12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: A golden, creamy-looking Hefeweizen, just the way I like it. More points would've been given for longer-lasting retention and lacing, but the look otherwise, to me, is right on.

Smell: Lighter banana and bubblegum and sweeter wheat malt flavors. Solid and balanced, but way too subdued for me.

Taste: Same with the aroma: it's there, but way too subdued. Bigger bubblegum, it seems, but it lacks the creaminess and the banana cream that I like so much in my choice of Hefe flavors. Finish is good and balanced, but doesn't linger as much as I'd like.

Mouthfeel: Nice carbonation, but again lacking creaminess that it should have.

Drinkability: Like a lot of domestic Hefes, this one doesn't stand up to the real Bavarian style. That said, it would be easy to put down a few of these, though it's on the lighter side, even though much of the classic flavors are there. They just don't take on the dominance they should.

Pours a opaque straw color with about a half finger of head. The nose has a hint of wheat but the wheat really comes out in the flavor. This offering is hearty for the style.

This is an above average hefe.

Look: It pours a hazy gold with a full white head that produces a fair amount of lacing.

Smell: It has aromas of wheat, banana, and spice.

Taste: It has flavors of wheat, clove, banana, spice, and a hint of lemon.

Feel: It has a light feel to it with low bitterness.

Overall this is a refreshing, easy drinking seasonal beer.

On tap at the brewery. Looks like a typical hazy, straw colored hefe, thin off white head. Smells like banana, clove, and yeast, also typical for the style. Same flavors of banana, clove, and yeast in the taste, yet again typical for the style. Noticing a trend? It's a serviceable hefe but nothing remarkable and overall a little weak; I would have liked to see the smell and flavor punched up a notch. Feel is just okay, moderate carbonation with a medium body.

On draft at Cantina Los Caballitos in South Philly. Very cloudy amber orange draft with small head. Aroma of ripe bananas and yeast. Taste is yeasty rich wheat with a small banana finish and very faint cloves, as I like it. Not surprisingly, Stoudts brews an authentic Bavarian Hefeweizen.
