12 ounce bottle - $2.49 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Illegible, smudged dating on the neck of the bottle, unfortunately.

Appearance: Pours a lightly clouded, pale gold body with a small-sized, short-lived, white head.

Smell: Very gently toasted golden wheat nose with smooth banana notes and spicy clove accents. A little lemon showing moments later.

Taste: Malty wheat with some crunchy toastiness to it, perhaps a low touch of grain. Lightly honeyish quality and not overtly sweet. Faint, faded lemon fruitiness, then, the near-ripe bananas followed by spicy notes from the clove phenols and German hops. Drying finish pointed by the crispish carbonation.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Passably refreshing and sufficiently representative for an American-born hefe.

On tap at World of Beer Raleigh. Served in a tulip.

A - bright yellow with no head

S - banana, faint wheat

T - faint clove, banana, wheat

M - light to medium bodied, smooth, well carbonated

This is a pretty standard Americanized Hefeweizen. The yeast brings out the traditional banana and clove notes but they aren't very bold and forward. This is an easy to drink, light, summer beer. I probably won't have it again, but I'm glad I tried it once.

12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip. Thanks to vonschplieffen for letting me take one out of his sixpack to review.

A: After pouring 3/4 of the bottle, swirling the rest, and then dumping in the remainder I'm greeted by a pale yellow-orange body that is only slightly hazy. A finger of fine, creamy off-white head sits on top, receding slowly and leaving some spotty lace. It's all right, but nothing special for the style.

S: Clean and piquant, with clove absolutely dominating everything else. Some grain and some banana are present as well, but this is all about the bright, fresh, spicy clove. I'm a fan.

T: More balanced and complex here: tangy wheat up front, spicy clove in the middle, and some banana on the aftertaste following a clean, lightly spicy finish. It's a bit heavier than the nose, with more malt presence and less zesty yeast, but still extremely pleasant.

M: Highly effervescent, somewhat prickly. Very light-bodied. An odd accompaniment to the rather powerful flavors, but quite refreshing.

O: I really enjoyed this one; it tasted like an authentic German Hefeweizen, which is a high compliment to an American brewery.

Cheers!

Had on tap at the Pickled Pig

A: Pours a hazy yellow with a nice white head, one finger in height. Decent retention, but minimal lacing.

S: Banana, citrus and grassy ops with a little bit of pepper and cloves.

T: The taste begins with some banana, wheat, and grassy hops. Underneath there is some bubblegum flavor and more spice, mostly cloves.

M: Medium bodied with lively/active carbonation.

O: A decent hefe that I would drink again, but would probably reach for something else.

review on 6.27.12. from notes. no bottled on date. 12 oz bottle.

A: very hazy pale orange color. head is bright white, but the retention and lacing are a little weak.

S: major banana notes, minor clove, and even more minor nutmeg. minor hints of darker sugars. rather inviting.

T: spicy, yeasty, sweet fruits. green apples and bananas. white pepper. lingering fruit then quickly dries.

M: the carb gives the impression of fullness while still being on the lighter side.

D: pretty solid wheat offering. fuirty, tons of banana both on the nose and in the drink. classic.

Pouring and swirling into a Penn Weizen glass.

Pours remarkably light in color. Good bit of a haze to a straw-yellow brew. Firm, foamy crown of white head. A pale, but classic, look.

Firm-fleshed banana, lemon, understated clove, and bubblegum in the aroma. Bready wheat grains push through after the swirl, along with a kiss of floral hopping.

Slightly tart banana forward with a hint of citric acidity. Bready grains are here, but thinner than expected. A lot of yeasty/estery flavor. Sweet dried clove is dozing off in the backseat. Mild tobacco (possibly from the hops), lemon zest, and orange. Grainy finish that's not far from sweet. Flutters of bitterness ebb and flow around the flavor profile.

Medium body with some air, but not too much. Feels like sweet tea.

This beer actually pairs pretty well with a cigarette, believe it or not. Not entirely sure what kind of profile Stoudts wanted to build around this beer, but it doesn't stand out in any one department. It has balance and drinkability, which is plus. Nice aroma, but the esters are fairly in-check once you start to imbibe.

A - Not a bad looking Hefeweizen it has a nice golden color with plenty of haze and a 1/2 an inch of sticky white head.

S - Lemon zest, crisp fruity yeasts and a touch of coriander for spice.

T - Well it has a clean yeast taste, mild lemon and bubblegum with a finish of zesty coriander spice. In other words it's good.

M - Light to medium easy to sip on.

Overall I missed this offering last year and was glad to try this summer treat. Worth picking up for the style.

A: half finger head with nice lacing on a murky pale golden body.

S: clove, vanilla, pineapple/banana citrus and wheat.

T: clove, lemon custard, wheat, slight musty grains and peppery zest.

M: light body and very high carbonation, definitely too much. crisp.

Overall: not too bad. This isnt a genre which will dazzle you no matter how good the beer is but this is definitly one of the better ones out there.

A - Pours with one and a half fingers of white foam on top of a hazy, golden body. The foam settles at a moderate pace and leaves nice lace.

S - An aroma of clove, spicy wheat, vanilla and some light sulfur.

T - Thick, creamy wheat up front with a touch of acidity. Coriander, clove, and pepper in the middle with more wheat, spicy hops, and a touch of vanilla in the finish.

M - A thick, almost chewy body, moderately high carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - Not bad, the thick mouthfeel is quite nice and while the yeast character is not the best it is still quite drinkable.

12oz. bottle poured into a Hefe glass.

A- a straw yellow/gold, with a finger of puffy white head.

S- very yeasty, with spices, cloves, and banana.

T- for the abundance of smell, the taste is fairly muted. Some wheat, spices, and a hint of citrus. The yeasty-ness just isn't as forward as I would like.

S- Very smooth on the palette, a little more carbonation than most. A little drying on the finish.

O- An overall middle of the road Hefe.

Poured into a Samuel Smith commemorative glass. No freshness date.

A- Pours a hazy straw color with a 1/2 inch head that retains well before becoming an 1/8 inch of head and displays thick bunches of fluffy lacing.

S- Yeasty with a bit of barnyard funk plus notes of citrus and banana.

T- Sweet rush of vibrant banana and yeast. The citrus element takes a back seat to the main attraction of wheat and spices. A tiny tinge of alcohol is present but doesn't get in the way of enjoyment. Bitterness is at a minimum. Notes of vanilla and bubble gum.

M- Soft, rich and incredibly smooth. Medium-high carbonation brings life to the body. Ever-so-slightly tart.

O- Probably my favorite Hefeweizen thus far. I always look forward to it coming out every year.

Notes from 4/6/12

Cloudy, orange-amber gold body with a slim head that doesn't stick around. A thin, white, soapy rim remains.

Bright and cool clove & banana aroma. Warm esters. Floral. Pleasant in the nose.

Deliciously crisp up front with fruity yeast, over-ripe banana and wheat bread. Wood-like tone far in the back end.

This brew throws long and dry on the taste buds. What I discern to be some booze lingers in a friendly way. Exceptional!

Notes: quite possibly the tastiest hefeweizen I've had to date. I threw this down with pleasure in no time.
