Stoudt's- Munich Dark Lager

A- Deep clear amber brown with a small filmy head. No lacing.
S- sweet brown sugar malt with a touch of molasses.
T- Sweet brown sugar, molasses, caro syrup. Slight touch of coke syrup.
M- Thick and very sweet. Big sugary malt dominates.

Overall- A bit too sweet for me. A bit like coke syrup?!

Transcribed from undated notes.

This was presented with a finger of light-brown head with decent retention. Color was a deep, dark-brown with ruby highlights. Nose was lightly chocolaty. Mouthfeel was medium with a smoky, chocolaty taste on the tongue. Finish had a dry, smoky, chocolaty quality. Love lager!

On-tap at Liberty St. Tavern. According to Brett Kintzer, the Stoudts head brewer, this is a very limited brew and has 22 IBU's. Appears a very dark brown with a short tan head. The beer is creamy with a hint of schwarzbier-like, dry roasted malt. It's a pleasure to drink with toasty brown malts and a tinge of cocoa and caramel liquor. Certainly worth a try if you find it.

I've been drinking this every time I visit my local watering hole, as I know it's been brewed in a very limited quantity and I want to take advantage of it while it lasts.

In short, this might be the best example of a Munich Dunkel I've ever had: Lovely brown color with a nice tan head; incredible roasty-malt flavors with hints of cocoa and nuts... All in all, a great beer and one of the best products Stoudt's has made.

Highly recommended.
