spicy hops from the nose come through beautifully. Nice balance is found in the malt and hop ratio here.

O - This pretty much hits the nail on the head for the style. It's "simple", but so well done as to not disappoint or leave me wanting. A finely crafted brew.

Very German indeed. This brew is a clear yellow color Very fresh looking and not overly hoppy in anyway. The brew has the aromas of a pilsner which bums me out. The flavors of a tradional German pilsner are in there too. It's not a bad beer for those who like this style,
